MONITOR for GEM v1.00 John Elliott, 4 February 2001
==============================================================================

  MONITOR is a desk accessory for use on Compaq laptops. It is used to switch
between the internal and external monitors. It has been tested on a Compaq
SLT286 under FreeGEM and ViewMAX/2.

Installing
==========

  To use MONITOR, copy MONITOR.ACC to your GEM system directory with the
other .ACCs. For GEM/1 and GEM/2, this is \GEMBOOT; for GEM/3 and FreeGEM,
this is \GEMAPPS\GEMSYS; and for ViewMAX, it is your DRDOS directory.

In use
======

  Once MONITOR is installed, restart GEM (or ViewMAX). Your Desk Accessories
menu (usually titled "Desk", "Desktop" or "ViewMAX") should contain a line
reading "Monitor". When you select this, the main screen will appear:

         +--------------------------------------------------------+
Active monitor: Internal [ Internal ]
Master mode:      LCD
ASIC type:        0x00                    [ External ]
Internal monitor: 8-level mono LCD VGA
External monitor: VGC colour [ Cancel ]
         +--------------------------------------------------------+

  To switch between monitors, simply click "Internal" or "External". Press
"Cancel" to close the monitor display. The diagnostic information on the
left-hand side of the screen is just for fun.

Errors
======

  The SLT286 will only allow an external monitor to be selected if it
detected one when it was switched on. If you see the message:

         +----------------------------------------------------+
External monitor not found. [ Cancel ]
         +----------------------------------------------------+

then the probable reason is that there's no monitor plugged in, or that it
was plugged in after the PC was switched on.

  If you try to use MONITOR a on computer without the Compaq video BIOS
extensions, you will see the message:

         +----------------------------------------------------+
No Compaq video adaptor found. [ Cancel ]
         +----------------------------------------------------+
