Installation Initialization Self-Testing
Microsoft provides a free Web Servers for its Windows 9x/NT operating system, which nobody can see from the Internet. SmartWin CyberOffice then makes it an integral part of the most powerful Human Interactive Online Business Suite.
Installation

(Netscape Browser: please add extension "EXE" with MIME type "application/x-msdownload" to "Edit" --> "Preferences"--> "Navigator"-->"Application".)

Note that starting version 1.1 CyberOffice works with any Web servers that support the standard CGI 1.1 specification. Version 2.0 now comes with a built-in Web server. Installation of Microsoft Personal Web Server (PWS) is not mandatory.

Windows 95:

Windows 98:

Install Microsoft Personal Web Server (PWS) that comes with the Windows 98 Installation Disk.

Method 1: click the button then run the program.

Method 2: use the following mouse sequences

  • Start --> Settings --> Control Panel --> Add/Remove Software --> Windows Setup --> Internet Tools --> Details --> Personal Web Server. This merely loads instruction pages for the next step.
  • Start --> Programs --> Internet Explorer --> Personal Web Server. Then follow the instructions to fully install the Web Server.

Windows NT:

Install Windows NT 4.0 Option Pack. The software is available from Microsoft, check http://www.microsoft.com/windows for further information. 

If you selected a different WWW Root directory than you did in the CyberOffice Setup, you need to re-install CyberOffice.

You PC Web site can be viewed locally via http://localhost or http://127.0.0.1.

Initialization

After the installation, please follow the instructions to fully integrate the whole application. The very first step is to implement security measures necessary to safe-guard your PC from malicious attacks and Internet hackers.

A. Disable FrontPage Server Extension Web Authoring and FTP Server

Warning: It is vitally important that you disable FrontPage Server Extension Web Authoring Function before you expose your site to the Internet.

Windows 98:

  • Click on Start --> Programs --> Internet Explorer --> Microsoft Personal Web Server --> FrontPage Server Administrator.
  • Click on the "Authoring" button, Check under the "Web Authoring" group the "Disable" radio button.

Windows NT:

  • Click on Start --> Programs --> Windows NT 4.0 Option Pack --> Microsoft Personal Web Server --> FrontPage Server Administrator.
  • Click on the "Authoring" button, Check under the "Web Authoring" group the "Disable" radio button.
  • Click on Start --> Settings --> Control Panel --> Services.
  • Find "FTP Publishing Service" from the list, double click on the item. Select "Disable" then "OK".

B. Insert Link to CyberOffice

  • Dial up your Internet connection.
  • PWS puts an manager icon on the desktop known as "Publish". Click on the icon to start. Click on the "Web Site" icon on the left-hand-side column.
  • Click on "Edit your home page", or simply follow the wizard to setup your home page.
  • On the bottom or the left-hand-side of the page, there is an "add link" button. Fill in the URL box with "/SmartWin" and the Description box with "CyberOffice" (or any word you like).
  • Click on the "enter new changes" button on the bottom of the wizard to update the home page.

Self-Testing

A. Text Chatting Test

  • Start the CyberOffice application (from your desktop).
  • Click on the drop down box and select "Bypass Login".
  • At the CyberOffice main window, select the "View" menu then click on "Web Browser".
  • On the Browser window, click on the "Instant Contact" hyperlink on the left-hand-side panel. Fill in the Inquiry Sheet on the right-hand side then press the "Submit" button.
  • On the main window, select the "Tools" menu then click on "Accept". You should see the Call Sheet window filled with information supplied by the Browser window (through your Web server).
  • Type in any message you like. Select the "Tools" menu then click on "Reply". You should see your reply message in the Browser window.

B.  Audio Recording Test

  • Turn on your PC/workstation's microphone and speakers.
  • Following Text Chatting Test Up to Step 5 (before "Reply").
  • At the CyberOffice main window, select the "PlugIn" menu then click on "Record Voice". Windows Sound Recorder program (SndRec32.Exe) should be launched and is ready to record.
  • On the Sound Record window, click on the right-most "Record" button to record your speech. Press the "Stop" button to stop. 
  • Exit the Sound Record program, save the changes you have just made.
  • Back to the CyberOffice application, select the "Tools" menu then click on "Reply". You should see an embedded sound track is playing in the Browser window.

C.Internet Talk Test

  • Turn on your PC/workstation's microphone and speakers.
  • At the CyberOffice main window, select the "Tools" menu then click on "Internet Talk". You should see a topmost Internet Talk window.
  • On the window, click on the left-most "Call" button. You should see in the "Conference List" box a pair of connections.
  • Press down the Talk button to talk. When you release the button, you should hear your own voice on the "other" side.
