Date: Jan 14th '99 ============================================================================= Map info. ============================================================================= Title: :Bassai Dai Filename: :hcdm1 Game: :Quake 1.01 or higher :Q2 version coming soon under the title:- "What did you say? (about my ma)" Auhtor: :HoT CaKeS (c) / Eddy Dawson E-mail: :cakes@theoven.freeserve.co.uk URL: :http://www.dp99.freeserve.co.uk (not mine but the map will be here for the mo -thanks Alex :) I'll have a site up within the next 2 or 3 months prolly. Description: :This level was designed with 1 on 1 in mind although 3-6 player ffa, 2v2 or 3v3 may work well (It does with bots. I haven't tried the last three with humans). Any more than 8 and you're a psycho! I wanted to make a map with a Japanese martial arts dojo theme (please bow on entry and exit :). The name "Bassai Dai" means 'To storm a castle' in Japanese. I made some new textures to give the level a more feudal feel. They're all authentic and have appropriate meanings. But I'll leave it upto you to figure out what they all mean :) Heh Heh Heh. I'm particularly pleased with this level because it has the atmosphere I intended from the beginning (which is very rare for me :) and the r-speeds are also half-decent too (which is also quite rare for me :). ============================================================================= Construction ============================================================================= Base: :New level from scratch. Editors: :Qoole and AdQuedit v1.3. New Textures: :4 or 5 Japanese kanji's and pictures (not all included in the level). A weapon/armour plate courtesy (kinda:) of Headshot. Just e-mail me if ya wanna 'borrow' them. Bugs: :None that affect gameplay but texture blurring occurs in high resolutions in non-GL mode. Solution: Use GL or lower resolution. Build time: :About a week or so for building and two more for testing and tweaking. Compile info :Machine - P2 300 (WAHAY - brand new!). Oh, and 32mb :) QBSP256c - 1 min, 57 seconds. Arghlite (-extra) - 2 mins, 40 seconds. RVis - 32 seconds would you believe! (no, probably). ============================================================================= Play info. ============================================================================= Single player: :For the real enthusiast... ;) Deathmatch: :NoooOOOOoooo <--- evil sarcasm. 2 - 6 players recommended Weapons: :2 x RL. GL. 2 x LG. SNG. None of those weedy ones :) Armour: :2 x Yellow. Red. Powerups: :Ring. Megahealth. How to use: :Extract or copy the two files in this zip into- C:\QUAKE\ID1\MAPS (assuming your HD is 'c' and your quake dir is 'quake'. Then at the console type 'map hcdm1'. ============================================================================= Credits and Copyright. ============================================================================= Thanks to: *My Jiu Jitsu Sensei, Ian Purnell and my Karate Sensei, Chris Turbitt for getting me interested in Martial arts. *Huge amount of thanks to Dennis Kaltwasser (Headshot) for letting me use a similar texture to his head_mt9, for making some bloody kick-ass maps(!) and for giving me his comments on this one :) . *Alex and Alex who claim my levels are really good. (Can't tell whether or not they're lying though :/ . *Colin "Quake50" Dodd for helping me improve the level. *The Authors of Qoole and AdQuedit for authoring Qoole and AdQuedit. Hehe. Paul Hsu, Matthew Ayres (Qoole) and the rest of lithium software, and Cable Hicks (AdQuedit). *Cable Hicks for having a cool first name. *Antony Suter for RVIS. *Tim Wright for Arghlite. *Tom Grandgent for QBSP256c. Please do not use this level as a base for any of your creations. Even though I'm not sure as to how you would go about doing that anyway :). By all means use the new textures in the map, just E-mail me first please. Don't flog it for money. If you bought this level, you've been screwed! Distribute it as you wish as long as you include the bsp file and this file, unmodified, in the zip. Please ask me if you wanna put it in a compilation or on a cover CD or something. One last thing. I would love to hear what you thought about this level - positive or negative (no flames please)- so I can make it better next time around. Also, inform me if you put it on a server, I'll come visit (as long as it's in Europe :). If anyone knows how to get rid of that horrible texture blurring PLEASE tell me! Phew! Thanks man, Edd / "HoT CaKeS (c)". P.S: The (c) symbol is for no reason other than for the sake of slightly humorousness. (What great English).
