It is seen as a common alternative to Microsoft Word.

Have you ever wondered if there was a sentence counter in Google Docs? It seems like such a popular word processor would have one. However…

Right now there is no way to see how many sentences there are in Google Docs.

Microsoft Word also does not have that feature.

Luckily, there are a few alternatives.

Use an online sentence counter

You can search Google for a website that counts the number of sentences in a text.

The online Sentence Counter that we recommend is this our very own sentence counter.

We created it ourselves. It will tell you exactly how many sentences are in your text along with the average words per sentence, and average characters per sentence (metrics that other online sentence counters don’t have).

To use our sentence counter, or any other sentence counter you find on the internet you will need to copy your text in your Google Docs document and paste it into the sentence counter.

To copy your text in Google Docs you can go to Edit then Select all. After the text is selected, you can go to Edit then Copy or you can simply right-click the selected text and select Copy.

Finally, go to the online sentence counter, right-click the text-box and click Paste.

The sentence counter will then update the sentence count.

Estimate the number of sentences in Google Docs via the Word Count feature

You can use the Word Count feature to get a rough estimate of the number of sentences in your text. The average sentence contains 15 words, so you can simply divide the number of words by 15 to get your sentence count estimate.

To find the number of words in a Google Doc, simply go to Tools and then Word Count. The word count will be displayed here. For a more detailed explanation of how to find the word and character count in Google Docs read our in-depth guide here.

Again, simply take the word count and divide it by 15 to get your estimate.

For example, let’s say your essay is 750 words. 750 divided by 15 equals 50. So the estimate in this case would be 50 sentences.

This will give you a rough estimate of the sentence count. Unfortunately, it will not be an exact number especially if your text contains lots of short sentences or long sentences. For an exact sentence count you will need to use our sentence counter as described above.

Manually count the number of sentences

Of course you can also count how many sentences there are by hand.

To do this, look for sentence-ending punctuation like a period, exclamation point, or question mark, and keep a tally of how many you find. Keep in mind that a period doesn’t always end a sentence, it can be used for things like Mr., Mrs., a.m., p.m., etc.

The downside of this method is that you may take a while to count all the sentences. It is also more prone to human errors.

Add line numbers to your doc

Maybe you don’t need to count the number of sentences in your Google Docs document but you want to count the number of lines. You can count the number of lines by adding line numbers to the document.

To do this, go to Tools, then Line numbers and click the checkbox that says Show line numbers.

Now your document will contain numbers on the left side of the page at the start of each new line.

Alternatively, you can use our line counter that will count all the lines in your text and display them in a table.

Conclusion

To wrap things up, there is no sentence count feature in Google Docs.

As for some alternatives, you can search Google for an online sentence counter (the best option), estimate the sentence count based on the number of words, or manually count the sentences by hand. There is also an option to add line numbers to your document in case you need to count the number of lines.

We hope this solved your problem of counting sentences in Google Docs.

Bonus

Just for fun we added the above article to our online sentence counter.

The above article has 42 sentences, 15.6 average words per sentence, and 86.7 characters per sentence. Not including the title and headings.

The 15.6 average words per sentence of this article is very close to the 15-word average sentence length that we recommend for estimating sentences based on the word count.

Go take a look at our sentence counter.

Which U.S. state’s capital has the longest name? https://charactercounter.com/blog/state-capital-longest-name/ Fri, 29 Dec 2023 20:26:58 +0000 https://charactercounter.com/blog/?p=1510 Read more]]> Welcome back to “What’s In a Name”. Today’s number of note is 50. 50 what? 50 Vice Presidents? Not quite. 50 states? Closer. The state capitals then? Bingo. Let’s look into the state capitals today and which ones have the longest and shortest names.

Longest U.S. state capital names

There’s a tie for capital cities with the longest names. Jefferson City in Missouri and Salt Lake City in Utah come in first with 14 characters.

1) Jefferson City (14 characters long)

Jefferson City sits comfortably along the Missouri River with a population of around 43,000 people, making it the 15th most populous city in the state, with St. Louis being the first.

It straddles Cole and Callaway Counties.

Where does it’s name come from? It’s named for the third president of the U.S., Thomas Jefferson.

If you are into wine, it sits on the western side of what is known as the Missouri Rhineland, a major wine-producing region of the Midwest.

Lincoln University also calls Jefferson City home, an HBCU founded in 1866 by two African-American regiments of the Union army.

