Softpaq number: N/A Part number: N/A Filename: hp-OpenIPMI-7.6.0-104.sles10.x86_64.rpm Title: HP OpenIPMI Device Driver for SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 10 (AMD64/EM64T) Version: 7.6.0-104 Language: English Category: Software - System Management Division: Industry Standard Servers Operating Systems: SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 10 (AMD64/EM64T) Effective Date: ASAP Electronic Distribution Allowed: YES Softpaq Utility Version: N/A Supercedes: N/A Description: The hp-OpenIPMI device driver is a derivative work of the IPMI device driver that ships with the standard Linux kernel. This driver has been enhanced to include bug fixes in addition to supporting a PCI Base Management Controller (BMC) such as provided by the HP Integrated Lights-Out 2 (iLO 2) management controller. The file, /opt/hp/hp-OpenIPMI/IPMI.txt, is also a derivative of the Documentation/IPMI.txt file included with the standard Linux kernel. This file has been enhanced to document the additional parameters that may be passed to the ipmi_si.ko driver. The hp-OpenIPMI device driver enhancements are expected to be incorporated into the OpenIPMI device driver (www.openipmi.org) and subsequently, the standard Linux kernel. This driver may be used with other applications in addition to the HP Advanced System Management XL (hpasmxl) application. Enhancements: Added support for new HP ProLiant Hardware. Prerequisites: The Linux kernel ".config" file must have IPMI support enabled for rebuilds. This is not the default on some older Linux distributions. If a different Linux kernel (e.g. an errata kernel) is used in place of the supported version of Linux, the standard Linux Kernel build environment will need to be installed. Error messages will be displayed during the rebuild process indicating which Linux packages are missing. Notes The hp-OpenIPMI package provides enhanced IPMI 2.0 compatibility and better performance than the standard IPMI driver that ships with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 distributions. HP recommends that the hp-OpenIPMI package be used on all ProLiant servers that have the HP Integrated Lights-Out 2 (iLO 2) management controller. The system specification located on the Hewlett-Packard Company web site will indicate if an iLO 2 controller is present in the system. The iLO 2 controller was released on new HP ProLiant servers (300 series or better) delivered in 2006. Installation Login as the system administrator (root), download the RPM to a directory on your hard drive and change to that directory. If a previous version of the hp-OpenIPMI package has been installed, it must be removed before this package can be installed. To remove the previous version and any packages dependent on it, type the following: /etc/init.d/hpasm stop (if hpasm installed) rpm -e hp-OpenIPMI To install the package, type: rpm -ivh hp-OpenIPMI-< version >.rpm /etc/init.d/hpasm start (if hpasm installed) The drivers will be installed to the /opt/hp/hp-OpenIPMI directory but not inserted. For HP ProLiant servers, the hpasm package will automatically load the hp-OpenIPMI drivers if required for a particular HP ProLiant server. To check whether the package is loaded properly, type: lsmod |grep ipmi You should see entries for the following module: ipmi_si ipmi_devintf ipmi_msghandler Additional information and help is available by typing the following: man hp-OpenIPMI MD5 CHECKSUM: 188096aede51aeee6748aee772f76191 hp-OpenIPMI-< version>.sles10.x86_64.rpm Additional information about features, installation, use, and troubleshooting the HP Server Management Drivers and Agents is available in the HOWTO documents available here: http://www.compaq.com/products/servers/linux/documentation.html. systems supported: HP ProLiant BL480c Server HP ProLiant BL460c Server HP ProLiant BL20p G4 Server HP ProLiant DL380 G5 Server HP ProLiant DL360 G5 Server HP ProLiant ML370 G5 Server HP ProLiant ML350 G5 Server
