It manages the Fibre Channel Host Bus adapters on these servers that connected to FAStT Storage Server. · IBM FAStT MSJ Agent: This software is required on systems where the Host Bus adapters reside. . Wrap Connector and Coupler The IBM FAStT Host Bus Adapters (2200 and above) support Full Duplex mode which enables loop back capability. To assist you in isolating 2200 HBA loop problems, a wrap connector/coupler assembly P/N 75G2725 can be obtained from Mechanicsburg or by contacting IBM Level 2 Support. For the 23x0 a wrap plug P/N 11P3847 and coupler P/N 05N6766 are included in the FAStT 700 Storage Server carton. You can also obtain them from Mechanicsburg as a kit (P/N 24P0950). =================================================================== 4.0 CONFIGURATION ----------------- The configurations that FAStT MSJ supports can be divided into two types: Stand-alone and Networked. 4.1 STAND-ALONE --------------- If you will manage the Host Bus adapter installed in a stand-alone system, install the FAStT MSJ GUI and FAStT MSJ Linux Agent on that system 4.2 NETWORKED ------------- If you will manage the Host Bus adapter residing in a remote system in a Linux environment, install the FAStT MSJ GUI on a management system. In this case, only the FAStT MSJ Linux agent needs to be installed in the remote system. Note that a management system may contain HBAs and therefore the agent should also be installed on that system. =================================================================== 5.0 REQUIREMENTS ----------------- 5.1 HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS -------------------------- · IBM FAStT Fibre Channel HBAs (2200, 2310, 2340 or 2342) · Single or Multi-processor Server or Workstation. · Pentium III 450MHz MHz or better,128MB RAM,and a minimum 30MB disk space. 5.2 SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS FOR Linux OS --------------------------------------- · Linux · Must have "root" privileges · HBA Miniport Driver: 7.00.62 or later · TCP/IP Protocol · Must have Administrative Privileges to perform management functions(NVRAM modification). =================================================================== 6.0. Note: The default FAStT MSJ password is "config". Make sure you change this password after installation to ensure that security is not compromised. To enter a new Password you must have Administrative Privileges. You cannot perform management functions and NVRAM\Flash modification unless you set a Password for FAStT MSJ. Note: Ensure that no I/O's are occurring when qlremote is running. Please refer to the online help file or the User's Guide for more information. To view the online help, go to Help and "Set Browser Location" to match the location where your preferred browser is located. FAStT MSJ supports Netscape Communicator (version 4.5 or greater). You may now browse the Help file by selecting "Browse Contents". 1. Open a terminal windows and run: qlremote 2. Open another terminal window and run: /usr/FAStT_MSJ. 3. A FAStT MSJ window displays. Connect to local host, configure LUNs to match the preferred paths shown in IBM FAStT Storage manager. Perform other diagnostic functions as required. Please refer to the FAStT MSJ User's guide that is packaged with the software for more information. Running Storage Subsystem->Profile in the Subsystem Management window will display the world-wide port name for each controller. Ensure that the preferred path in the FAStT_MSJ LUN configuration window matches the controller assignment in IBM FAStT Storage manager. 4. Apply the configuration and exit FAStT MSJ program. It might take up to a minute for FAStT MSJ program to end. 5. Switch to the terminal window that has qlremote running and to stop qlremote agent. Note: Steps 6 though 10 show what are needed to configure the FC HBA with the LUN failover/failback configuration data that is created in step 3. For up-to-date instructions, please refer to information in the Linux driver READMEs that are packaged with each IBM FAStT Linux driver release. 6. In the terminal windows type: depmod -a 7. Unload the qla2200 or qla2300 driver and then reload the driver using modprobe so the driver will pull in the new option string that was added by FAStT_MSJ. 8. Type the following command: # mkinitrd -f NOTE: This step will overwrite the original ramdisk image file if executed within the /boot directory. Specify a unique ramdisk image name to preserve the original ramdisk image. - Copy the file to /boot. For SuSE Distribution: - Type the following command: # /sbin/mk_initrd NOTE: By default, the RAMDISK images created are: /boot/initrd /boot/initrd.suse 9. If you are using lilo, in a terminal window type: /sbin/lilo Otherwise you will not be able to boot your new ramdisk image. 