Chart Window

The chart window consists of a maximum of 3 resizable panes. By default the top pane contains price data and price related studies like moving averages. The middle pane contains studies which are best viewed by themselves, and the bottom pane contains the stock volume and other studies.

The panes may be resized by moving the cursor over the dividing line (cursor changes from arrow to resizing cursor), holding down the left mouse button and dragging the dividing line to its new location.

The chart window also contains a title which is the company name. It may be preceeded by the name of the chart favorite if one was used to create the chart.

Creating a New Chart

There are several ways to create a new chart: press { File | New } or the [Chart] toolbar button. This creates either a default chart or a chart favorite if one is currently the default chart type. A chart can also be created by clicking directly on the desired favorite chart in the Chart menu pulldown. Another way is to doubleclick on a symbol cell in the SLFMap window.

There are several ways to get a stock's data to load into a chart:

1) Start typing a symbol name which appears at the top left corner of the chart window. When you press enter the data for that symbol will be displayed. If you do not already have the data for the stock symbol saved in a file, make sure that you are connected to the Internet before using this function.

2) Open up the Chart Properties Dialog from the Chart menu. You can now enter the stock symbol, the time period, and various other chart properties from this dialog. You can also change the default window layout to your favorite one. See the Chart Properties Dialog for more information.

3) Drag a symbol in an SLFMap window cell to an open chart window.

See the View menu for showing/hiding individual panes.

If you hold down the left mouse button in a chart window, a pop-up appears with information (high, low, volume, etc.) about the column you have the mouse pointer positioned in.

When you select Percent under Scaling in the {Chart | Properties} dialog, you can plot multiple symbols in the same chart to compre their performance.

To add additional symbols to a % chart, first make sure the chart is the active window , then type one or additional symbols at the keyboard, preceding each with a '+' (plus sign).

To remove a symbol, type it in preceded by a '-' (minus sign). This is the only way to add and remove additiona symbols. If you change the Scaling to Linear, only the first symbol listed in the chart will be shown.