1) Salt Lake City (14 characters long)

Salt Lake City sits within what is known as the Great Basin, one of only two major cities within the region alongside Reno, Nevada. It was founded originally as Great Salt Lake City for the body of water it sits near, but by the middle of the 19th Century the “Great” was dropped.

Early Mormon settlers led by Brigham Young, fleeing religious persecution in the East, founded the city, which has grown to be the most populated city in Utah with nearly 200,000 people.

It is also home to the largest Mormon Temple, Salt Lake Temple. The temple sits in view of beautiful mountain landscapes, which is also where people from all over the world go to ski and snowboard, which was on display in 2002 for the Winter Olympics.

1) Oklahoma City (14 characters long)

The city with the second longest name is Oklahoma City. So far, it’s the largest of the capital cities that we’ve looked at with about 687,000 people. That makes it the largest city in the state, and bringing it into the top 20 most populated cities within the entire country.

It’s a thriving industrial city with one of the world’s biggest markets for livestock.

The city actually sits on top of a large oil deposit, so oil derricks can be seen around the capital’s landscaping.

The city was founded during the famous Oklahoma settler rush in 1889, and within hours it grew to 10,000 residents.

Due to it’s location in Tornado Alley, Oklahoma City has also been hit by 13 tornadoes, 11 of which were EF4s or higher.

3) Indianapolis (12 characters long)

Indianapolis comes to us in third place with 12 characters. Situated in the middle of the state, the city supports a population of nearly 1,000,000 people, making it into the top 15 most populated cities in the country.

It’s best known for the world’s largest single-day sporting event, the Indianapolis 500. It’s also host to one of the biggest board gaming conventions known as GenCon. Of the capitals we’ve looked at so far, it’s also home to the most professional sports teams with the NFL team the Colts, and the NBA team the Pacers.

4) Little Rock, Tallahassee, Springfield, Baton Rouge and Carson City (11 characters long)

Rounding out the longest names for capitals we have a five way tie for fourth place with 11 characters. That’s shared by Little Rock, Arkansas, Tallahassee, Florida, Springfield, Illinois, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Carson City, Nevada.

U.S. Capital Cities with the Shortest Names

Moving on to the capitals with the fewest characters, there’s actually a three-way tie for first place between Dover, Delaware, Boise, Idaho, and Salem, Oregon.

Dover (5 characters)

One of the oldest cities we’ve looked at so far, Dover was founded by William Penn as the court town for Kent County back in 1683. It was actually not the first capital of the state, the capital originally being New Castle.

The capital was moved to Dover due to its centralized location within the state in 1777, and it provided a safe haven from British raids on the Delaware River.

Delaware became the first state to ratify the U.S. Constitution, so Dover was the site of the first ratification of the U.S. Constitution.

The name derives from the region in England famous for it’s white cliffs.

Compared to the other capitals we’ve looked at, Dover comes in last with the fewest residents: a tiny 39,000.

Boise (5 characters)

Boise, Idaho is the most populated city within Idaho with a population around 235,000 people, and it sits nestled in the mountains at about 2,700 feet above sea level.

The origin of the name is uncertain. There are different accounts as to where the name comes from, one being a Captain Bonneville in the U.S. army. According to his record, he came to an overlook of the valley with a view of the Boise River Valley. Supposedly a French guide yelled “Les bois!” meaning “The Woods!” and the name was born.

Another account credits it to French trappers who called the region “La rivière boisée”, meaning “the wooded river.”

Some other interesting bit about the city include Boise State University’s football field, with it’s famous blue field, and the city is a sister city with Guernica in Spain. Guernica is well known for being the focus of one of Pablo Picasso’s paintings.

Salem (5 characters)

Finally, we have Salem, Oregon. The population of the city is around 175,000 people, and has been the seat of the state since it was a territory back in 1851. It is the third largest city in the state.

When it was settled, the natives in the region had called the area Chim-i-ki-ti, which means “meeting or resting place”, and similar to Boise, it has a few possible origins for the name. A William H. Wilson suggested it be an anglicized version of the Hebrew word for hello or peace, Shalom.

Another source claims the President of the town’s trustees, a Reverend David Leslie, suggested the last five letters of Jerusalem. It’s also possible it was named after the famous town in Massachusetts, and David Leslie was educated there.

There are several notable people from Salem, one in particular being Frank Herbert, the author of the classic science fiction novel Dune.

