*************************************************************************** If no applications were found using the setup utility disk, the following instructions will enable installation of the Windows 3.1 printer drivers for the Lexmark 4076 Execjet IIc: *************************************************************************** 1) If you are currently running Windows, exit from Windows completely. 2) Insert the diskette labeled "Driver Disk 1 (Windows and DOS Drivers)" into the disk drive. 3) At the DOS prompt type "A:" and press . 4) Next, type "UNPCKDRV" and press . This stands for unpack driver. You should see a screen that says "Welcome to the Lexmark Printer Driver Unpack Utility!". Just press any key at this point to start the unpack utility and continue. 5) Now, choose the selection number 8 (MS Windows 3.1 PCL 3) and press . 6) The screen will next ask you for a target drive/subdirectory to unpack the driver files to. At this point, type the following: "C:\MONO" and press . This will create a temporary directory on your hard drive and unpack the driver files into this directory. The screen will display the following message, " Now unpacking A:\WN3176L3.ZIP to "C:\MONO\", and the message "Please wait..." will also be flashing on the screen. 7) Wait until the message "Finished!" flashes on the screen. At this point, a message will ask you if you want to "Unpack another file (y/n) ?". Just type "Y." 8) Now, the driver choice menu will be displayed again, and this time you want to choose number 9 (MS Windows 3.1 Color PCL 3) and press . *************************************************************************** NOTE: Please make sure you unpack the Color PCL3 file into a different subdirectory than the MONO driver as indicated by the directions below in step 9. *************************************************************************** 9) The message "Enter a target drive/subdirectory (ex: C:\WORKS)" will be displayed. At this point, type "C:\COLOR" and press . Like in step 6 above, this will create a directory called "COLOR" where the driver files will be unpacked into. 10) Wait until the message "Finished!" starts flashing on the screen. 11) At the "Unpack another file (y/n) ?" prompt, type "N." This will return you to the A:\> prompt. 12) Type "C:" and press . This will change to the hard drive root directory. 13) Start Microsoft Windows. 14) Open the Main icon group from the Program Manager screen. 15) Open the Control Panel dialog box by double clicking on the icon with the left mouse button. 16) Next, double click on the Printers icon. 17) Click on the "Add >>" button. 18) Highlight the "Install Unlisted or Updated Printer" selection under the List of Printers. 19) Click on the "Install..." button. 20) At this point, a dialog box will appear and prompt you to "Insert unlisted, updated, or vendor-provided printer driver disk in A:\." Press the key and then type "C:\COLOR" and click on the "OK" button with the left mouse button. 21) After clicking on "OK", the Lexmark 4076 Colorfine driver should appear in a dialog box. Click on "OK" to install this printer. 22) Next, click on the "Install..." button again. 23) As in step 20 above, hit the key and type "C:\MONO" and click on the "OK" button with the left mouse button. 24) After clicking on "OK", the Lexmark 4076 Mono printer should appear in the dialog box. Click on "OK" to install this printer. 25) Under the installed printers list, highlight the "Lexmark 4076 ColorFine" printer and click on the "Set As Default Printer button." 26) This should set the default printer as the "Lexmark 4076 ColorFine" printer and it should be setup currently to print color documents. 27) If you want to print black text documents, switch to the "Lexmark 4076 Mono" printer and insert the black print cartridge.
