The Agent, Console, and Server are modified during this installation. This SP includes support for Universal Manageability Services (UM Services), Director, UM Server Extensions (UMSE) and Level 3 Support fixes. 1.1 Limitations: PE eFixes installed previously should be re-applied 1.2 Enhancements: The focus of the service pack is to provide the customer with new hardware support and any fixes provided by Level 3 Support. The next IBM Director release will include the service pack changes and support an upgrade installation with systems containing the service pack. 1.3 Prerequisites: This update is only for IBM Director version 2.2 systems. 1.4 Additional Platforms: Linux rpm, OS/2, and Netware files are available on the web site. The OS/2 and Netware are SP fixes while the Linux file adds agent support. 2.0 Change History -------------------- Listed below are the details and history for fixes/symptoms since the last GA release. 2.1 Director 2.2 eFixes from Tivoli Windows Platform: - IC29618 Remote Control (RC) presents a black screen active session if the client has a process in the "Not Responding" state. o Symptoms: If a remote control session is started on a client that has a process or application in the "not responding" state, the RC console shows a black screen in the active state. Mouse and keyboard data is sent to the client, but no screen updates are sent back to the controlling RC console. This can occur on Windows 2000, Windows NT 4 and Windows 9x clients. o These file are installed to \Director\bin\ twgrcagt.exe twgrcgvd.dll twgrcipc.dll o Other APARs included in this eFix: APAR IC29359 - On a windows 2000 agent with screen authorization required, the dialog box on the agent does not time out. - IC29620 Remote Control session hangs due to max batch command limit being reached. o Symptoms: During a Remote Control Session, the client machines stops responding to commands sent from the Server due to the maximum batch commands limit of 32 being reached. To get to the new version of a Tivoli Linux agent, the user must uninstall and reinstall the agent. Netware Platform: - IC29769 Multiple IPs bound to a single NIC causes TWGIPCCF and the DSP to fail. - IY16253 Null pointer exception in decompressobject when using NFD Raid Manager on a Netware 5 agent. OS/2 Platform: - IC29769 Multiple IPs bound to a single NIC causes TWGIPCCF and the DSP to fail. 2.2 UM Services 2.2 eFixs: - IC29619 UMS SNMP extension agent disables power management under Windows 9x. System cannot suspend or hibernate. o Symptoms: The system will be unable to suspend or hibernate if the UMS SNMP extension agent is enabled. The Network Driver Configuration panel will does not list any protocols to enable. This may cause the DSP to not properly start and may also cause Director Server to not start. o Circumvention Use an 11 digit IP address - IC29807 NetWare Java exception with RAID Manager o Symptoms: The user will experience exception errors and Director RAID Manager errors that state: "Failed to connect to host name due to incompatiable versions. Upgrade the local application to version 4.20.15." The OS configurations Netware 5.1 SP1, Netware 5.0 SP5, and International versions of Netware 5.1 have the Novel JBM 1.1.7b April 2000 release applied. This patch provids a work-around with an updated command.class file which no longer makes the call that causes the exception. o This file is replaced: \classes\com\tivoli\twg\libs\ command.class 2.3 IBM Director/UM Services 2.2 enhancements - Install/Uninstall Service Pack 1 o Symptoms: Installation of files for UM Services/Director/UMSE adds hardware support and fixes critical defects (APARs). This support provides the capability to apply Event Action Plans and Resource Monitors to groups of systems. Previous versions of IBM Director limited the application of Event Actions Plans and Resource Monitors to individual managed systems. Please refer to the online help for more specific information regarding Group Support, Event Action Plans, and Resource Monitors. - ThinkPad T21 (2647) Support o Symptoms: Support for the ThinkPad T21 (2647) was added. o These files are installed: i2cnt.sys(win2000/NT only) smbus.vxd(Win9x only) i2cw.dll - 3000 User Client License o Symptoms: The maximum number of managed nodes that IBM Director can support has been increased from 1,500 to 3,000. Refer to the International Program License Agreement (IPLA) for IBM Director licenses and the License Information booklet included in the product packaging for further details. If the Service Pack is uninstalled, the user retains the license for 3000 clients and groups. - IBM Remote Supervisor Adapter o Symptoms: Update to Director Advanced System Management (ASM) life cycle tool to support the configuration of features introduced in the IBM Remote Supervisor Adapter (RSA). These features include: * Configuring the DNS support of RSA * Configuration of the Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) function of RSA * Configuration Options that support enabling and disabling of the DHCP client on RSA * Additional support of Greenwich Mean Time offset and Daylight Savings Time Adjustment * New Alert Configuration Options to configure RSA to forward events * RSA will accept hostnames or IP addresses for the SNMP server addresses * Provides restart of the ASM Processor independent of network configuration * Improved Service Processor and BIOS flashing o Limitations: When configuring an event forwarding entry that uses the Email over PPP strategy, the configuration information is not saved correctly. If you wish to implement this strategy, please configure it using the ASM Web Based Management option. - Integrated Install of UMSE Content o Symptoms: The Service Pack installs the UMSE related files where present. If you install any UMSE tools after the Service Pack has been applied, you must re-apply the SP. o UMSE uninstall To unintall UMSE after the Service Pack has been installed requires that the SP be removed. After the SP is removed, then uninstall UMSE and then re-install the SP. - Correction to IBM Director User's Guide o Symptoms: The IBM Director User's Guide on page 157 refers to full software distribution, which is a non supported function in UM Services version 2.2. o Change: Incorrect text... " The software distribution task enables you to distribute popular applications and install them on your network's native systems. Using the software distribution task, you can remotely install applications that use the popular InstallShield Installer. You can also remotely install applications which provide a Microsoft Package Definition File (PDF). This chapter describes how to import and distribute a software distribution package using the