Note: Before using this information and the product it supports, read the general information in "Notices and trademarks” in this document. 1.0 Overview This file is intended for server administrators responsible for upgrading the firmware for the IBM Server Connectivity Module for IBM BladeCenter. 1.2 Limitations For a summary of features, supplemental information and known issues associated with this release, please refer to the "Server Connectivity Module for IBM BladeCenter Release Notes", available via web sites indicated in section 5.0 Web information and support phone numbers. 1.3 Level recommendation and prerequisites for the update None. 1.4 Dependencies The Advanced Management Module code level BPET15D is required. 2.0 Installation and setup instructions The Server Connectivity Module firmware is comprised of two (2) code images. The boot code and a switch operating system. The module ships with this firmware pre-installed. However, new versions of the firmware are periodically released and can be used to update the features and function of the module. 2.1 Step by step instructions for this installation The I/O module software is upgraded through a TFTP server application. Typically, this software runs as an application under your operating system. Make sure that this software is installed on your server; then, download the software images from the IBM support Web site (http://www.ibm.com/support/) into a directory on your TFTP server. Enable the TFTP server and set its default directory to the one where the image is located. 1. Access and log on to the management module as described in the Management Module User’s Guide for your BladeCenter unit type. The login window opens. If you do not have an assigned user ID and initial password, type the default user ID (USERID) in the User ID field and the default password (PASSW0RD) in the Password field (where the sixth character is the number zero, not the letter O) and click OK. Type n when asked if you want to run setup. The main page in the management-module interface opens. Note: The User ID and Password fields are case-sensitive. Enter your information in uppercase letters only (for example, ABCDE). 2. Select Configuration from the I/O Module Tasks menu on the left side of the BladeCenter Management Module window. The I/O Module Tasks window opens. 3. Click Advanced Configuration under the applicable bay information in the BladeCenter Management Module window. 4. Click Start Telnet Session in the following window. If you do not have an assigned user ID and initial password, type the default user ID (USERID) in the User ID field and the default password (PASSW0RD) in the Password field (where the sixth character is the number zero, not the letter O) and press Enter. 5. Using the CLI, type the following command and press Enter: /boot/gtimg imageX TADDR zzzzz (where imageX is the image to be installed, TADDR is the target address of the TFTP server, and zzzzz is the operating-system image file name, for example, ibm_fw_bcio_wmy01010_anyos_anycpu.img). 6. Using the CLI, type the following command and press Enter: /boot/gtimg boot TADDR yyyyy (where TADDR is the target address of the TFTP server, and yyyyy is the boot image file name, for example, ibm_bt_bcio_wmy01011_anyos_anycpu.img). 7. Using the CLI, type the following command and press Enter: /boot/image imageX (where imageX is the image to be copied from the image that was just loaded. 8. Reset and restart the I/O module by completing the following steps: a. Select Admin/Power/Restart from the I/O Module Tasks menu on the left side of the BladeCenter Management Module window. b. Select the I/O module bay on which the software update was just installed. c. From the I/O Module Tasks window, select Power Off Module(s). d. Click OK. e. Select the I/O module bay on which the software update was just installed. f. Click Power On Module(s). g. Click OK. h.