10. Reboot the system to the ram disk image just created. =================================================================== 8.0 Uninstalling FAStT MSJ ---------------------------- 8.1 Be sure to exit the FAStT MSJ application before you uninstall FAStT MSJ. 8.2 Change to the directory where you installed the FAStT MSJ scripts. The default is /usr directory. cd /usr 8.3 Type the following to run the InstallAnywhere Uninstaller. sh ./FAStT_MSJ_Uninstaller =================================================================== 9.0 LIMITATIONS ----------------- - If multiple NICs (Network Interface Cards) are present in the system, the FAStT MSJ client will broadcast to the first IP address subnet based on the binding order. Therefore, ensure that the NIC for the local subnet is first in the binding order. If this is not done, the diagnostics might not run properly and remote connection might not occur. - The FAStT MSJ application tries to help in not allowing the user to connect to the same host more than once (causes issues with policies and wasted system resources). This adds the requirement that all host IP address MUST resolve to a host name to allow connection to complete. - If DNS is not used you must edit the local host file on the systems where you are running the FAStT MSJ GUI and the QLremote agent. Add the host name to IP mapping manually. Edit the file /etc/hosts. - If the system has the firewall installed this could cause issues with async alarms from the agent running on Linux to a remote machine. This could also occur if the GUI is running on a Linux Client talking to a remote machine. To circumvent this problem do the following at a shell prompt: chkconfig --list Verify that "ipchains and iptables" in run levels 2, 3, 4, 5" are disabled. to disable at a specific run level chkconfig --level 2 ipchains off chkconfig --level 3 ipchains off chkconfig --level 4 ipchains off chkconfig --level 5 ipchains off chkconfig --level 2 iptables off chkconfig --level 3 iptables off chkconfig --level 4 iptables off chkconfig --level 5 iptables off - When a FAStT Fibre Channel HBA (QL2200, 2310, 2340 or 2342) is connected to the Fabric (switch), Loopback test is disabled since the adapter is in a point to point mode. Unplugging the cable from the Fabric and inserting a wrap connector at the end of the cable (or at the adapter) will enable loopback test. - The FAStT MSJ online web help can only be viewed by Netscape Communicator (version 4.5 or greater). - When an online device fails and goes offline and a subsequent configuration refresh occurs, the loop id for that device does not reflect the original ID since the device is in effect no longer in the loop (may show x100 or xff). - When a failure occurs during Diagnostics (Loopback test and Read/Write Buffer test) and the test is restarted immediately, MSJ may request whether or not you want to refresh the configuration. Select NO to continue the test. If YES is selected the Host may be disconnected with the following message: "Unable to connect to the Host: {Host Name / IP address}. The Host is currently in diagnostics mode, try again later." To recover, you need to stop (ctrl-c in the terminal session where you started qlremote) and then restart the agent "qlremote" =================================================================== 10.0 WEB SITES AND SUPPORT PHONE NUMBER ---------------------------------------- 10.1 IBM TotalStorage Support Web Site: http://ssddom02.storage.ibm.com/techsup/webnav.nsf/support/disk 10.2 IBM TotalStorage Web Site: http://www.storage.ibm.com/ssg.html 10.3 If you have any questions about this update, or problem applying the update go to the following Help Center World Telephone Numbers URL: http://www.ibm.com/planetwide =================================================================== 11.0 TRADEMARKS AND NOTICES ---------------------------- The following terms are trademarks of the IBM Corporation in the United States or other countries or both: IBM FAStT TotalStorage™ the e-business logo xSeries HelpCenter Linux is a registered trademark of Linus Torvalds.
