What are emojis?
In the digital age emojis have almost become their own language. In fact in 2015 Oxford dictionary named the π also known as the "Face with tears of joy" emoji as the word of the year.
An emoji is a type of pictogram, most frequently used in text messages and social media apps. It was added to the Unicode Standard under symbols to make it more compatible across different devices.
Emojis add a fun flair to writing. After all, itβs easier to convey all kinds of emotion with emojis as opposed to a plain block of naked text.

Why use an Emoji Counter?
It's important to recognize that certain types of writing call for different levels of emoji use. Generally speaking, emojis are only used for casual writing. For example, a text message to a friend might contain lots of emojis whereas an academic research paper should not contain any.
As emojis can be fun to incorporate into your writing it can be easy to get carried away and use too many. Especially when most smartphones automatically suggest emojis to you based on your text. Our emoji counter is useful to keep track of them and prevent overuse.
Emojis count as multiple characters
Keep in mind that emojis do not count as only one character. This is due to the fact that they are encoded differently in the Unicode system.
Some emojis contain Zero-Width Joiners which have invisible characters that help combine multiple emojis into one. For example, the "flexed biceps medium-light skin tone" emoji πͺπΌ combines both a bicep emoji and a skin color emoji into one emoji. A character counter will still count it as multiple characters.