Who is the Greek God with the Longest Name? https://charactercounter.com/blog/greek-god-longest-name/ Fri, 29 Dec 2023 07:15:12 +0000 https://charactercounter.com/blog/?p=1513 Read more]]> Twelve gods and goddesses used to live on the top of Mount Olympus. Their disputes, their quarrels, their passions and their obsession with interfering in human life are the main characteristics that distinguish them in relation to other gods. They behaved as if they weren’t gods. They had a tendency to experience tender loves, to fight each other and to hatch out plans, while they were immersed in any kind of sins.

Of these twelve gods and goddesses, Hephaestus has the longest name measuring 10 letters long. But who was Hephaestus, and why was he important? And who were the Ancient Greeks and what they believed?

Quick Background on the Ancient Greeks

Ancient Greeks used to believe in many deities, as they tried to explain all the natural phenomenons and the chaos of the universe through human nature.

However, the twelve gods and goddesses who were the most famous and the center of the ancient Greek religion were Zeus, the father of gods and the sky and thunder god, Hera who was Zeus’ wife, Demetra the Greek goddess of agriculture, Poseidon the god of the sea, Hades the god of the dead, light, music, poetry, healing and prophecy, Artemis the goddess of hunting, Aphrodite the goddess of beauty and passion, Ares the god of war, Hermes the god of wealth, trade, thieves and travelers and of course Hephaestus the god of…well keep reading to find out.

Who were the parents of Hephaestus?

Zeus and his wife Hera had many children and one of them was Hephaestus. However, Hesiod mentioned that Hera gave birth to Hephaestus on her own without Zeus being part of the conception, as Hera wanted to take revenge for Zeus giving birth to Athena. Moreover, Homer in Odyssey and Iliad added that there wasn’t evidence that Zeus was the father of Hephaestus. There are so many assumptions and theories about his roots, but what matters is that Hephaestus was equal to the other Greek gods and one of the most powerful ones.

Hephaestus’s Childhood

However, Hephaestus didn’t always have a place among the other gods. When he was an infant, Hera threw him from Olympus, as he was deformed and ugly. He fell into the sea and he became lame.

However, two goddesses, Thetis and Evrynomi took care of him and they raised him for nine years. When he grew up, he immediately set up his first blacksmith shop at the bottom of the Aegean sea where he used to make artifacts for Thetis and Evrynomi.

These artifacts were so beautiful that it is assumed that Hera asked and learned that they were made by her despised son, Hephaestus. Consequently, she brought him back to Mount Olympus where she gave him a new blacksmith shop and the beautiful Aphrodite as his wife.

Hephaestus was the god of Fire

Hephaestus is the god of fire and blacksmith and his name itself means lit, as it derives from the ancient Greek word “ἧφθαι”.

Generally, he is the deity of fire in all its forms and uses, such as a lightning in the sky, a volcano on earth and as an inner human flame of creation and inspiration. Hephaestus himself had mastered every art related to fire and he devoted his life to making exquisite artifacts for the gods and goddesses and weapons for some of the human-beings.

In general, Hephaestus appeared to have lived a life full of difficulties, as it is clear that he wasn’t loved or even accepted from his mother, while his wife cheated on him with Ares, the god of war on their marital bed. However, he was clever enough to trap them in a thin golden net and expose them in front of the other gods.

On top of that, he was thrown from Olympus again in a later incident. This time, it was Zeus who did it, as Hephaestus tried to help his mother when hanging from the celestial dome. Hera had to serve her sentence because she had sent a storm against Herculis.

To disobey the orders of Zeus was punishable too, so Hephaestus got expelled from Olympus and he fell on the island Lemnos where Synthians found him exhausted and with both legs broken. Their hospitality and care made Lemnos the favorite place of Hephaestus and that’s the reason why he made the decision to stay there on the mount Mosichlon where he rebuilt his blacksmith shop.

Concluding remarks about Hephaestus

In conclusion, Hephaestus can be described as hard-working, caring, but unfortunate. Furthermore, one may think that he is a perfectionist, too, as his artifacts were great and enviable.

Among his best was the clay woman, Pandora, whom Zeus gave as a wife to Epimetheus in order to avenge him, as his brother Prometheus insulted him by stealing the fire.

Hephaestus was an interesting god, and with a name 10 letters long had the longest name of the 12 gods and goddesses, beating Aphrodite by one letter.

What is the capital city in Europe with the longest name? https://charactercounter.com/blog/capital-city-europe-longest-name/ Fri, 29 Dec 2023 04:28:46 +0000 https://charactercounter.com/blog/?p=1504 Read more]]> Have you ever wondered what European capital cities have the longest names? If so, let’s hop on a journey to discover just that and, perhaps, some facts you have never considered.

