From: simtel-info@Simtel.Net (Simtel Info) Subject: Uploading Win95/98/Me/Win3.x/MS-DOS software to Simtel.Net Keywords: simtel,msdos,win3,win95,win98,winme,freeware,shareware,software [File: 00_info/upload.txt Last revised January 8, 2001] Simtel.Net is an excellent way for authors to distribute their programs on the Internet. The Win95/98/Me, Win3.x and MS-DOS collections are mirrored by sites all over the world, providing exposure to millions of users on the net. The latest list of authorized mirrors is always available at these URLs: http://www.simtel.net/simtel.net/mirrors.html ftp://ftp.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet/msdos/00_info/mirrors.txt ftp://ftp.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet/win3/00_info/mirrors.txt ftp://ftp.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet/win95/00_info/mirrors.txt All files submitted to Simtel.Net are scanned for viruses and trojans, and are reviewed by professional archivists. Authors receive prompt personal attention in the processing and announcing of their uploads, which appear in Usenet newsgroups comp.archives.msdos.announce or comp.archives.ms-windows.announce (about 180,000 readers each) and in our MS-News mailing list (for those who do not have access to Usenet News). How to upload to Simtel.Net Simtel.Net does not publish instructions for uploading files because we prefer to coordinate uploads by having contributors contact us first so we can check to make sure the program is not already in the archive. File uploads are accepted via FTP, IE 5.x with FTP enhancements, or Netscape using a special uploading account, or via E-mail using a special mailbox which does not interfere with regular correspondence. Authors (or authors' sole authorized agents), if you have a program to upload please use the Simtel.Net upload submission form on the web at URL http://www.simtel.net/simtel.net/uplsub.html to enter a short description of the files you wish to submit and the method you wish to use for uploading (FTP or Netscape is preferred), or send E-mail with this information to upl-info@Simtel.Net . Please do not send files to that mailbox. Anonymous uploads are not accepted. Your full name (no aliases) must be included. The Simtel.Net collections are periodically published on CD-ROM. If you do not wish to have your package distributed on CD-ROM please do not upload it. No Adult Material: Simtel.Net is a family-oriented service, and we require that all graphic images, sound and text (in screen savers, themes, programs, documentation, etc.), be appropriate for all age groups, to include children. Due to disk space limitations graphic-intensive screen savers and Win95/98 desktop themes are not accepted. Unique or innovative screen savers (which are more than displayers of internal images) and screensaver-creating tools may be accepted. Due to disk space limitations uploads with Visual Basic runtime files included are no longer accepted. Simtel maintains the latest versions of these runtimes in the /pub/simtelnet/win95/dll and /pub/simtelnet/win3/dll directories, readily available for download by your users. The most recent packages include "smart" install programs as well. Simtel.Net does not consider Adware the same thing as Freeware. We expect full disclosure of all Adware to us to and users in upload announcements and program documentation. We encourage authors to include a privacy statement in their program documentation (available before installation) that clearly spells out any privacy issues users may have (e.g., what information is being transmitted, what is being done with that information, etc.). Authors must state that their Adware has no components that continue to run when their application is not running. Authors must also insure any Adware components are correctly removed when their program is removed. For detailed comments and requirements please read "Simtel Adware Policy" at URL http://www.simtel.net/simtel.net/adware.html . Demos and other programs that are not fully functional are subject to deletion from the archive after six months, or sooner if disk space is low. Games are not accepted unless they are strictly educational. Games which do not meet this requirement may be submitted to the games collection on ftp.cdrom.com. Please read /pub/UPLOADS.TXT before uploading. Programs that stop working after a fixed calendar date, for example December 10, 2001, will not be accepted. Programs related to Astrology, Numerology, fortune telling, Tarot cards, I Ching, etc. will not be accepted because they are outside of the scope our collections. Management policy does not allow us to accept lotto, lottery or gambling-oriented programs. We cannot accept any program that encrypts or decrypts using a method that may be subject to U.S. export restrictions. In your request to upload you must specifically state the type of encryption used and that it complies with U.S. export restrictions. Recent changes in U.S. Department of Commerce regulations easing export of cryptological software have NOT removed all restrictions. At minimum a "one-time product review" is still required. See URL http://www.bxa.doc.gov/Encryption/ for details. Simtel.Net does not have WinNT, Win2000 or OS/2 collections. A popular OS/2 collection named Hobbes can be found at ftp.cdrom.com and its mirrors. For information on how to upload to this OS/2 collection please read ftp://ftp.cdrom.com/pub/UPLOADS.TXT . Thanks to those who actively support Simtel.Net by helping us to keep up to date with the latest programs.
