NEWDRV2                                             John Elliott, 22 July 2012
==============================================================================

  NEWDRV2 is an attempt to do NEWDRV (PCW Plus issue 76) properly, so that it
actually works.

  What NEWDRV did was add an extra virtual drive to the system, sharing the
same physical unit as drive A:. However, it did not allocate memory for the
additional data structures the extra drive would require; as a result, disc
operations didn't work properly, particularly when copying from the new
drive to A: or vice versa.

  NEWDRV2 uses (or misuses) the device driver system in later versions of PCW
and Spectrum +3 CP/M to add the extra drive, and actually stand a chance of
working properly. To use it, copy NEWDRV2.FID to your boot floppy
(NEWDRV23.FID for the Spectrum +3). When it boots, it will tell you the
extra drive letter it allocated, and the "Drive is A:" message will appear on
the status line whether or not you have two physical floppy drives. To
allocate a third drive, make a second copy of NEWDRV2 (say as NEWDRV2A.FID)
and put that on the boot floppy as well.

  Supported versions of CP/M are 1.9 / 2.9 and later. Version 1.7H may also
work, but the "Drive is A:" message will not appear on the status line.
