What is a Tap Counter?

An online tap counter is a simple tool that works by keeping a tally of every time the screen is tapped or clicked.

It is used by many professionals who use it for their job, by helping them keep track of their inventory. It improves productivity and data tracking. Retail and property management are popular fields that use it, as well as jobs that require tracking event attendance, or any field that requires an accurate count.

Modern tap counters like this one are applications that can be used in every smartphone device.

Using Tap Counters for Businesses

Tap counters are commonly used for counting products or items as part of inventory management. Almost all product industries require storage of inventory before manufacturing finished goods from raw materials or delivering finished goods to their customers.

The information for this inventory is managed through systems like ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), WMS (Warehouse Management Systems) or IMS (Inventory Management System). Businesses rely on these systems to monitor their inventory stored, inventory received, and inventory shipped. This information is also used for accounting purposes where business profitability is calculated.

There are several reasons why the physical inventory count doesn’t match the one kept in these systems. For example, a warehouse worker for a furniture manufacturing business that received 10,000 screws for the inventory might notice hundreds of defects. Then the worker updates the system for an estimated (inaccurate) amount instead of counting the defects one by one.

This issue typically occurs multiple times for multiple items that eventually creates an inventory gap between what’s in the system versus the physical inventory. Obviously, screws aren’t high value items that can cause large financial issues but the same can apply to any item or product with higher value.

Precise Inventory Counts with a Tap Counter

It’s critical to keep the inventory numbers accurate for every business so they practice regular inventory counts (stock take / physical count). This physical inventory count is done by counting the number of each type of item stored and by updating the outdated numbers in the system.

The physical count can also be done when the items or products are received or once they are picked from the storage for a customer order. Tap counters are used to keep these inventory numbers precise. As the inventory numbers are recorded accurately, the business can report accurate earnings (or cost of goods sold), gross profit and net income.

The accuracy of these counts also helps businesses plan their supply more efficiently either by ordering from a supplier or by manufacturing the actual amount of supply that’s needed. If the inventory levels are impacted by missing, stolen, lost or broken items, the tally counter can give insights into determining these issues.

People that have trouble counting in their head, whether they get distracted or lose focus easily, or even if they have a disability like ADHD or autism can benefit greatly from a Tap Counter.

Not to mention that counting in your head is more prone to error than using a tap counter. With a tap counter, it’s much harder to lose track of numbers and if you need to pause and take a break the tap count will still be on the screen for when you return.

Reduced Warehouse Labor Hours Spent on Physical Inventory Counts

As tedious as the physical count of each product sounds, these counting processes can take a long time. This means operational down-time and/or additional labor cost for the business. Tap counters are designed to cut down the time and effort required for these counting processes.

Before the use of tap counters, the counting was prone to human errors and repetitions of counting the same item due to lack of consistency in recording. With the use of modern app-based tap counter applications, the counting errors and counting time can be reduced dramatically.

There are certain methods to improve the use of tap counters and reduce the time spent on inventory count. Providing training on how to use tap counters and common mistakes can allow warehouse workers to save time on counting.

One common issue during physical counting is distinguishing the products that have similar looks. Appropriate labeling, color coding, marking shelves/bins can help workers count the right products without wasting time with confusion.

Free, easy and accessible

Any device that has an internet connection can access the tap counter. It works well on mobile phones, tablets, laptops and desktop computers.

There is no sign-up or registration required to use it. You don’t have to download an app and worry about another app tracking your personal data. All you have to do is navigate to our webpage.

Bye Bye physical counter

Gone are the days of carrying around a physical handheld counter.

Physical counts are just "one more thing" to carry around and store. It is much more efficient to just use your device (phone, tablet etc.) that you already have.

Not to mention the waste and environmental impact of another plastic/metal physical counter on the Earth.

Improved Order Fulfillment with Accurate Inventory Levels

The key benefit of using app-based tap counters for inventory accuracy is achieving a higher order fulfillment rate. As all businesses are customer focused, customer order fulfillment is the most common business performance indicator.

When the physical inventory of a product is less than the record in the system, customer order(s) for higher than physical products can get confirmed but the promised number of products won’t be delivered. This lowers the fulfillment rate and causes lost sales along with damage to the brand reputation.

Using app-based tap counters is a very cost-effective solution to improve inventory accuracy. Businesses can improve their profitability and fulfill their customer orders without spending long hours and high labor expenses by implementing app-based tap counters in their physical counting processes.

Exercise and fitness tracking

When working out, a tap counter can be great for keeping track of sets and repetitions of exercises or laps. There is nothing worse than being in the middle of a hard workout and then forgetting how much you have left!

Additional uses of tap counters

Curious who else would use a tap counter? Here are a few others that use it:

Inventory management, event attendance (everything from concerts to church services), fitness (like we just mentioned), productivity (keeping track of tasks completed), teaching (mathematics or to keep track of participation amongst students), science research (counting plants or birds etc.), traffic analysis, manufacturing (counting defective items), meditation (breath count), keeping score of a game and also managing crowd sizes to make sure spaces do not become too crowded.