1) Andorra La Vella – 16 characters

Andorra La Vella belongs to one of the seven parishes of the Principality of Andorra and is home to the tiniest parliament in Europe: 42 members maximum and 28 minimum.

It is one of the oldest countries in the world; it was founded in 1278 and has never taken part in a war.

With an average altitude of 1,050 meters, this city is also the highest-altitude capital on the continent. Here, and all over the country too, Catalan is the official language. It is the only country in the world where Catalan is the official language, but its citizens often speak other languages like French and Spanish.

Over half of the residents are immigrants. Many digital nomads, including YouTubers, move there to decrease their tax burden since the top income tax is 10%.

The official currency is the euro.

The city has an oceanic climate. In other words, summer days are warm and nights are cool, whereas winters are cold and snowy.

Given its geographical position, Catalonia and France have influenced its cuisine. A unique dish is cargols, consisting of snails with olive oil, aioli, and salt.

2) Vatican City – 12 characters

The Vatican City is the home to the Pope and the most important place on Earth for the Roman Catholic Church. Despite its rich architecture and influence on Christianity, the country became a sovereign state in 1929.

It is the tiniest country in the world in terms of area (0.44 square km) and population (around 800 residents). However, it has the highest crime rate because of pickpocketers and plain thieves going after innocent tourists.

It is the only country where Latin is the official language, and there is even an ATM with instructions in this language.

The form of government is an absolute elective theocratic monarchy.

The Vatican is the only World Heritage country. Interestingly, it has the shortest railway and the highest per capita wine intake.

3) Bratislava – 10 characters

The capital of Slovakia has a rich story as multiple civilizations, and world powers have settled here (Celts and Romans, as well as Nazis and Communists).

The city borders both Austria and Hungary.

The Castle is the most popular site of interest, as it looks over the entire city and has experienced many architectural and aesthetic modifications. The castle’s Rennaisance, Gothic and Baroque traces are noticeable.Other beautiful monuments are Saint Elizabeth’s Church and Saint Martin’s Cathedral.

The city is close to the two capital cities of their neighbouring states: Vienna and Budapest.

The local food uses pork, rice and cheese as its main ingredients, and some of the most famous dishes are sheep’s cheese gnocchi and potato dumplings. Another compelling and novel food is the sweet poppyseed pasta, a fusion of Italian pasta and traditional Slovak ingredients.

3) Copenhagen – 10 characters

This capital is Scandinavia’s largest city with a population of almost 1.4 million people. Vikings would settle here and embark on new trips back in the day.

Bishop Absalom was the founder of this beautiful city in 1167. He left his mark not only by promoting Christianity, the most popular religion in the country but also by building a bastion and the Christiansborg Castle that faces the Danish Parliament.

The city has gone through many ups and downs, being neutral in WWI and occupied in WWII, today it is one of the most prosperous cities in Europe.

It is popular for its canals, fantastic food and beer breweries as well as some places of interest such as the Tivoli Gardens and Nyhavn. On top of that, Copenhagen is considered one of the happiest cities on Earth.

3) Luxembourg – 10 characters

A melting pot of cultures, the City of Luxembourg belongs to the country of the same name.

It is one of the wealthiest cities in the world, and one of the leading business and financial centers, although its population is barely over 100,000 residents, making up around 25 % of the country’s population.

Most of the city’s workforce is reported live in one of the neighbouring countries. With a minimum wage of €1,923, it also has the highest cost of living in the European Union.

Many foreigners live here, but the official languages are French, German and Luxembourgish. Despite this, English is widely used too.

Belair is one of its neighbors.

The city is also known for having the restaurant Chiggeri, with the world’s most extensive wine offer.

3) San Marino – 10 characters

Like Vatican City, Italy surrounds this tiny state, and Catholicism is the most widespread religion. However, the official language of San Marino is Italian.

Surprisingly, the most populated city in the country is Serravalle (over 10,000 residents), whereas San Marino City has less than 5,000.

Both the city and country are named after Saint Marinus, a stonemason born on an island called Rab, located in today’s Croatia. He founded the country in 310 AD, making it the most ancient state.

Like other microstates like Andorra, Monaco or Vatican City, the official currency is the euro, even though San Marino is not an EU member. Despite that similarity, the cost of living is not that astronomical. In fact, it is the 15th richest region in the world, but a one-bedroom downtown rental could be less than €600.

