1.0  Overview
________________________



        1.1     This utility will update the IBM ServeRAID 8i BIOS and Firmware only.  It will not affect any device drivers.  
        
        1.2     Limitations

                - None

        1.3     Problem(s) fixed:
                - Fixed a problem causing system hangs, system I/O errors and "SCSI BUS Hang" errors when operating under heavy disk I/O loads.

        1.4.    Level of Recommendations and Prerequisites for the update: 

                - none

        1.5     Dependencies
                - Two blank diskettes.
		- IBM ServeRAID User's Reference (SRAID.PDF) in the /BOOKS directory on the "IBM ServeRAID Support" CD.
	
	1.6	Diskettes
		ibm_fw1_aacraid_8264_anyos_anycpu.exe and ibm_fw2_aacr aid_8264_anyos_anycpu.exe
		- Compression of 8i_fw1.img and 8i_fw2.img into an exe format
   
		8i_fw1.img Image for creating the "IBM ServeRAID BIOS  
                           and Firmware Update (1 of 2)" diskette for  
                           the ServeRAID-8i controller
    
   		8i_fw2.img Image for creating the "IBM ServeRAID BIOS  
                           and Firmware Update (2 of 2)" diskette for  
                           the ServeRAID-8i controller   


2.0  Installation and setup instructions

       This utility will update the IBM ServeRAID 8i BIOS and Firmware

       2.1   Performing the code update (Bootable Diskettes)
       _______________________________________
       
             - To create a diskette, refer to the IBM ServeRAID Installation
               Guide (INSTALL.PDF) or the IBM ServeRAID User's Reference  
               (SRAID.PDF) in the /BOOKS directory on the "IBM ServeRAID Support" CD.
	     - After making the diskette images insert diskette #1 into the floppy drive
               and power on the system to boot to the update program.
	     - Follow the instructions of the update program.
	     - Insert diskette #2 when instructed to do so.
	     - Once the update completes a reboot of the system will be required for the changes to take effect.

	     - Insert diskette #2 when instructed to do so.
