The RPM file will build and install the IPMI Automatic Server Restart (ASR) software application. 1.2 Limitations - 3rd party IPMI drivers or ASR software will interfere with the operation of this ASR software package. 1.3 Enhancements - none 1.4. Level of Recommendations and Prerequisites for the update: - none 1.5 Dependencies: - This RPM will build a binary RPM of the ASR application on specific Intel-based IBM servers that contain an IPMI-compliant Baseboard Management Controller (BMC). Please consult IBM's support website below to determine if this ASR software is supported on your server. You will also find a listing of supported operating systems on this same website. - Before installing this RPM, please make sure your server has the correct IPMI device driver installed and the correct IBM Mapping Layer Software installed before attempting to install this ASR package. Please consult IBM's support website below to determine which IPMI driver and Mapping Layer software to install on your server. - The system that the source rpm file is to be run on must have Linux development/build capability and be properly configured for your hardware. 2.0 Installation and setup instructions ______________________________________ 2.1 Installing this rpm _________________________ If this is an upgrade to an existing version of the ASR application, the previously installed ASR applicaiton must be removed. See section 2.3 below. Do not try to upgrade the rpm with the upgrade (-U) switch. To install the rpm issue the following commands: rpmbuild --rebuild ibmipmiasr-1.xx-2.src.rpm cd /usr/src/[PACKAGE DIR]/RPMS/[ARCH] rpm -ivh ibmsp6a-1.xx-2.[ARCH].rpm 2.2 Un-installing the ibmipmiasr RPM _____________________________________ Depending upon your system's configuration, you may see messages about missing files when running the "rpm -e" commands. You may safely ignore those messages. Type the following commands at a shell prompt to remove the old source and binaries. The RPM utility will unload the asr software and remove all ibmasm-related files from your system. rpm -e ibmipmiasr 2.3 Utility Programs ______________________ There are two useful utility programs installed with this RPM. You must have root privileges to run these utilities. ibmipmiasrup is a small script that loads ibmasm (the service processor daemon). ibmipmiasrdown unloads the modules. These modules will not load if you do not have the proper IPMI device driver and the correct IBM Mapping Layer Software installed. 3.0 Web information and support phone number _________________________________________ 3.1 IBM Support Web Site: http://www.ibm.com/support/.
