GARGON

(The History of Gargon)

In the year 2026, a structure upon a distant planet is discovered. Created by what archaeologists claim to be an ancient race, the area is tarnished with what many theorists claim to be the markings of great battles, of some kind or another. While a great deal of research is placed into understanding the structure's exact purpose, most of those who encountered it were too taken by the feeling of death that surrounded it and left the project. Further research was cancelled by the year 2028.

Midway through the final year of research, a company owned and run by 'Cabalco enterprises' endeavored to reopen the site for its original purpose- battle. By 2029, the newly named site, GargonTM (taken from inscriptions on the site and roughly converted into English) was reopened to anyone who wished, for a price, to relive the 'Gargon experience'.

That year, Cabalco watched as hundreds died on GargonTM. Payment was simple: Everything you had to your name. (Minimum starting fee was $20,000) Still, the prizes for being the last man or woman standing were tremendous. The last person standing claimed 50% of the profits Cabalco received. However, in most cases, Cabalco ended up with that too as most victors only ever survived one battle. All in all, one could see Cabalco was the ultimate winner. Still, the challengers came in droves...

Challenges were held once a month at the same time.

All passengers (maximum of eight) would choose their gear and climb aboard the Corvette class, low altitude drop-ship and strap in. The drop-ship would take off with an autopilot, headed for the dreaded site, GargonTM.

The general rules were simple: (a random selection, taken from 'the Gargon manual', 2029)

  • 1
12:00 showdown, all weapon locks will be disabled and the fight will begin.

  • 34
Once the last man or woman standing is determined, the craft will take the victor back to claim their prize.

  • 23, sub-paragraph 42
It is advised that you do not make friends on you way to GargonTM.

  • 596
The chance you will die stands at 655522945 to 1, should you have been victorious at GargonTM before. It is compulsory that you appear once a year until the day you die, as an honorary tribute to Cabalco.

Up until the demise of the Cabalco organisation, the rules and conditions of 'the GargonTM manual' stood fast as the way battle was to be conducted. At the current date of writing, these rules have been abandoned in favour of the less complex rules of many smaller companies who, on a yearly basis, book GargonTM for similar battles. While their battles are less strict and don't come as close to the rewards offered by the Mega Corporation, Cabalco, they are conducted in a similar fashion, and as spoken by Mickey Boorago (head of Monowish corporation)...

"...are what we believe to contain the same 'spirit of battle' Cabalco captured in their GargonTM battles, despite the differing in rules..."

With this kind of assurance, many have found enjoyment (and death) in the newer GargonTM battles. One GargonTM victor is even quoted in saying,

"Gargon rocks!"

...extremely loud when interviewed on an international television broadcast. While some may argue that yelling such a thing is a 'reflex action' after defeating 7 opponents in a psychologically impairing environment, one may also be lead to believe the hyper violent sport is bringing enjoyment to people all around the globe.

One thing remains true to the situation: GargonTM, despite a great deal of rejection from those who believe the battleground as 'evil' and 'a waste of human life', has successfully eliminated both over-population and the need for competition. Crime is now far rarer than it was 10 years ago, as those who have 'over active temperaments', can fight on GargonTM for free, once a year. As spoken by the 'Gargon for the world committee's' Frank Lester,

"Gargon is every man and woman's dream. As human beings, we live to fight and then we die. What GargonTM is all about is giving those who want to live a better chance at life, while those who obviously don't deserve it a fun and enjoyable death."

Even though many may claim Frank Lester's comments are both 'stupid' and 'displaying a lack of judgement'; it is easy for one to see the truth in his words. Due to the fact the battleground is a triumphant success, the deaths of those who have fought at GargonTM are justified.

Indeed, GargonTM rocks. The only question that still remains is wether you will be brave enough to tackle the glory of GargonTM as both our race and the ancients have done before? Will you be the first to claim two victories in a row? Many claim this is an impossible task on GargonTM, but then they haven't seen you or I fight, have they? We may be the ones to break tradition...
But then, you'll never know, unless you try.
