It will not affect any device drivers. 1.2 Limitations If there is an error in loading the IBM Remote Supervisor Adapter II software, retry loading the software by repeating the instructions in section 2.0. 1.3 Enhancements - none 1.4. Level of Recommendations and Prerequisites for the update: - The IBM Remote Supervisor Adapter II requires a new Linux Daemon for proper operation. For 64 bit Linux, the correct daemon is IBM Remote Supervisor Adapter II USB Daemon for Linux x86 64 bit, version 1.04 or newer. For 32 bit Linux, the correct daemon is IBM Remote Supervisor Adapter II USB Daemon for Linux - Servers , version 1.20 or newer. - Multi-lun support is needed in order to mount more then one remote drive simultaneously. The linux kernel 2.4.20 and later have the appropriate multi-lun support, however this support needs to be enabled at kernel build time. Currently, only the SLES 8.0 SP3 distribution has multi-Lun support available and enabled. RedHat AS 3.0 has a 2.4.21 kernel, but does not have multi-lun support enabled by default. 1.5 Dependencies: - none 2.0 Installation and setup instructions To install this update, perform the following steps: a). Open a Web browser. In the address or URL field, type the IP address or host name of the Remote Supervisor Adapter II to which you want to connect. The Enter Network Password window opens. Note: The Remote Supervisor Adapter II defaults to DHCP. If a DHCP host is unavailable, the Remote Supervisor Adapter II assigns a static IP address of 192.168.70.125. b). Type your user name and password in the Enter Network Password window. If you are using the IBM Remote Supervisor Adapter II for the first time, you can obtain your user name and password from your system administrator. All login attempts are documented in the event log. A welcome page opens in your browser. Note: The Remote Supervisor Adapter II is set initially with a user name of USERID and password of PASSW0RD (with a zero, not an O). This user has read/write access. Change this default password during your initial configuration for enhanced security. c). Select a timeout value, in minutes, in the field provided. If your browser is inactive for that number of minutes, the Remote Supervisor Adapter II logs you off the Web interface. d). Click Continue to start the session. The browser opens the System Health page, which gives you a quick view of the system status. e). In the navigation frame, click Firmware Update under Tasks, then click Browse. f). Navigate to the PKT file you want to update. Note: There are two packet files that can be updated: PAETBRUS.PKT PAETMNUS.PKT Repeat steps e through k for each packet. The packets should be flashed in the order listed above. g). Click Open. The file (including the full path) appears in the box beside Browse. h). To begin the update process, click Update. A progress indicator opens as the file is transferred to temporary storage on the Remote Supervisor Adapter II. A confirmation page opens when the file transfer is completed. i). Verify that the PKT file shown on the Confirm Firmware Update page is what you intend to update. If not, click the Cancel button. j). To complete the update process, click Continue. A progress indicator opens as the firmware on the Remote Supervisor Adapter II is flashed. A confirmation page opens to verify that the update was successful. k). Repeat steps e through k for each packet. l). After receiving a confirmation that the update process is complete, click the option "Restart ASM" and click the Restart button. Click OK to confirm that you want to restart the Remote Supervisor Adapter II. NOTE: Restarting the Remote Supervisor Adapter II will disconnect your current session. m). Click OK to close the current browser window. n). To log into the Remote Supervisor Adapter II again, open your browser and follow the regular login process. Note: To cancel this process at any point, click Cancel. 3.0 Configuration information The Remote Supervisor Adapter II can be configured using the web browser interface.