IBM Director interface. Before you attempt to distribute a package, make sure you read the guidelines for software distribution... " Correct text... " The software distribution tasks enables you to distribute IBM created file packages and install them on your network's native systems. For example, IBM Universal Manageability (UM) Services, included in the service pack on the CD, or downloaded from the web, is a IBM file package. This chapter describes how to import and distribute IBM created file packages using the software distribution task. Before you attempt to distribute file package, make sure you read the guidelines for software distribution... " - Revision of System Updates GUI o Symptoms: The Operating System (OS) button on the System Updates GUI linked to a Microsoft site which is no longer valid giving the user an error message about the page not being found. o Change: The OS button was removed from the System Updates GUI. The user should use another mechanism to update the Operating System, such as running Windows Update on the local machine. - Service Processor Flashing o Change: Flashing of planar service processors through the agent and device driver has been disabled. It is still possible to flash the service processor using the Advanced System Management Life Cycle Tool via either the serial or RS485 connection. - SNMP Corrected information The text under SNMP Support reads: " UM Services forwards the SNMP traps only if the SNMP Agent is installed on the Client workstation. You can install and configure the SNMP Agent as part of the UM Services installation process or afterwards by using the Windows 95 CD, Windows 98 CD,Windows NT CD, Windows 2000 CD or Windows ME CD. " The UM Services SNMP agent is not supported under Windows ME. Microsoft does not ship an SNMP agent on the Windows ME CD. - WinMe ThinkPad with USB Floppy hangs during startup o Symptoms: UMS 2.2 hangs at every system boot on ThinkPads with Windows ME installed and a USB floppy drive attached. o Circumvention: Do not attach a USB floppy drive at boot time. 3.0 Installation and Setup Instructions ----------------------------------------- *NOTE: Administrator privilege is required to install this Service Pack. 3.1 This Service Pack is applicable with the following Director component levels: Director Server 2.2 Universal Manageability Services 2.2 Universal Manageability Services with Director Support 2.2 Universal Manageability Server Extensions 2.2 3.2 This Service Pack applies to the following operating systems: Windows 2000 Professional Windows 2000 Server and Advanced Server Windows NT 4.0 Server and Workstation Windows 98 (including Second Edition) Windows 95 OSR2 Linux OS/2 Netware 3.3 Primary Installation Before installation of the Service Pack, IBM Director 2.2 must be installed. Follow the installation instructions provided with the product and then perform the following. Additional installation instructions are available in the file, "Installing_the_ServicePack.htm" located in the same directory. Web Source 1) To install on a Windows platform double-click the downloaded file 32p0183.exe. The self extracting zip file unpacks the files needed for the installation, and launches the installation. Answer the prompts as they are presented. Select from the radio buttons to either restart your system now or to restart later and then click Finish. 2) To install in an OS/2 or Netware platform, copy the respective downloaded zip file to %nfd_home% and unzip in that directory. Replacing or adding these files accomplishes the upgrade. The file names for the non-Win32 files are: OS/2: os2_ums221.zip Netware: nov_ums221.zip 3) To install in a Linux platform, first log in as root and copy the downloaded file (ITDAgent-3.10-2.i386.rpm) into a temporary directory. From that directory type "/bin/rpm -i ITDAgent-3.10-2.i386.rpm." CD Source 1) To install on a Windows platform insert the CD "IBM Director 2.2 with Service Pack 1" and change from the root directory to \ServicePack. Locate the file ibmsetup.exe and double click to extract the necessary files and start the Service Pack installation. Simply follow the prompts to complete the installation. 2) To install in an OS/2 or Netware platform, copy the respective file to %nfd_home% and unzip in that directory. Replacing or adding these files accomplishes the upgrade. The file for OS/2 is os2_ums221.zip and can be found in x:\ServicePack\Director\OS2. The file for Netware is nov_ums221.zip and can be found in x:\ServicePack\Director\Netware. 3) To install in a Linux platform, first log in as root and copy the file x:\ServicePack\Director\Linux\ITDAgent-3.10-2.i386.rpm into a temporary directory. From that directory type "/bin/rpm -i ITDAgent-3.10-2.i386.rpm." 3.4 Limitations - Windows 2000 users do not receive an appropriate error message that administration privileges are needed to complete this Service Pack installation. The user receives an error message box with no title, no text, and an OK button. After clicking the OK button, the installation fails. This problem is specific to Windows 2000. - After uninstallation, some files and registry entries may be left behind because they are in use during the SP uninstall. The user must manually removal/delete these files, directories, or registry entries. - Tivoli Linux agents do not support upgrade installations. First uninstall the older agent and then install the newer version. 4.0 Configuration Information ------------------------------- 4.1 This Service Pack is only for IBM Director, version 2.2, with the configurations listed above in section 3.1. This Service Pack is not intended for use with other versions of the product and may cause serious functionality problems or loss of data, if misused. Do not install this Service Pack on versions or configurations other than those that are listed in this readme. 4.2 Drivers The ASM Drivers for RedHat Linux 6.2 supporting the x330 and the Remote Supervisor Adapter in the x220 are now available on the web. To download: 1) In your web browser location/address field, type: http://www.pc.ibm.com/support 2) In the "Browse the support site" pull-down menu, select "Servers" and click the arrow button. 3) In the left frame, click "Download files." 4) In the "Downloadable files by Category" pull-down menu, select "Advanced Systems Management." 5) From the list of available files, click on the "Servers - IBM Advanced System Management Device Driver Diskette version 1.01 for Linux" link, dated 2001-04-25. 6) Click on the Linux file and accompanying text file to download. 5.0 Unattended Mode -------------------- 5.1 The silent or unattended installation is supported (running setup -s) with the Director file package included on the cd.
