Wrap Connector and Coupler The IBM FAStT Host Bus Adapters (2200 and above) support Full Duplex mode which enables loop back capability. To assist you in isolating 2200 HBA loop problems, a wrap connector/coupler assembly P/N 75G2725 can be obtained from Mechanicsburg or by contacting IBM Level 2 Support. For the 2300 a wrap plug P/N 11P3847 and coupler P/N 05N6766 are included in the FAStT 700 Storage Server carton. You can also obtain them from Mechanicsburg as a kit (P/N 24P0950). 5.0 CONFIGURATION ----------------- The configurations that FAStT MSJ supports can be divided into two types: Stand-alone and Networked. 5.1 STAND-ALONE If you will manage the Host Bus adapter installed in a stand-alone system, install the FAStT MSJ GUI and FAStT MSJ Linux Agent on that system 5.2 NETWORKED If you will manage the Host Bus adapter residing in a remote system in a Linux environment, install the FAStT MSJ GUI on a management system. In this case, only the FAStT Windows Linux agent needs to be installed in the remote system. Note that a management system may contain HBAs and therefore the agent should also be installed on that system. 6.0 REQUIREMENTS ----------------- 6.1 HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS · IBM FAStT Fibre Channel HBAs (2200, 2300) · Single or Multi-processor Server or Workstation. · Pentium III 450MHz MHz or better,128MB RAM,and a minimum 30MB disk space. 6.2 SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS FOR WINDOWS OS · Linux Red Hat release 7.1 upgraded to Kernel 2.4.9-21 · Must have "root" privileges · HBA Miniport Driver: 5.38-B13t6 · TCP/IP Protocol · Must have Administrative Privileges to perform management functions(NVRAM modification). 7.0. INSTALLING FAStT MSJ ------------------------- If you have downloaded the FAStT MSJ package from the IBM Support web site, skip to Web Download section below. 7.1 CD Installation The following files are located in the FAStT_MSJ folder in the CD. Redhat71 - README.txt (this file) Note: The README file that is on this CD takes precedence over the one that is displayed and installed when FAStT MSJ setup is run. - FAStTMSJ_install.bin (the install file for FAStT MSJ Linux) - The FAStT MSJ User's guide - 32P0081.PDF 7.2 WEB Download The package includes the following: - FASTMSJ_RL.tgz - A file that will expand to the following: - README.txt (the Readme file for FAStT MSJ) Note: The README file that is part of this self extracting file takes precedence over the one that is displayed and installed when FAStT MSJ setup is run. - FAStTMSJ_install.bin (the install file for FAStT MSJ Linux) - The FAStT MSJ User's guide - 32P0081.PDF 7.3 Installation The FAStTMSJ_install.bin installs the FAStT MSJ Application. Depending on your requirements, not all components may be installed. Important: If FAStT MSJ is already installed, un-install it prior to installing a new copy. 7.3.1 Open a shell and change to the directory that contains the FAStT MSJ installer. 7.3.2 At the prompt , type ./FAStTMSJ_install.bin 7.3.3 At the "Choose Product Features" screen, select the desired installation: GUI and Linux Agent GUI Linux Agent You may also choose to customize your installation by clicking on the "Customize" button. 7.3.4 FAStT installs in the /opt directory. The launch script is located in the /usr directory. 8.0 EXECUTING FAStT MSJ ------------------------ Once the application has been installed, launch it. Note: The default FAStT MSJ password is "config". Make sure you change this password after installation to ensure that security is not compromised. To enter a new Password you must have Administrative Privileges. You cannot perform management functions and NVRAM\Flash modification unless you set a Password for FAStT MSJ. 8.1 Ensure that you are in a graphical user environment. 