                                DiscImageCopy
                                =============

This program transfers Disks (only SYSTEM and DATA Disks so far) with the
parallel adapter which is described in the CPC-Emulator CPCEMU by Marco Vieth.
It saves the transfered Disk as Diskimagefile which you can load in CPCEMU
with the F3-Key (since version 5.x of CPE you can load them with F6).

Hardwarerequirements:
=====================
I have tested DIC with an 8080 laptop and it does work fine with it (but it
is very slow). So you don't need special hardware (except the parallel cable)
to use DIC.
Don't use Windows 95 with DIC because the multitasking disturbs the transfer
of the disc.

How to use DIC:
===============

First you have to transfer the files DIC.BAS and Z10.BIN to your CPC. You can
do that with Marco Vieth's programs (included in CPCEMU). Now run RECEIVE.EXE
on your PC then start DIC.BAS on your CPC.
In the old version DIC did a speed test. Because of the incompatibility to
the Cyrix 686 I've changed the delay routine. You doesn't need your old speed-
test values in the new version any longer.
After that you can enter the name for the Diskimagefile. Then put the disk in
your disk drive A or change the BASIC-code:
                            115 |B   [or |A for drive A]

If you've done this press a key and the CPC begins to read your inserted disk
and to transfer the information. The track and the sector is shown in both
programs (at the end you've 39 tracks and 9 sectors). If there were any
errors until transferring the disc you have to start it again :-((. On my
Pentium 90 it takes about 3 min to transfer a disk now, I don't think that it
is possible to increase the speed in next versions.

- Marco Vieth for his detailed desciption of the diskimage files.

- Volker Riedel for his program MICROCOPY that was published in the PC-
  AMSTRAD-International (04/90). I had only to add the routine which sends
  the information from the CPC to the PC.

- Frederic Herlem for help me to find the errors in my transfer protocol.

- Chistophe Copin, who tested the new beta version on his Cyrix 6x86 and found
  the speedtest bug.

- Ulrich Doewich who gaves me informations about the Extended-DSK format (will
  be used in the next version of DIC)

- Hilmar Werner my programming teacher who shows me how to write a program
  which uses the parellel interface of a PC.

- Emmanuel Roussin for uploading DIC to the french FTP-Server

... and all that people I've forgotten to enumerate.

Possible errors:
================

Q: My disk drive shows that a sector can't be read. Retry, Ignore or Cancel
   don't help me.

A: Please check the format of your disk. I think that the disk is not a SYSTEM
   or DATA disk. It's also possible that there is a bad sector on your disk.
   Try to copy your disk on another disk (e.g. FILECOPY).

Q: My program works very slow. How can I increase the speed?

A: Normally it should work fine. Please mail me about problems.

Q: What shall I do if the CPC shows me that he couldn't read a sector?

A: Try to use the IGNORE command. If it's not possible to solve the problem
   with that command copy the programs to another disk (e.g. with FILECOPY).

Q: My PC doesn't show the next track though I wait very long.

A: Check both programs and your transfer-cable.

Q: CPCEMU doesn't read my transferred file.

A: Maybe, that there was a error while transferring the disk-data. Please try
   again to transfer your disk.

Q: The PC saved my DSK file but the CPC doesn't show 'ready'.

A: Your PC runs too fast, please mail about your problems. I'll find a solution.

Parallel interface:
===================

Please read CPCEMU_E.TXT in the paket of CPCEMU if you want to know, how to
construct a parallel cable.
