It will not affect any device drivers. 1.1 To use this diskette, perform the following steps: a). Make sure BIOS version 1.00, or later, is installed. b). Insert this diskette into the diskette drive and restart the system. If your system does not boot from the diskette, use POST/BIOS setup to configure the diskette drive as a boot device. Please refer to the Server Library that was included with your system for additional information. c). Once your system boots, a ramdrive will be created, the appropriate files will be copied to this ramdrive and the BMC update firmware update will execute automatically. d). When you are finished using the utility, remove the diskette from the diskette drive and restart your system. 1.2 Limitations If there is an error in loading the BMC firmware or SDRs retry loading the software by repeating the instructions in section 1.1. 1.3 Enhancements - IPMI 1.4. Level of Recommendations and Prerequisites for the update: - BIOS version 1.00, or later, must be installed prior to installing this ISMP firmware update. - A full tape backup should be completed and verified prior to running this, or any other system upgrade. - RAID configuration should be saved to a diskette: see the "Hardware Maintenance Manual" for more details. 1.5 Dependencies: - The OSA IPMI Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) driver is required. - The IBM mapping layer for OSA IPMI BMC is also required. 2.0 Change History ______________________________________ Baseboard Management Controller Version 1.16 - Added serial debug trace - Added FRU availability checking - Added FRU 0 for SMBridge - Added Soft Shutdown command - Improved system event log entry reductions - POWER OFF and REBOOT no longer require -FORCE from SMBridge - Fix for a lack of fan, etc., events reported after Windows 2000 restart Baseboard Management Controller Version 1.15 - Added CPU Mismatch for Power Up Prevention - Use CPU LED, not CNFG LED, for CPU Mismatch Baseboard Management Controller Version 1.14 - Allow other bit rates besides 19.2kbps - Implement SYS IDENTIFY (CLI) command - Fixed sensor unreliability - Fix CLI Sys Health indications - Update PEF table for PET severity during flash - Added Power Up Prevention for missing CPU 1 or VRM 2 Baseboard Management Controller Version 1.13 - Fix I2C Bus Test - Reduced Error Log Entries Baseboard Management Controller Version 1.12 - Added fix for unexpected watchdog restart Baseboard Management Controller Version 1.11 - Fix IERR handling in the case of a PCI error - Fix so that the corresponding PET severities are sent out - Fix FRU entries within the FRU locator table as well as other various entries within the SDR table Baseboard Management Controller Version 1.10 - Changed max ping packet size from 277 to 262 bytes Baseboard Management Controller Version 1.09 - Add support for SysRq keys in Linux environment - Fix for IPMI sequencing numbers causing SOL dropped sessions - SOL optimization code to increase SOL bandwidth and throughput - Fix for the following scenario: shared COMport during SOL, and then switch COMport to dedicated causes a 1601 error - Fix for oversized ping packets causing BMC reset (max ping packet is now 277 bytes) Baseboard Management Controller Version 1.08 - Changed the User Priviledge Limit for Null User ID per Baseboard Management Controller System Specification. Baseboard Management Controller Version 1.07 - Fix the reclaiming of the COM port after power line disturbance Baseboard Management Controller Version 1.06 - Report correct Hard Drive Number in error logs as specified by the spec - Various SDR records updates - Alert Policy cleanups - Proper logging of Power Down events - Various SYS HEALTH QUERY command corrections - Fix BMC hangs during SP TCP/IP power cycling Baseboard Management Controller Version 1.00 - Original Release 3.0 Installing and Setup Instructions ______________________________________ 3.1 Step by step instructions for this code update - Run the "IBM eserver xSeries 346 Linux BMC Update" with the following command line: "./.sh -s" where .sh is the downloaded update. NOTE: The following message is shown on RedHat Enterprise Linux 3.0 and other distributions that do not install the compatibility libstdc++ library. ./lflash: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory. If the above message is shown, install the compat-libstdc++*.rpm that was included on the distribution media. 3.2 Step by step instructions for extracting the Linux update files. - Run the "IBM eserver xSeries 346 Linux BMC Update" with the following command line: "./.sh -x " where .sh is the downloaded update and is the path to which the Linux update files will be extracted. - The files extracted are all the files that are necessary to perform a BMC update under Linux. Run "./lflash -c" from a command line to update BMC on 32-bit Linux or "./lflash64 -c" from a command line to update BMC on 64-bit Linux. 3.3 Step by step instructions for extracting the DOS update files to diskette. - Run the "IBM eserver xSeries 346 Linux BMC Update" with the following command line: "./.sh -xd " where .sh is the downloaded update and is the path to which the Linux update files will be extracted. If is omitted, /dev/fd0 is assumed. - The diskette created is the DOS BMC update diskette. 4.0 Unattended Mode _______________________ 4.1 Performing the update in unattended mode - Run the "IBM eserver xSeries 346 Linux BMC Update" with the following command line: "./.sh -s" where .sh is the downloaded update.
