Only PN 73P6112 is supported by this firmware download at this time. 2.0 CHANGE HISTORY ------------------ 10/07/2004 - FCode version 1.04 being released to address problem when Boot devices not showing up. 10/19/2004 - FCode version 1.05 released to address version level not showing up correctly in the firmware header information. This condition could lead an AIX customer to see an FCode version level of 1.03 even after version 1.04 is loaded. Version 1.05 corrects this condition and AIX customers will see version level 1.05 after the update occurs. 05/10/2005 - FCode version 1.06 being released to fix problem of Boot devices not showing up under certain configurations. Also, RISC code level is being updated from 3.03.01 to 3.03.14 to address aborted command problem found during Tape error inject testing, as well as picking up various other fixes found by other customers. 3.0 Installation and Setup Instructions (Please provide if product requires this information) ----------------------------------------- 3.1 Step by step instructions for this code update There are two methods for downloading firmware to the adapter: either by running the diagnostics service aid from a system installed with AIX or by using the Service Diagnostics CD. Note that LINUX customers must download the firmware using the Service Diagnostics CD. The CD iso image is available from IBM at the following website: http://techsupport.services.ibm.com/server/mdownload. Once the Service Diagnostics CD is installed, the firmware file for the Fibre Channel adapter must be burned onto a CD before the file can be downloaded to the adapter. The firmware file can be obtained at the following website: http://www-3.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-54949 The following steps are used to create an iso image of the firmware file on a CD: cd /tmp mkdir qlogic Copy the firmware image from the download site to /tmp/qlogic From /tmp type the following command to make an ISO image. [mkisofs -r -U -o qlogic.iso /tmp/qlogic] You should see qlogic.iso file in /tmp. ftp the file to a PC that has the capability to create a CD from an ISO image. Follow the next steps whether firmware is to be downloaded while AIX is installed, or if the Service Diagnostics CD is used (iso image of firmware created on CD). The service aid provides a way to copy microcode to an adapter or device. The service aid presents a list of adapters and devices that use microcode. After the adapter or device is selected, the service aid provides menus to guide you in checking the current level and installing the needed microcode. This task can be run directly from the dcommand line. Microcode Installation to Adapters and Devices For many adapters and devices, microcode installation occurs and becomes effective while the adapters and devices are in use. It is recommended that a current backup be available and the installation be scheduled during a non-peak production period. Notes: If the source is /etc/microcode, the image must be stored in the /etc/microcode directory on the system. If the system is booted from a NIM server, the image must be stored in the usr/lib/microcode directory of the SPOT the client is booted from. If the source is CD (cdX), the CD must be in ISO 9660 format. There are no restrictions as to what directory in which to store the image. If the source is diskette (fdX), the diskette must be in backup format and the image stored in the /etc/microcode directory. common syntax: diag [-c] -d -T "download [-s {/etc/microcode|}] [-l {latest|previous}] [-f]" Flag Description -c No console mode. Run without user interaction. -d Run the task on the device or adapter specified. -T download Install microcode. -s /etc/microcode Microcode image is in /etc/microcode. -s Microcode image is on specified source. For example, fd0, cd0. -l latest Install latest level of microcode. This is the default. -l previous Install previous level of microcode. -f Install microcode even if the current level is not on the source. 3.2 Other: ex. Installing the firmware on this code update or any other code related.
