[English] GLXMESA.TXT MATROX GRAPHICS INC. 1999.12.15 GLX-Mesa Installation notes Contents ======== - Description of this release - Installation - Notes, problems, and limitations - More information Description of this release =========================== Matrox G400 and G200 owners who wish to run OpenGL based applications under Red Hat Linux can do so by installing this GLX-Mesa binary. This precompiled file combines recent versions of the GLX and Mesa 3.2 binaries into one installable rpm package. Installing this package will enable users to run OpenGL based applications such as Quake II and Quake III on their Linux systems. The GLX and Mesa source files are also available for users of other Linux distributions who wish to compile the driver themselves. It should be noted that while updated almost daily, the GLX and Mesa 3.2 binaries are both pre-alpha snapshots of work in progress, and may cause system crashes and instability. Incorrect installation of this driver can cause X to stop functioning. Installation ============ To install the GLXMesa rpm file open a shell prompt and enter the following command, using the actual name of the rpm in place of "filename"; rpm -ivh filename.rpm This will install the files necessary to run Quake III. Before playing the game logout and restart X in 16 bit color mode using the command startx -- -bpp 16 If Quake III is installed switch to the directory in which the linuxquake3 executable is located and enter the command ./linuxquake3 More information ================ The GLX module is still under development and does not yet support all features available to achieve maximum performance. Additional files and patches, as well as performance tips such as enabling Gart/AGP support are available on the GLX developers website: http://glx.on.openprojects.net
