There are several different methods to successfully install NT 3.51, NT 4.0 or Win95 unattended with the IBM PCI AutoLanstreamer adapter. The following examples could be as references for your installation. ======================================================================= Please review the Microsoft Resource Kit for NT or Win95 for unattended install procedure. Also please review Microsoft Knowledge Base for some details. (HTTP://WWW.MICROSOFT.COM/KB/): 1. Q155197--Unattended setup parameters for Unattend.txt. 2. Q142619--Unattended setup of network cards from DRVLIB 3. Q141519--Unattended and Computer profile Setup Fails to Install OEM NIC (winnt) 4. Q156606--Window NT setup fails to install OEM network driver 5. Q156876--Using UDF files with WinNT4.0 Unattended setup. 6. Q156795--Using Sysdiff.exe with Unattended setup for WinNt4.0 7. Q133349--How to setup a Floppy-Disk-Boot server based install. 8. Q114425--WFWG how to create a boot disk to load a Real Mode network ======================================================================== The first step for the install is to build up a bootable diskette to make connection between your target client machine and your distribution server. You could choose a distribution server, protocol and client software that meet your network environment to create your bootable diskette. We provide a sample bootable diskette called IBMRUI.EXE by using MS Client 3.0 with NETBEUI and TCP/IP protocols for your modification and reference. ======================================================================== For Microsoft NT 3.51 unattended installation. 1. Create an answer file The Windows NT resource Kit contains a file called Windows NT Setup Manager (SETUPMGR.EXE) that can be used to create a new answer file or edit an existing answer file. On this diskette, we provided a sample answer file named RUI351.TXT (in the SAMPLE directory). Make sure there are lines in the network adapter option of your answer file as [NetworkAdapterData] ! AutoNetOption = " Streamer " 2. Copy and modify files a) Copy the NT 3.51 resource files to the network share of unattended installation. b) Copy all the files that are located in NT subdirectory of the IBM streamer adapter diskette to the network share Please replace old OEMSETUP.INF with latest OEMSETUP.INF that support network remote installation provided by IBM. And rename OEMSETUP.INF to OEMNADIS.INF *** NOTE ******* Please make sure you use latest driver (version 3.04 or later) You can get the latest driver off the IBM Web site at www.raleigh.ibm.com c) Edit DOSNET.INF file on your share and add following lines at the end of the [Files] section d1, OEMNADIS.INF d1, STREAMER.SYS d1, PCISETUP.SYS d1, PREGINI.EXE d1, STRINST.HLP d1, STRINST.DLL d) Modify TXTSETUP.SIF and add lines in [Files] section oemnadis.inf = dx,d7,,2,0,0 streamer.sys = dx,d19,,4,1 pcisetup.sys = dx,d4,,2,0,0 pregini.exe = dx,d4,,2,0,0 strinst.dll = dx,d4,,2,0,0 strinst.hlp = dx,d4,,2,0,0 e) Modify NTLANMAN.INF ; Original Line below with exclamation point ; set AdapterScrcDir = $ (OEMNetDrive) ; Corrected syntax with exclamation point set AdapterScrcDir = $ (!OEMNetDrive) 3. Start up your workstation with your bootable diskette that can connect to the distribution server share and run WINNT =================================================================== Microsoft NT 4.0 unattended installation. 1. Create an answer file The Windows NT resource Kit contains a file called Windows NT Setup Manager (SETUPMGR.EXE) that can be used to create a new answer file or edit an existing answer file. We provide a sample answer file for NT 4.0 named RUI40.TXT (in the SAMPLE directory on this diskette). 2. Copy files to your network resource share. a) Copy the NT 4.0 resource files to the network share of unattended installation. b) Copy all the files that located in NT subdirectory of the latest IBM streamer adapter diskette to the network share under directory DRVLIB.NIC\STREAMER 3. Start up your workstation with your bootable diskette that can connect to the distribution server share and run WINNT. ===================================================================== Microsoft Windows 95 unattended install 1. Create an answer file and resource directory The Windows 95 CDROM on client use NETSETUP program to install all the files (create resource) onto distribution server. The NETSETUP also create a information file called MSBATCH.INF. On this diskette, we provided a sample MSBATCH.INF file which is named RUIW95.INF (in SAMPLE directory). 2. Modify LAYOUT.INF (which is included in Microsoft WIN95) and NETIBM.INF (in SAMPLE directory on this diskette) files for unattended installation. a. LAYOUT.INF Note: Replace "size" below with size in bytes of the file. Add STREAMER.VXD=1,system,size PCISETUP.EXE=1,,size - Please propagate these changes to each LAYOUT.INF file in different subdirectories. (eg Shared_Dir\SUWIN, Shared_Dir\INF ) - Now copy all the related files from WIN95 directory of IBM streamer adapter diskette to the Shared_Dir\SYSTEM subdirectory. b. NETIBM.INF - Replace the NETIBM.INF file on your server with the new NETIBM.INF file that you received from IBM. You need to replace it in all subdirectories that has NETIBM.INF file. (ie. Shared_Dir, Shared_Dir\SUWIN, Shared_Dir\INF subdirectory.) Note: Most of the Microsoft documents as well as Win 95 Resource Kit suggests to use INFINST utility for OEM adapters. This is NOT necessary as it is eliminated by copying the new NETIBM.INF file mentioned above. 3. Start up your workstation with your bootable diskette that can connect to the distribution server share and run SETUP.