8.2 To start qlremote, open a command terminal from the root directory and type: qlremote 8.3 Change to the usr directory in which the IBM FAStT MSJ script is installed. Type: cd /usr 8.4 Enter ./FAStT_MSJ 8.5 When FAStT MSJ is no longer required, enter ctrl-c and close the terminal window where qlremote is running. To ensure that qlremote has been terminated do the following: From a command terminal type: killall -TERM qlremote. You should get a "no process killed" message. Note: Ensure that no I/O's are occurring when qlremote is running. Please refer to the online help file or the User's Guide for more information. To view the online help, go to Help and "Set Browser Location" to match the location where your preferred browser is located. FAStT MSJ supports Netscape Communicator (version 4.5 or greater). You may now browse the Help file by selecting "Browse Contents". 9.0 Uninstalling FAStT MSJ ---------------------------- 9.1 Be sure to exit the FAStT MSJ application before you uninstall FAStT MSJ. 9.2 Change to the directory where you installed the FAStT MSJ scripts. For example, enter:cd /usr Type the following to run the InstallAnywhere Uninstaller. ./FAStT_MSJ_Uninstaller 10.0 LIMITATIONS ----------------- 10.1 If multiple NICs (Network Interface Cards) are present in the system, the FAStT MSJ client will broadcast to the first IP address subnet based on the binding order. Therefore, ensure that the NIC for the local subnet is first in the binding order. If this is not done, the diagnostics might not run properly and remote connection might not occur. 10.2 The FAStT MSJ application tries to help in not allowing the user to connect to the same host more than once (causes issues with policies and wasted system resources). This adds the requirement that all host IP address MUST resolve to a host name to allow connection to complete. If DNS is not used you must edit the local host file on the system where you are running the FAStT MSJ GUI and add the host name to IP mapping manually. Edit the file /etc/hosts. 10.3 If the system has the firewall installed this could cause issues with async alarms from the agent running on Linux to a remote machine. This could also occur if the GUI is running on a Linux Client talking to a remote machine. To circumvent this problem do the following at a shell prompt: chkconfig --list Verify that "ipchains and iptables" in run levels 2, 3, 4, 5" are disabled. to disable at a specific run level chkconfig --level 2 ipchains off chkconfig --level 3 ipchains off chkconfig --level 4 ipchains off chkconfig --level 5 ipchains off chkconfig --level 2 iptables off chkconfig --level 3 iptables off chkconfig --level 4 iptables off chkconfig --level 5 iptables off 10.4 Updating the Flash BIOS is not supported 10.5 When a FAStT Fibre Channel HBA (QL2200 or 2300) is connected to the Fabric (switch), Loopback test is disabled since the adapter is in a point to point mode. Unplugging the cable from the Fabric and inserting a wrap connector at the end of the cable (or at the adapter) will enable loopback test. 10.6 The FAStT MSJ online web help can only be viewed by Netscape Communicator (version 4.5 or greater). 10.7 When an online device fails and goes offline and a subsequent configuration refresh occurs, the loop id for that device does not reflect the original ID since the device is in effect no longer in the loop (may show x100 or xff). 10.8 When a failure occurs during Diagnostics (Loopback test and Read/Write Buffer test) and the test is restarted immediately, MSJ may request whether or not you want to refresh the configuration. Select NO to continue the test. If YES is selected the Host may be disconnected with the following message: "Unable to connect to the Host: {Host Name / IP address}. The Host is currently in diagnostics mode, try again later." To recover, you need to stop (ctrl-c in the terminal session where you started qlremote) and then restart the agent "qlremote" 11.0 WEB SITES AND SUPPORT PHONE NUMBER ---------------------------------------- 11.1 IBM Support Web Site: http://www.ibm.com/pc/support 11.2 IBM eServer xSeries Marketing Web Site: http://www.ibm.com/pc/us/eserver/xseries/index.html 11.3 If you have any questions or problems about this package go to the following Help Center World Telephone Numbers URL: http://www.ibm.com/planetwide 12.0 TRADEMARKS AND NOTICES ---------------------------- 12.1 The following terms are trademarks of the IBM Corporation in the United States or other countries or both: IBM Microsoft, Windows, and Windows 2000 are trademarks of Microsoft Corporation in the United States, other countries, or both.
