Q1: Why does my 4039 display a 923 error right after turning the printer on? A1: The gray fuser/exit sensor cable is not properly seated. Push in on the black plug on the front right side of the fuser. Q2: My 4019/4029/4039 laserprinter displays a 30 Cover Open/Toner Cartridge Missing error but the lid is closed and a toner cartridge is in the printer. How can I resolve this issue? A2: The cover interlock actuator spring may be bent. Open the lid of the printer and look for a black metal pin attached to the inside of the printer's lid--this pin should be on the left hand side. Observe the pin as you close the lid of the printer. This pin should hit a small ramp located on the left side of the toner cartridge. If this pin does not hit the ramp, try turning the pin and spring one quarter of a rotation. Repeat if necessary. Q3: Why am I getting a smudge on my 4039 printer only on manual feeds? A3: You may be performing an unsolicited manual feed. Choose 'manual' or 'manual paper' as the paper source in your software. Next, send the job to the printer by choosing print in the software. After the printer receives the job, it will post a message stating 'Load Paper ..... Manual'. At this time, place the sheet of paper in the manual feed tray. If the paper is placed in the manual feed tray before the 'Load Paper.....Manual' message is displayed, the result will be an unpredictable print quality. Q4: I am getting a slight paper skew on my Lexmark laserprinter. How can I minimize paperfeed skew? A4: Paper skew can be minimized by choosing the correct type of paper and by loading the paper correctly in the tray. Choosing a xerographic paper with the following measurements will result in minimal skew: 75 g/m2, long grain, 100-250 sheffield points, non-recycled. Once the correct paper is obtained, the paper must be loaded correctly. Before placing the paper in the paper tray, make sure all edges of the paper are aligned evenly. Next, perform an 'S' bend on the paper to separate each individual sheet. With the paper tray removed from the printer completely, push down on the metal tab at the end of the tray to separate the spring plate and the corner buckle (this step is not required for 4037\4047\Winwriter 400 printers). Place the paper as straight as possible in the tray. Adjust the paper stop and side restraint to touch the paper. Note--If the side restraint is adjusted too tight, paper jams may occur. After the paper is loaded correctly in the paper tray, gently place the tray into the printer. Q5: Why does the printer intermittently display 920, 921, 922, or 923 errors (92 errors for the 4019)? A5: The printer may be plugged into a receptacle that is not providing a true earth ground which may restrict the amount of power delivered to the printer. Try plugging the printer into a socket that has a known good earth ground to see if the errors reoccur. Q6: My 4019 printer will not print anything but garbage. A6: Make sure the printer is in the correct emulation. a) If you have selected a 4019 printer in your software, make sure the printer is in PPDS emulation. To verify the printer emulation, try pressing the ORIENTATION but ton while the printer's READY light is on solid. A number '1' in the status shows the printer is in PPDS emulation. To place the printer in PPDS emulation, hold the PAPER button while powering on the printer. b) If you have selected an HP Laserjet Series II in your software, make sure the printer is in PCL4 emulation. The printer should give a number '2' when verifying the emulation. To place the printer in PCL4 emulation, hold the FONT button while powering on the printer. c) if you have selected a Postscript printer or Apple Laserwriter printer in your software, the printer should give a number '8' when verifying the emulation. To place the printer in POSTSCRIPT emulation, hold the PAPER and FONT buttons while powering on the printer. POSTSCRIPT is an optional language that must be purchased separately. If all of the above fails, verify the printer parallel/serial cable is a known good cable. Q7: My 4029\4039 printer gives a 'Change Paper Tray 2 Letter' error but the 500 sheet paper tray is full of letter size paper. Why is it doing this? A7: The paper stop in the 500 sheet paper tray may be in the wrong position. Remove the tray and verify that the paper stop is snapped into the slots labeled '11'. Also verify that the blue paper stop slider is snapped onto the right side of the paper stop. Next, set the paper source to the 500 sheet paper tray and check the paper size on the operator panel. The panel should reflect letter size paper if the paper stop is in the correct position.