Its gastronomy is mostly Italian-inspired, and pasta is, of course, a staple in the diet of the Sammarinese. One of the traditional dishes is pasatelli, a type of pasta made of breadcrumbs, eggs, nutmeg and Parmesan cheese.

Bonus city: Nur-sultan – 10 characters

Although Nur-sultan is technically located in Asia, it’s country Kazakhstan is considered to be European, so we will include this city in our list.

Previously called Astana, Nur-sultan was founded in 1998 and belongs to the transcontinental country of Kazakhstan.

It is partly located in Eastern Europe and mainly in Central Asia.

This capital city has a lot to offer, despite not being that popular. Nur-sultan is one of the coldest capital cities on Earth, but the country is making huge efforts to warmly welcome nomads from Eastern Europe and Turks from the Far East.

The most surprising feature is its beautiful colourful architecture. Since Kazakhstan is a Muslim majority country, Nur-sultan’s Mosques are also great places to visit.

The city’s gastronomy has meat as a staple because the country’s weather is challenging, and the food must keep them warm and energized enough. For instance, two of its most popular dishes, Palau and Kuirdak, contain lamb or beef. Horse meat is also traditional.

European capitals with the shortest names

So far, we have discussed the capital cities with the longest names. But what about the capitals with the shortest names? Let’s take a look at them.

Kyiv – 4 characters

The capital of Ukraine prides itself on having a rich history and several cultural landmarks.

Around 1,500 years ago, this city became the capital of Kyivan Rus, a power in Eastern Ukraine.

In 988 Prince Vladimir converted Rus to Christianity, making it one of the most famous Christian cities on Earth. Its religious architecture is fantastic, and St. Andrew’s Church is an excellent instance.

Aside from that, Kyiv is also known for its parks, museums and vibrant commercial streets. The Chornobyl Museum will take you back to the tragic days of the Ukrainian people, and the bohemian Andriyivsky Descent where you can find art galleries, cafés and street artists.

Although Ukraine has belonged to the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and Russia and has been a Soviet Republic, the city of Kyiv has not lost its charm and, still to this day, it effortlessly showcases the various traces of its history.

The traditional dishes are diverse and full of flavor. For example, Borsch requires many ingredients such as meat, beetroot and garlic. In the past, it had 30 ingredients!

Oslo – 4 characters

According to The Wall Street Journal, the capital of Norway is the new capital of Nordic cool.

Like other Scandinavian cities, the Vikings founded Oslo. However, its previous names are Christiania or Kristiania and it has not always been the capital until 1905.

Before that year, the country was not independent, and it belonged to Denmark and Sweden. Today the city enjoys much prosperity, an excellent cultural offer and a combination of urban and natural landscapes.

Oslo is famous for its resident’s bike usage, and it takes very little time to get to the countryside. Many hotels offer bike rentals too.

The art scene is also spectacular thanks to museums like Astrup Fearnley and the MUNCH.

The gastronomical offer is stunning too. Its most popular food is smoked salmon, of course, but locals also consume other dishes Smalahove (sheep head) and brunost (a cheese-made product).

Riga – 4 characters

The capital of Latvia has a bit of turbulent history. Vikings, Germans, Russians and Polish attacked the city. Especially, Germany controlled the country until 1918, when Estonia and Lithuania gained their independence too.

Apart from being under Communist rule in the last century, in the 11th century, it was a German trade centre, given its strategic position.

Firstly their citizens were converted to Roman Catholicism, but in the 16th century, Protestantism became more prominent.

One-third of Latvia’s residents live in Riga.

The city offers a vibrant nightlife, exquisite local food and even a UNESCO World Heritage downtown filled with history and medieval churches. Some places of interest are the House of Blackheads and the Museum of Occupations.

Examples of traditional dishes are rasol, a potato salad with layers of meat or fish, and grey peas, which are believed to bring good luck. It is also believed that Latvians eat around 50 kg of rye bread a year.

Rome – 4 characters

Rome is a city filled with history. It is next to Vatican City, home to the Colosseum and many Western Civilization treasures.

This city started small but it became the center of the ancient Roman Empire, dominating much of Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.

Rome was indeed a place for emperors. Today it is a famous destination offering mouth-watering gastronomy, stunning monuments, and tons of cultural activities. Some of its sites of interest are the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon and Trastevere.

There is a little superstition around the Trevi Fountain: if you toss a coin there, you will come back to Rome; if you throw two, you will fall in love with an attractive Italian; if you throw three, you will marry that person.

In terms of food, no detailed explanation is needed. For example, you will be able to enjoy pasta, pizza, focaccia and carpaccio.

