    Zoom Player: Questions & Answers
  --------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: My video goes blank/black after several minute!.
A: Enable the "Disable Screen Saver" feature on the settings dialog.
Even if you think it's disabled in windows, windows sometimes
turns it off anyhow, just to irk people off.

Q: Zoom Player says it is "Unable to initialize the DirectShow
     interface"!
A: Your version of DirectX is too old. Make sure you have the
     latest version installed.

  Q: DVD Playback doesn't work!
A: Read the accompanied DVD.TXT file.

Q: How do I make subtitles show up with Zoom Player?
A: Zoom Player can display subtitles as long as a subtitle filter
is installed. See README.TXT file for more information.

Q: Some Anti-Virus programs claim Zoom Player is infected!
A: Zoom Player uses an EXE compressor called UPX. Some Anti-Virus
program mistake the compression scheme for a virus. If it really
bothers you, you can extract the EXE by using UPX which can be
     found at http://upx.sourceforge.net

Q: The rate slider and FastForward/SlowMotion don't seem to be
     working too well.
A: These function rely on the ability of the decoding filter to
decode at a different rate. Some filters are better suited
to this than other. It also depends on your CPU strength.
Certain formats require a lot of CPU power in order to decode
at even a normal play rate. Having them play at twice that
rate can cause them to fail.

Q: When I enable StayOnTop the OSD and ControlBar don't function
     in window mode.
A: Due to issues with window position ordering, I had to disable
the OSD and ControlBar when StayOnTop was enabled, this only
effects window mode, OSD and ControlBar should function just
     fine in Zoom mode.

Q: Why can't I enable all the listed ControlBar buttons?
A: The skin author is the one who controls which buttons can be
enabled as he is the one who has to draw the graphics to
     represent each button.

Q: Why do I get an error when trying to Play a DVD?
A: Could be a lot of reasons. Try specifying the DVD path on
the DVD options dialog. Make sure no other application is
opened that uses an Overlay surface, etc... DVD applications
take a lot of CPU processing power, so it's wise not running
     any other application.

Q: I see non-black color outside the video area!
A: Some cards don't like the "Overlay area covers entire window
area" feature, make sure it's disabled.

Q: Why can't I control the SVCD aspect ratio?
A: The SVCD decoder filters disable aspect ratio support, to
force it, you must have the Overlay Mixer filter enabled.
See the zplayer.filters file for information on how to
     enable this filter.

Q: On my 2-Monitor display, when exiting zoom mode, the zoom
player window is centered on the wrong display!
A: Disable the "Center user interface when exiting zoom mode"
feature as it centers on the main display.

Q: I have an MPEG2 decoder filter installed, but playback of
VOB files doesn't seem to work properly!
A: Try disabling the manual filters file or uncommenting the
video renderer from the filter file.

Q: Why does my video appear upside-down?
A: It may be possible that the DirectVobSub filter will switch
the video upside-down. If that is the case, right click the
video area, move the mouse over to the "Subtitle" entry on
the context menu and select "Flipped Picture".

Q: Why does the Derived aspect ratio appear completely out of
     whack?
A: There is a bug in DirectX 8 and which made this function
work badly. It was fixed in Windows XP which sports
     DirectX 8.1.

Q: Why does Zoom Player crash when I hit play in DVD Mode?
A: It's possible that you have two conflicting DirectShow MPEG2
filters registered with the operating system. Read DVD.TXT
for information on how to register/unregister your filters.
