You need Adobe Acrobat Reader or Xpdf to view it. Check the IBM Support Web site regularly for updated IBM Director documentation and readme files. 3.0 INSTALLATION ----------------- The installation instructions are provided in the "IBM Director 5.10 Upward Integration Modules Installation Guide." 4.0 KNOWN PROBLEMS AND WORKAROUNDS ----------------------------------- See the "IBM Director 5.10 Upward Integration Modules Installation Guide" for any additional limitations. o After installation of IBM Director UIM for HP OpenView, HP OpenView might not display the interface of IBM Director Agent nodes. Complete the following steps to add the interfaces to the IBM Director Agent nodes: 1. On the HP OpenView server, from a command prompt, type the following command and press Enter: ovstop netmon 2. From a command prompt, type the following command and press Enter: ovtopofix -chn 3. From a command prompt, type the following command and press Enter: ovtopofix -a 4. From a command prompt, type the following command and press Enter: ovstart netmon o If you compile the MIBs using the HP OpenView MIB compiler, you must use the MIBs that are provided in IBM Director 5.10. o (Managed systems running Linux(R) only) You must install and configure net-snmp5.0.9 for HP OpenView for discovery, inventory, and event notification of the managed system. For more information, see the "IBM Director 4.20 or higher Installation and Configuration Guide". o The IBM Director UIM for HP OpenView version 5.10 is required for support of IBM Director Agent version 4.21 or later. o Creating a certificate Before you can save IBM Director inventory data to the SQL Server database that is used by OpenView, you must create a certificate. The UIM uses the certificate to authenticate communication. To create a certificate in OpenView, complete the following steps: 1. From the OpenView menu bar, click "Tools" -> "Director Agent" -> "Create Certificate." The Client Authentication window opens. 2. In the "Username" field, type a valid username. 3. In the "Password" field, type the password. 4. In the "Re-Type Password" field, retype the password. 5. Click "OK". After the certificate is created, you can save the IBM Director inventory to the database. o SSL Incompatibility With IBM Director Agent versions 3.1 and 4.1 In IBM Director 4.21, security has been improved in the HP OpenView UIM through the use of SSL technology, which is supported by IBM Director Agent version 4.2 or later. SSL technology has been implemented in the UIM design for retrieving inventory from systems that are running IBM Director Agent. When the HP OpenView server tries to retrieve IBM Director Agent inventory, the server checks for a certificate on the managed system. o If a certificate is present, the inventory function is performed. o If a certificate is not present, you are prompted for a username and password. If username and password are valid, a certificate is created on the managed system and the inventory function is performed. Once a certificate is created, you are not prompted for the username and password again. SSL technology is not supported on IBM Director Agent versions 3.1 and 4.1. On these versions, the UIM cannot create a certificate, so it will prompt for a username and password every time the user retrieves inventory. If you use these versions of IBM Director Agent and want to avoid this issue, do not implement IBM Director 4.21. 5.0 CORRECTIONS TO THE DOCUMENTATION ------------------------------------- None. 6.0 SUPPORT WEB SITES ---------------------- The following Web pages provide resources for understanding, using, and troubleshooting IBM Director and other systems-management tools.
