The IBM Token-Ring Network 16/4 Adapter II works correctly only if there
is no conflict with other adapters in the system regarding the:
- I/O Base Address
- ROM RPL Address (only if RPL is enabled)
- DMA Level
- Interrupt Level
Note: If you change the default I/O address you must also
update the a:\Protocol.ini file IOBASE parameter. This is necessary to boot
the Adapter Diagnostic Diskette error-free and to execute the Ring Diagnostics correctly.
Run the adapter diagnostics after installing your adapter to ensure that
there are no conflicts with other adapters and devices installed in
your system. You may experience conflicts with the following options:
- interrupt level
- symptom - failure during card initialization
- corrective action - try another switch setting
- DMA channel
- symptom - failure during card initialization
- corrective action - try another switch setting
- I/O Base Address
- symptom - Adapter not found
- corrective action - another switch setting
(include updates to NET.CFG or PROTOCOL.INI)
- RPL ROM Address
- only if RPL is enabled via switch 8
- refer to a:\rpl\readme.rpl for details
- DMA Mode
- sympton - data transfer error , initialisation error
- corrective action - verify the setting of switches 6 and 7
to the ON position
Note: If you are installing the IBM Token-Ring Network 16/4 Adapter II
into a computer that uses a riser card for the ISA bus slots (that
is, the adapters mount horizontally - one on top of another) AND
this adapter is the ONLY adapter being installed, the adapter will
perform best when installed in the bottom slot, closest to the system
planar.

if you need to obtain the RPL EPROM update.
Limitations
A maximum of three IBM Token-Ring Network 16/4 Adapter II cards may be
installed in a machine.
If using the LAN Support Program with 2 or more actively running
IBM Token-Ring Network 16/4 Adapter II's in the same machine, the
LAN Support Program PTF UR37464 is required.
The IBM Token-Ring Network 16/4 Adapter II will not work in an 8-bit
data slot.
On a bridge machine, the IBM Token-Ring Network 16/4 Adapter II
is not supported by the IBM Token-Ring Network Bridge Program.
On a machine running the IBM 8230 Maintenance Facility, the IBM Token-Ring
Network 16/4 Adapter II is not supported by the IBM 8230 Maintenance Facility.
The IBM Token-Ring Network 16/4 Adapter II does not support the Ring Utilization
function utilized by IBM's LAN Network Manager program.
Ring Diagnostic
In case it is necessary to run the Ring Diagnostic from either the
diagnostic diskette provided with the adapter or a working copy
diagnostic diskette, make sure to alter the adapter I/O Base Address
(IOBASE parameter) in the PROTOCOL.INI file, to match the I/O
address switch setting.
If more than one adapter is installed in your computer make sure to
run the Ring Diagnostic for one adapter only each time.
The Adapter Software Interface Level 000000666666 is displayed by the
Ring Diagnostics for NDIS drivers.
NOTE: You can not use the Ring Diagnostics if the Diagnostic Diskette
is loaded via Remote Program Load. Please see also the
a:\RPL\README.RPL Information file
