MEDLEY FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS I. The current software, Faxsynergy & the print drivers are supported under Windows 3.1 as well as Windows 95. II. Lockup in Faxsynergy (1.X) or not printing when selecting Lexmark print drivers. 1. "Are you using a printer switch box or any other type of device on your parallel cable that would not implement a direct connection with your parallel cable to the medley (i.e. Tape backup on the parallel port.)." 2. In program manager (windows) click on the help menu and click on the item, "about program manager" to verify that your version of windows is 3.1 or greater. Choose OK to close. 3. Open main (click twice), open control panel (click twice), look for the ENHANCED icon. If the enhanced icon is not available then you need to restart windows in the enhanced mode. Open printers (click twice), look to see if in the list of installed printers if all three of the Lexmark drivers, including, "Lexmark Medley fax on...", are on the same port (e.g., LPT1). If not on the same port use the connect button to make them all on the same port. 4. Exit windows and go to DOS C prompt, then type: cd\ copy autoexec.bat lpt1 If you get, "write fault..." see conclusions. Conclusions: items' 1,2,3 can usually be corrected by changes in software or by parallel cable with the correct specifications, if not be sure to get the customers' computer model and type. Software changes may be required even at the hardware (cmos) level on their computer, which we do not do (must contact computer manufacturer) or the Medley may not work with their computer. Item 4, then: A. Parallel port on the PC (5% probability) B. Parallel cable (90% probability) C. Parallel port on the Medley (5% probability) IMPORTANT NOTE: Messages you see when starting Faxsynergy that have proved to be possible parallel cable problems. I. "Faxsynergy has caused a general protection fault in module mfpapi.dll", other gpf's are probably something else. II. The DANKA logo will not disappear, the mouse becomes very slow and when you try to quit the program you get the message, "there are Medley request pending...if the only condition you see is the mouse being slow, this is probably not the parallel cable. III. "Check connections and retry" FAXSYNERGY will not work with or through OS/2 or across a network. III. I'M GETTING A "WRONG/NO CARTRIDGE" MESSAGE 1. THE MONO CARTRIDGE MUST BE INSTALLED TO MAKE A COPY OR TO RECEIVE A FAX. 2. THE COLOR CARTRIDGE IS ONLY NEEDED TO PRINT FROM COMPUTER. IV. SELECTING COLORFINE DRIVER WITH MONO OR COLOR INK 1. I HAVE AN ERROR MESSAGE OF "1,6 OR 9,4" ON MY PRINTER 1. FIRST TRY PUSHING THE STOP (YELLOW) BUTTON 2. IF THE "RESET PRINTER" APPEARS ON THE DISPLAY THEN ANSWER YES TO RESET PRINTER AND PRESS "OK". 3. WAIT FOR ABOUT 10 SECONDS TO SEE IF PRINTER RESETS BACK TO THE TIME AND DATE. 4. ALSO, THE "1,6" MEANS THE CARRIER STALLED. MANY THINGS CAUSE THE 1,6 ERROR CODE: A. PAPER JAMMING B. INK CARTRIDGE DEPOSITS ON THE RAIL (CLEAN WITH SOFT TISSUE) C. ALSO, CHECK FOR ANYTHING IN THE (V-SHAPED GROOVE) LOCATED UNDER THE CARRIER ROD. D. THE ERROR CODE "9,4" USUALLY MEANS THE CARTRIDGE IS NOT SNAPPED IN PROPERLY. NOTE: FOR ALL ERROR CODES YOU SHOULD TRY ALL THE RESETS AVAILABLE BEFORE YOU REPLACE THE MEDLEY FOR ANOTHER ONE A. STOP BUTTON AND THEN SAY YES TO RESET. B. PRESS SETUP AND THEN SELECT RST SOFT KEY. C. USE PAPER CLIP TO RESET THE MACHINE UNDER THE DOOR BELOW WHERE IT SAYS LEXMARK ON THE PRINTER. A SMALL HOLE IS BESIDE THE WORK "RESET". INSERT PAPER CLIP IN THE HOLE AND IT WILL RESET PRINTER WITHOUT LOSING MEMORY IN THE MACHINE. VII. CLEARING THE "COLORFINE SPOOL MANAGER" 1. IN WIN 3.1 OR WIN95, THE ALT & TAB WILL TOGGLE THRU THE PROCESSES RUNNING. 2. HOLD DOWN (ALT AND PRESS TAB) UNTIL YOU SEE COLORFINE (TM) SPOOL MANAGER. 3. RELEASE ALT/TAB AND THE SPOOL MANAGER SHOULD BE DISPLAYED. 4. IF THE SPOOL MANAGER IS NOT ON "IDLE" THEN YOU NEED TO SELECT THE JOBS BEING HELD AND PRESS THE DELETE KEY ON THE KEYBOARD OF YOUR COMPUTER. 5. THEN IF IT IS STILL NOT ON "IDLE" CLICK ON QUEUE THEN CLICK HOLD AND THEN CLOSE THE SPOOL MANAGER. VIII. HOW CAN I IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF MY PRINT 1. TRY DIFFERENT PAPER, COATED PAPER IS SUPER!! 2. STAY AWAY FROM RECYCLED PAPER (INK BLEEDS THRU). 3. SHINGLING IN THE SETUP: WHEN YOU CHANGE THIS IT PUTS DOWN THE SAME AMOUNT OF INK BUT MAKES MORE PASSES WHICH SLOWS THE PRINT SPEED DOWN. 4. INK DEPLETION: 25%, 50% = DECREASES THE AMOUNT OF INK 5. LETTER VS. DRAFT: A. LETTER IS BETTER QUALITY BUT SLOWER B. DRAFT IS QUICKER AND LESS INK NOTE: THESE SETTINGS ON THE MEDLEY DON'T INCLUDE A PRINT JOB FROM THE PC. YOU WOULD NEED TO SET PC PRINT JOBS UP IN PRINTER SETUP. IX. PEOPLE SENDING ME FAXES BUT I'M NOT RECEIVING THE FAXES 1. MOST OF THE TIME THE ENDUSER HAS SET THE FAXES TO BE RECEIVED INTO MEMORY. 2. YOU CAN PRESS THE "HELP" BUTTON ON THE MEDLEY AND IT WILL GIVE INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO PRINT OUT A DOC.LIST. 3. ON THE DOC.LIST IT WILL GIVE A NUMBER TO EACH FAX THAT HAS COME INTO MEMORY. ALSO, IT TELLS HOW TO PRINT OUT A FAX FROM MEMORY ON THIS QUICK REFERENCE GUIDE. 4. IF YOU NEED TO CHANGE WHERE THE FAXES ARE GOING TO BE PRINTED OUT WHEN THEY COME IN, SELECT THE "SETUP" BUTTON UNDER THE DOOR BELOW LEXMARK ON THE PRINTER. 5. ONCE YOU PRESSED SETUP, PRESS THE FAX (SOFT KEY) AND THEN PRESS OK UNTIL YOU SEE "RECEIVE INTO MEMORY" AND SET THIS TO NO AND PRESS OK 6. THEN PRESS STOP TWO TIMES. X. TO TURN OFF TRANSMISSION REPORT: 1. LIFT DOOR UNDER LEXMARK AND SELECT REPORTS 2. THEN MOVE ARROW TO SETUP AND PRESS OK 3. THEN THEY WILL BE 4 DIFFERENT REPORTS YOU CAN EITHER TURN OFF OR ON 4.
