User guide - InternetPager
Purpose
Send by eMail, data received from a serial port. The principal objective of InternetPager is to send alarms, obtained from control console, via the eMail Internet service.
Often those control console used a modem linked to the serial port to dial pager service. InternetPager replace this modem and pass the message to an SMTP server. The message can be sent to many eMail recipient. As an example, you can send a message to a cellular phone with eMail receiving capability.

Hardware required :
A *null* modem and an RS-232 cable to link serial port of console control PC and InterfaceSerial (Ser_Ip) et InternetPager PC.
Software required :
Visual Basic 5.0 RUNTIME must be present on computer running InterfaceSerial (Ser_Ip) application.
Pre-install
1- " Unzip " compressed InternetP.zip file in a working directory. You will get three compressed files (.zip) : InternetPager.zip, InterfaceSerial.zip and VbSetUp.zip (Vb installer in english).
InternetPager installation.
1- " Unzip " IntPv100.zip in a working directory. Note : as I use a french version of Visual Basic, the standard install wizard is in french, you can replace this by english version in unzipping, on the same directory, VbSetUp.zip contained in the InternetP.zip compressed file. This unzip action replace french Setup programs on this working directory.
2- Run Setup program and follow installation instruction provided by "installation Wizard".
3- You are now able to customize InternetPager as you wish. However, it is important to install InterfaceSerial (Ser_Ip) before the customisation of InternetPager.
4- " Unzip " InterfaceSerial.zip in another working directory. This unzip action replace french Setup programs on this working directory.
5- Run Setup program and follow installation instruction provided by "installation Wizard".
6- Run Ser_Ip from Start menu.
7- Use UserGuide-Ser_Ip.txt to help you in customisation of InterfaceSerial (Ser_Ip). You must use InterfaceSerial (Ser_Ip) as a server. These are parameters for preparing InterfaceSerial (Ser_Ip) to run with InternetPager :
- langue : english (to obtain a user interface in english).
- mode : server.
- display : as you wish.
- Select under serial port button, the related parameters for the serial port to interface.
- Select service " 7243 " as listening port of server.
- Select exchange protocol between serial port and InterfaceSerial application.
- Select Execution on start-up.
- Click on " Start " and note window's title in running mode. This title must be specified as a parameter to InternetPager application.
8- Run InternetPager from Start menu.
9- Specify " English " to obtain english user interface.
10- Complete InternetPager parameters as your organisation need.
Parameters explained - InternetPager
InternetPager menu - Configuration and start-up:
File menu contain those options :
'Language', which is used to specify user interface language for InternetPager.
'Sender identification' which open a window to specify eMail sender parameters.
'Receiver identification' which open a window to specify receiver name and eMail address.
'Link to message sender interface' which open a window to specify the exec file localisation and name. This application is the one responsible to interface control console serial port.
'Start application' initiate InterfaceSerial and execute InternetPager.
'Execution at start-up' which is a toggle option. When checked, InternetPager will initiate all process and program required to be operationnal.
'Stop application', self explanatory.
" Sender identification " option
This option open a window on SMTP parameters. These are mandatory to determine the SMTP server and sender identification. Specify " host name ", " SMTP port acces ", " user id on server ", " password of user id (encrypted in windows registry) and finaly the " name and eMail address of sender ".
" Receiver identification " option
With this option you get a window where you can specify all eMail receiver for a message comming from InterfaceSerial (Ser_Ip). You must complete " name and eMail address of receiver ".
1- You can specify more than one receiver. To add a receiver, use the "Add" button and specify " name and eMail address ". To complete the inscription of the receiver, click on "Confirm change" button.
To update receiver defined, click on "Update" button, select receiver to modify or suppress, do the change and click on "Confirm change" or "Delete this entry" depending on the action required.
" Link to message sender interface " option
Whith this option, you get a panel offering area to locate InterfaceSerial (Ser_Ip) and start this one if it reside on the PC.
Specify the Ip address of the computer running InterfaceSerial (Ser_Ip), the Ip port (default 7243 = " page " on phone keyboard) of the listening InterfaceSerial (Ser_Ip) application. If InterfaceSerial (Ser_Ip) reside on the same computer than InternetPager specify 127.0.0.1 as Ip address.
Following area specify InterfaceSerial (Ser_Ip) directory, name of the exec file, allocated time to start InterfaceSerial (Ser_Ip) before continuing the start-up process, the window's title of InterfaceSerial (Ser_Ip) application in running mode (reference point 7) et finaly allocated time for the connection to Ip port of InterfaceSerial (Ser_Ip) application. Allocated time area are used to insert delay between computer process before returning error message. Allocated time must be specified in millisecond (1000 = 1 second).
