Please refer to the section 4.0 of this document for instructions on how to stop the Netfinity Manager program. By following the installation instructions shown below, the correct System Management Device Driver will be automatically installed onto your Netfinity Server. If the installation is being done from this diskette, insert this diskette into the server's floppy diskette drive, bring up a command prompt window, screen, or session, and enter one of the following commands. The examples shown below assume the floppy drive is A:. If the installation is being done from the Advanced Systems Management Utilities CD-ROM, insert this CD-ROM into the server's CD-ROM drive, bring up a command prompt window, screen, or session, and enter one of the following commands. The examples shown below assume the CD-ROM drive is D:. For Windows 2000: NOTE: The following older servers require a certain level of system BIOS in order to run the Windows 2000 device drivers. Please be sure that the servers listed below have a BIOS level equal to or higher than what is shown in the table. Server model BIOS level Netfinity 5000: MOJT36A Netfinity 5500: KIJT73A Netfinity 5500 M10: KIJT73A Netfinity 5500 M20: KQJT19A If a BIOS update is required, use the latest BIOS image files and instructions for installation, which can be found at http://www.pc.ibm.com/support. To install System Management drivers under Windows 2000: * Open a Command prompt * If installing from a diskette, type: A:\WIN2000\SETUP * If installing from a CD-ROM, type: D:\DD\WIN2000\SETUP * Follow the directions that appear on the screen NOTE: If the Windows 2000 Hardware Wizard starts itself before, or during the installation of System Management device drivers, because it has detected the System Management hardware, then close the Hardware Wizard by clicking the "Cancel" button. The actions of the Hardware Wizard are not needed. For Windows NT 4: NOTE: The NT-4 operating system must have Service Pack 3 or higher installed in order for these drivers to work properly. NOTE: If you are installing on xSeries 232 and 342 servers without the Remote Supervisor Adapter, or on xSeries 300 servers, the machine will need to be rebooted after following either of the two installation methods below. There are 2 methods you can choose from when installing the Windows NT 4 System Management Drivers. 1 The unattended method will install the drivers and accept default values for any screen prompts that would otherwise appear. The user will be prompted if an error occurs during installation. For an unattended installation of the drivers: * Open a Command prompt * If installing from a diskette, type: A:\NT\SETUP -q * If installing from a CD-ROM, type: D:\DD\NT\SETUP -q * Follow the directions that appear on the screen 2 The normal method will prompt the user with instructions and wait for the user to answer before continuing with the installation. For a normal installation of the drivers: * Open a Command prompt * If installing from a diskette, type: A:\NT\SETUP * If installing from a CD-ROM, type: D:\DD\NT\SETUP * Follow the directions that appear on the screen If the NT 4 System Management Drivers are being upgraded on a system that has Universal Manageability Services (UMS) running, then the easiest method to upgrade the driver is to follow the steps listed below. * Click on the Start Menu, then select Settings, then select Control Panel * In the Control Panel window, double-click the Devices icon * Scroll down to the entry that shows ibmspw and highlight it * Click the Startup... button on the right side of the window * In the Startup window, select the Disabled radio button and then click the OK button * Close the Devices and Control Panel windows and reboot the machine. * After the machine has rebooted, install the System Management Drivers using one of the two installation steps described above. After the drivers are installed, they will automatically be re-enabled. 4.0 Stopping the Netfinity Manager application program ------------------------------------------------------- If the Netfinity Manager application program is already running on your Netfinity Server it must be stopped prior to installing any of these device drivers. The following examples show how to do this. For NT: * Close any open Netfinity windows * Open a Command prompt * Type: NETFBASE SHUTDOWN For more details on how to shutdown the Netfinity application please refer to the Netfinity documentation. 5.0 WEB Sites and Support Phone Number --------------------------------------- 5.1 IBM Support Web Site: http://www.pc.ibm.com/support 5.2 IBM Marketing eServer xSeries Web Site: http://www.pc.ibm.com/us/eserver/xseries 5.3 If you have any questions about this update, or problems applying the update go to the following Help Center World Telephone Numbers URL: http://www.pc.ibm.com/qtechinfo/YAST-3P2QYL.html 6.0 Trademarks and Notices --------------------------- The following terms are trademarks of the Microsoft Corporation in the United States or other countries or both: Windows Windows NT Windows 2000 The following terms are trademarks of the IBM Corporation in the United States or other countries or both: Netfinity 7.0 Disclaimer --------------------------- 7.1 THIS DOCUMENT IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. Appendix A: Package Specific Installation Instruction This update is packaged as a self-extracting Package for the web (PFW). To unpack, this update requires that your TEMP environment variable be set to a path with read/write access. You must be logged in as an administrator. The command-line syntax for Package-For-The-Web Driver update package is: Package.exe [-s] [-a [-s] | [-x directory] | [-?] ] [-s] This initial -s tells the Package-For-The-Web software to install silently and will not prompt if files need to be over-written in the %temp% directory. [-a] Tells the Package-For-The-Web software to pass all subsequent commands to the install package (i.e. the update). [-s] The second -s option indicates to run the update silently and unattended. For firmware updates the update is scheduled to run on the next reboot. An immediate reboot can be forced with the -r option. [-x directory] Use with firmware updates to extract the update to directory named directory. Since the Package-For-The-Web extracts itself to subdirectory in the %TEMP% directory, a relative directory will be relative to that location. Normally the user will want to specify an absolute directory. [-?] Display information about the command line switches. Only the apply-update-silently (-s) option is necessarily unattended, that is the other command line options such as display help (-?) may require the user to "hit any key" to continue. If Windows packages are run without any command line options, a GUI is displayed. This GUI offers all the options available at the command line, except that the -w option is not available.
