Please refer to the section 4.0 of this document for instructions on how to stop the Netfinity Manager program. By following the installation instructions shown below, the correct System Management Device Driver will be automatically installed onto your Netfinity Server. If the installation is being done from this diskette, insert this diskette into the server's floppy diskette drive, bring up a command prompt window, screen, or session, and enter one of the following commands. The examples shown below assume the floppy drive is A:. If the installation is being done from the Advanced Systems Management Utilities CD-ROM, insert this CD-ROM into the server's CD-ROM drive, bring up a command prompt window, screen, or session, and enter one of the following commands. The examples shown below assume the CD ROM drive is D:. For OS/2, type: A:\OS2\SETUP (if installation is from a diskette) or D:\DD\OS2\SETUP (if installation is from a CD-ROM) Follow the directions that appear on the screen For Windows 2000: For the following list of servers with the Netfinity Advanced System Management Processor hardware, correct driver installation will require that Windows 2000 be installed after ensuring that the system BIOS is at the following level or higher: Netfinity 5000: MOJT36A Netfinity 5500: KIJT73A Netfinity 5500 M10: KIJT73A Netfinity 5500 M20: KQJT19A If a BIOS update is required, use the latest BIOS image files and instructions for installation, which can be found at http://www.pc.ibm.com/support. The Windows 2000 System Management Driver files are included on the ServerGuide installation CDs for Windows 2000 and will be installed automatically when Windows 2000 is installed. Installation from the install diskette will only be required if Windows 2000 is installed without using ServerGuide, or if the System Management Driver is manually uninstalled. For installation under Windows 2000, you can choose from one of the following two methods. 1 The following set of instructions apply if you use the automatic initiation of the "Hardware Wizard" by Windows. * Click "Next" on the "Found New Hardware Wizard" screen. * The hardware will automatically be detected as an "Unknown" device for the Netfinity Advanced System Management Processor, or "Other PCI bridge device" for the Netfinity Advanced System Management PCI Adapter hardware. * Select "Search for a suitable driver for my device" and click "Next". * Insert the floppy drive / CD-ROM and check the appropriate medium (floppy / CD) on the screen. Click "Next" to continue. * Hardware wizard will find the matching driver for your hardware (asmpa.inf or asmp.inf). * Follow instructions on screen until the "Finish" message appears. Click "Finish" to complete the installation of the driver. 2 The following set of instructions apply when you choose to either update the driver, or install the driver manually. * Open the "Device Manager". This may be done by right clicking on the "My Computer" icon on the desktop, selecting "Properties", and then selecting "Device Manager". * In the "System Devices", look for an "Unknown" device or "Other PCI bridge device". The hardware has automatically been detected as an "Unknown" device for the Netfinity Advanced System Management Processor, or "Other PCI bridge device" for the Netfinity Advanced System Management PCI Adapter hardware. The driver must be installed for this detected device. * Highlight the appropriate device and right click to select "Properties". Click on the "Driver" tab, and select "Update Driver". For Windows NT 4: There are 2 methods you can choose from when installing the Windows NT 4 System Management Drivers. 1 The unattended method will install the drivers and accept default values for any screen prompts that would otherwise appear. The user will be prompted if an error occurs during installation. For unattended installation type: A:\NT\SETUP -q (if installation is from a diskette) or D:\DD\NT\SETUP -q (if installation is from a CD ROM) Follow the directions that appear on the screen 2 The normal method will prompt the user with instructions and wait for the user to answer before continuing with the installation. For normal installation type: A:\NT\SETUP (if installation is from a diskette) or D:\DD\NT\SETUP (if installation is from a CD ROM) Follow the directions that appear on the screen If the NT 4 System Management Drivers are being upgraded on a system that has Universal Manageability Services (UMS) running, then the easiest method to upgrade the driver is to follow the steps listed below. 1 Click on the Start Menu, then select Settings, then select Control Panel 2 In the Control Panel window, double-click the Devices icon 3 Scroll down to the entry that shows ibmspw and highlight it 4 Click the Startup... button on the right side of the window 5 In the Startup window, select the Disabled radio button and then click the OK button 6 Close the Devices and Control Panel windows and reboot the machine. 7 After the machine has rebooted, install the System Management Drivers using one of the two installation steps described above. After the drivers are installed, they will automatically be re-enabled. For Novell NetWare type: LOAD A:\NETWARE\SETUP (if installation is from a diskette) or LOAD D:\DD\NETWARE\SETUP (if installation is from a CD ROM) Follow the directions that appear on the screen For SCO/UnixWare: There are two methods you can choose from when installing the SCO/UnixWare System Management Drivers. 1 Using SCO/UnixWare's package utility: Launch the scoadmin software installer. Click to view the diskette or CD ROM (for example DISK_A or CD-ROM_1) and then install the package that gets displayed. 2 From a command prompt : pkgadd -d diskette1 (if installation is from a diskette) or pkgadd -d cdrom1 (if installation is from a CD ROM) NOTE: These commands are case-sensitive. Follow the directions that appear on the screen. 4.0 Stopping the Netfinity Manager application program ------------------------------------------------------- If the Netfinity Manager application program is already running on your Netfinity Server it must be stopped prior to installing any of these device drivers. The following examples show how to do this. For NT and OS/2: Close any open Netfinity windows. Then at the command prompt type NETFBASE SHUTDOWN For NetWare: Unload the Netfinity Support Program. For SCO UnixWare: Type: netfbase.exe SHUTDOWN (NOTE: This is a case-sensitive statement.) For more details on how to shutdown the Netfinity application please refer to the Netfinity documentation. 5.0 WEB Sites and Support Phone Number --------------------------------------- 5.1 IBM Support Web Site: http://www.pc.ibm.com/support 5.2 IBM Marketing Netfinity Web Site: http://www.pc.ibm.com/netfinity 5.3 If you have any questions about this update, or problems applying the update go to the following Help Center World Telephone Numbers URL: http://www.pc.ibm.com/qtechinfo/YAST-3P2QLY.html. 6.0 Trademarks and Notices --------------------------- The following terms are trademarks of the Novell Corporation in the United States or other countries or both: Novell NetWare The following terms are trademarks of the Microsoft Corporation in the United States or other countries or both: Windows Windows NT Windows 2000 The following terms are trademarks of the IBM Corporation in the United States or other countries or both: OS/2 The following terms are trademarks of Santa Cruz Operation, Inc. in the United States or other countries or both: SCO UnixWare 7.0 Disclaimer --------------------------- 7.1 THIS DOCUMENT IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND.
