PageMaker 6.0 Setup Instructions How to install the ppd file in PageMaker 6.0: 1. Extract the MPALD_AE.EXE file if it has not already been done. In order to do this, go to a DOS prompt and to the drive or directory where this file is located. Type in the filename, everything except the .EXE, at the prompt as follows: MPALD_AE, then hit your enter key. The file will then expand listing several PPD files. 2. If you have just extracted the PPD files, then you should still be in the directory where they are located. If so, then we need to copy these files to the appropriate PageMaker directory. In the United States this directory is C:\PM6\RSRC\USENGLSH\PPD4, while in Canada, the directory will be C:\ PM6\RSRC\UKENGLSH\PPD4. The command to copy these files should be as follows: COPY *.PPD C: \PM6\RSRC\USENGLSH\PPD4 (substitute UKENGLSH for Canada). Note: The spelling on US and UKENGLSH is correct, there is no "I". Note2: The PPD file will have to be edited to reflect the actual printer values for installed memory and options. To edit the Virtual memory use the PPD.EXE utility found in the PM6\RSRC\USENGLSH\UTILITY subdirectory. For other options, start PageMaker, and open either a new, or existing document, select File Print, Features, and make the desired selections for installed options and output resolution settings. Steps in PageMaker 6.0 for selecting the ppd to use with NEW documents: 1. Select FILE, PREFERENCES, and MORE. 2. Select Display PPD Name by clicking on it and placing an "(" in the box. 3. Click on O.K. and then O.K. again. 4. Reselect FILE and then select NEW. 5. Make sure that "Compose to Printer" lists your printer. 6. Click on O.K. 7. Reselect FILE, and select PRINT. 8. Make sure that "Printer" lists your printer, and right below it, you should see a setting for PPD. This setting should have the ppd file that you just copied to the ppd4 subdirectory, listed in it. If it does not, look through the selections listed and find the one the corresponds to your printer. 9. Once the PPD setting is correct, click on the RESET button to set that setting as your default, so that every new document you create will have these settings and you won't have to repeat these steps, then click on PRINT, this will save the changes. Steps in PageMaker 6.0 for selecting the ppd to use with EXISTING documents: Once you have opened the document, perform all steps listed above except for step "4". 4. Reselect FILE and then select DOCUMENT SETUP. All remaining steps are the same, however, you must make these changes for each existing document individually.
