DESCRIPTION:
This package contains the System BIOS image (BIOS Family 786C3) and local and 
remote BIOS flash utilities for the HP Workstation xw4200. These utilities can 
be used to restore or update the System BIOS, which is operating system 
independent. 

IMPORTANT BIOS UPDATE ADVISORY: After upgrading from BIOS version 1.08 to this 
version (BIOS 1.09), it is important to properly initialize default BIOS 
settings. Follow the instructions in the HOW TO USE section to initialize the 
BIOS settings.

NOTE: To determine the BIOS family and BIOS date, press F10 on the target 
workstation during Power On to run the Computer Setup Utility, and then select 
File/System Information. This information can be saved into a text file on a 
diskette or on a USB flash media device by selecting File/Save to Diskette. In 
order for a USB flash media device to be recognized by the workstation, the 
device must be attached before the workstation is Powered On.

HOW TO USE: 
This SoftPaq includes the following methods for changing the BIOS version: 
- Use HPQFlash to upgrade the BIOS directly in a Microsoft Windows 
environment.
- Create a ROMpaq bootable BIOS upgrade/restore diskette.
- Create a ROMpaq bootable BIOS upgrade/restore CD. 
- Create a ROMPaq bootable BIOS upgrade/restore diskette from Linux.
- Create a ROMPaq bootable BIOS upgrade/restore CD from Linux.
- Create a ROMPaq bootable BIOS upgrade/restore USB Flash device.

This package can be used with System Software Manager (SSM), HP Client Manager 
Software (HPCMS), or preboot execution environment (PXE) management software 
for remote updating of the BIOS. If remote flashing is needed, refer to the 
remote utility documentation for instructions about creating a Remote ROM Flash 
job to flash the System ROM on target workstations on the network. 

1. Download the SoftPaq .EXE file to a directory on your hard drive.

2. Execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions to update 
the System BIOS.

WARNING: DO NOT TURN OFF POWER OR ATTEMPT TO REBOOT THE COMPUTER DURING THE 
UPGRADE PROCESS!

INITIALIZING DEFAULT BIOS SETTINGS
After updating to BIOS, complete the following steps to properly initialize 
default BIOS settings: 

1. Enter the Computer Setup Utility (F10).
2. Select File, and then select Default Setup. 
3. Select Restore Factory Settings as Default. 
4. Press the F10 key to accept the changes. 
5. Press any key to continue. 
6. Select Apply Defaults and Exit. 
7. Press the F10 key to accept your selection.
