Full Duplex Support
  
  Version 4.54 of IBMMPC.OS2 and IBMMPC.DOS now support operation in
  Full Duplex Mode (FDX) when attached to a Full Duplex capable switch.
  In order for the Auto LANStreamer PCI Adapter to operate in FDX mode, the
  adapter microcode must be upgraded to level "CG" or later.  For details 
  on how to enable and control the FDX support in these drivers, refer to
  the questions and answers section later on in this file.

  Version 2.07 of IBMMPCO.LAN now supports operation in FDX mode.  The 
  adapter microcode must be upgraded to level "D0" or later.  For details 
  on how to enable and control the FDX support in this driver, refer to
  the questions and answers section later on in this file.

  Version 2.11 of IBMMPCO.COM now supports operation in FDX mode.  The
  adapter microcode must be upgraded to level "D0" or later.  For details
  on how to enable and control the FDX support in this driver, refer to
  the README.CLI file in the \NOVELL\DOS directory on this diskette.

IMPORTANT:  At this time, IBMMPC.OS2 and IBMMPC.DOS FDX have only
been tested, and are supported only when used with the Auto LANStreamer PCI
Adapter. 

Questions and Answers:

  How do I determine the microcode level on my adapter?

    Obtain the Auto LANStreamer PCI Adapter Diagnostics Diskette 
    Version 1.02 or later and boot your PC with that diskette.  The
    code level will be displayed in the upper left-hand corner of the
    screen.  The last two digits of the code level displayed on the screen
    are the microcode level on the adapter.

  How do I obtain the latest Auto LANStreamer PCI Adapter Diagnostics
  Diskette?

    Download TRPALS2.EXE from http://www.raleigh.ibm.com/nes/nestoken.htm .
    Execute TRPALS2.EXE.  It will prompt you to insert a blank formatted
    3.5 1.44M diskette and will create the diskette for you.

  If I need to upgrade the microcode on my Auto LANStreamer PCI Adapter,
  how do I do it?

    Download STRFLASH.EXE V1.20 or later from 
    http://www.raleigh.ibm.com/nes/nestoken.htm .
    Execute STRFLASH.EXE.  It will prompt you to insert a blank formatted
    3.5 1.44M diskette and will create the flash update diskette for you.
    Boot the PC with the Auto LANStreamer PCI Adapter installed in it
    with the flash update diskette and follow the instructions.

  Once I have upgraded the adapter microcode and installed the correct level
  of device driver, how do I enable full-duplex operation?

    To support full-duplex operation, IBMMPC.OS2 and IBMMPC.DOS V4.54 and
     later implement a new parameter called EnableTRFDX.  The default setting
     for EnableTRFDX is "NO", so if this paramater is not present in the IBMMPC
     section of the PROTOCOL.INI file, it must be added along with a value
     of "YES".    

     For OS/2, use LAPS/MPTS to configure LAN Transports.  Get to
     the "Current Configuration" window, highlight the LANStreamer Adapter
     entry, and select the Edit pushbutton.  Look for the item,    "Enable
     token ring full-duplex operation" and make sure that it is set to "YES".
     Exit LAPS/MPTS, saving the changes.  Shutdown and reboot.

     For DOS/LSP, use DXMAID to perform a similar function and reboot
      the computer afterwards.
 
     NOTE:  If you have multiple adapters installed and would like to enable
     full-duplex operation on all adapters, be sure to add the
     EnableTRFDX="YES" parameter to each IBMMPC section of the
     PROTOCOL.INI file.

     For the NetWare Server device driver IBMMPCO.LAN, if the DATARATE
     parameter is set to "Auto", then no explicit parameter
     is required to enable FDX support.  IBMMPCO.LAN will automatically
     attempt to open the adapter in FDX mode and, if unsuccessful, will
     then open the adapter in HDX mode.  If the DATARATE parameter is
     not set to "Auto" (ie, 4 or 16 Mbps), then you will have to specify
     a parameter to enable FDX operation.   That parameter is
     ENABLEFDX.  If ENABLEFDX is specified on the IBMMPCO.LAN load line,
     then IBMMPCO.LAN will only attempt to open the adapter in FDX mode.
     If that open attempt fails, then IBMMPCO.LAN will not retry the open
     in HDX mode.

  I had multiple Auto LANStreamer PCI Adapters installed in my server and
  the server worked fine while the adapters were in half duplex mode.  Now
  that I have switched to full duplex operation, one or more of the adapters
  occasionally drops.  What is going on?

    The Auto LANStreamer PCI Adapter is a high-performance Token-Ring Adapter
    capable of media-speed throughput.  Switching from half-duplex operation
    to full-duplex operation effectively doubles the PCI bus bandwidth required
    by the Auto LANStreamer PCI Adapter.  If you observe such behavior when 
    switching from half-duplex to full-duplex operation, it may be due to
    exceeding the bandwidth available on the system's PCI bus.
