How to Setup a Remote SUN Solaris Queue This is for Solaris 2.2, 2.3, 2.4 and Solaris X86 2.1 1. This document assumes you have setup the IP Address on the Marknet, Marknet XL or Marknet XLe and that these devices can be pinged(ping address). 2. Add the HOST NAME to the HOSTS Table. This is done by editing your hosts table located in the /etc subdirectory. If you are using NIS or DNS this will need to be added to the master server. 3. After the entry has been made in the hosts table, verify that you can ping the host name of the printer and that it responds. Help on ping can be obtained in the ping man page. 4. Start admintool. This is a program that executes in the MOTIF or OPENWIN. After a moment a screen will pop up with a PRINT MANAGER Icon, click on this icon. 5. Another screen will be displayed showing the printers configured for your system. Click on EDIT, this will drop down a menu that contains ADD ACCESS TO REMOTE PRINTER. After clicking on ADD ACCESS TO A REMOTE PRINTER a screen similar to the one below will display. 6. PRINTER CLIENT will contain the name of the host from which you are configuring your queue. 7. PRINTER NAME is the name of the queue locally and usually matches the queue on the remote host. By default there are no specific queue names on the Marknet adapters. On the Marknet, Marknet XL, and Marknet XLe you can append a _CR to the end of the name for this queue and the adapter will add a carrier return after every linefeed found. Leave the _CR off and the queue is binary/passthrough. The Marknet XLe can also select the port by appending a 1 for parallel 1, a 2 for parallel2, and a 9 or _ser for serial. These are discussed in the TCP/IP Manual that came with the adapter. Examples: Marknet, Marknet XL and Marknet XLe john_cr ;ASCII Queue john ;Binary Parallel Marknet XLe Only john_cr, john1_cr ; ASCII Queue Parallel 1 john2_cr ; ASCII Queue Parallel 2 john9_cr ; ASCII Queue Serial -- Serial only available on XLe model 30X. john, john1 ; Binary Queue Parallel 1 john2 ; Binary Queue Parallel 2 john9 ; Binary Queue Serial -- Serial only available on XLe model 30X. NOTE: John was used in these examples to show that any name could be used in place of the queue name. The suffix is the only part of concern. 8. PRINTER SERVER is the host name of the printer that was created in step 2. 9. The COMMENT is optional. 10. PRINT SERVER OS must be set to BSD. 11. You have the option of making this queue your systems default printer queue. Press add, and you have now created a remote queue. NOTE: When using LPR/LPD or remote queues there is a control file passed to the remote or destination host. This control file contains information as to margins, copies, banner page and etc. The Marknet adapters ignore this file. If you need a banner, it must be generated by you or your software. Also margins, copies, etc, must be imbedded in the print job as escapes.