That is it for today’s article. Have you learned something new or even fun about these cities? Did you not know about any of these? I hope you found this information compelling and inspiring for a potential journey too.

What is the Google review character limit? https://charactercounter.com/blog/google-review-character-limit/ Fri, 29 Dec 2023 04:21:57 +0000 https://charactercounter.com/blog/?p=1500 Read more]]> The official Google review character limit is 4096 characters.

Remember, characters can include spaces, symbols, letters and numbers. One emoji will count as two characters.

However, there is a small caveat.

There are instances where more than 4096 characters are allowed.

How spaces affect the Google review character limit

Extra spaces at the beginning and end of your text increase the character limit.

For example, let’s the following text:

” Once upon a time …”

The three spaces at the beginning would increase the character limit from 4096 to 4099. Or if there were five spaces at the beginning it would increase the character limit from 4096 to 4101.

The same goes for spaces at the end. Take the following text for example:

“… The End. “

Since there are two spaces at the end of the text, it would increase the character limit by two.

However, most people don’t put spaces at the very beginning or very end of their text so this shouldn’t be a problem.

But in the event that you do have extra spaces at the beginning or end of your text, it’s actually a helpful feature to increase the limit. (If you accidentally had an extra 100 spaces at the end of your text, you wouldn’t want that to count towards your 4096 character limit.)

Overview of Google reviews

Google reviews are the lifeblood of many businesses. Often times they can be the determining factor in whether a potential customer decides to purchase a product/service from a company.

Since Google is one of the most popular sites to leave reviews on, it is important that businesses try to keep their reviews as positive as possible.

As a customer of your favorite business, leaving a positive review can earn the respect of that business. Since the majority of people don’t bother leaving reviews, actually leaving one will make you stand out as a customer and make it so that businesses will want to do more business with you in the future.

Users can filter the Google reviews by different categories such as “most relevant”, “newest”, “highest” and “lowest”.

They can also filter the reviews by certain keywords people often mention. For example, if the business is a Mexican restaurant and people often mention tacos you can filter the reviews to only include reviews mentioning tacos.

In order to leave a Google review you do need a Google account. If you use Gmail all you need to do is log in to your account and you will be able to leave a review. Keep in mind that your full name will be displayed publicly on the review.

Conclusion

We hope you enjoyed our article on the Google review character limit. To reiterate, the Google review character limit is 4096 characters. But if there are spaces at the very beginning or end of your text those will not be counted towards the 4096.

If you need to check the actual character count of your Google Review please use the character counter on our homepage. It also checks word count, space count, letter count and more.

What is the Xbox gamertag character limit? https://charactercounter.com/blog/xbox-gamertag-character-limit/ Fri, 29 Dec 2023 03:25:42 +0000 https://charactercounter.com/blog/?p=1497 Read more]]> This article is going to tell you everything you need to know about the Xbox gamertag, with the main focus being on the gamertag character limit.

We will also touch on other areas such as whether special characters are allowed, options for increasing the length of a gamertag, the types of characters allowed in the Xbox gamertag and whether you can use invisible ones, any differences on the gamertag between Xbox versions, and finally, ideas for choosing a gamertag.

What is an Xbox gamertag?

The Xbox gamertag is your unique alias that you use when using Xbox’s services such as playing games and interacting with the online community.

It’s made up of a short name and picture, and you can also include a little bit of information to enable you to represent yourself.

Also included with your gamertag is your gamer-score, which is the score you get for unlocking in-game achievements.

Xbox gamertag character limit

Xbox gamertags are limited to a maximum of 12 characters. These characters are in Unicode format and includes an auto-generated suffix (if the gamertag is already in use). The good news is that 13 different alphabets / 200 languages are supported.

If you’ve been able to make a unique gamertag which isn’t otherwise in use across the platform then you don’t need to worry about suffixes, however, if the gamertag you do choose already exists you will be given a unique code (suffix) which helps differentiate you from other users with the same gamertag.

It’s also important to note the minimum character limit is 3. No gamertags are allowed to have less than this amount otherwise they won’t comply with Microsoft’s rules and regulations and therefore be invalid.

Microsoft implemented the changes to enable players to have more choice in expressing themselves in their native language. Something interesting to note here though is that if you already had a gamertag pre-2019 then this will remain unchanged unless you decide you wish to change it.

Are special characters allowed in a gamertag?

No, Xbox players are not able to create a gamertag with special characters included. Microsoft states that to enable a gamertag to be valid it must be between 3-12 characters long, start with a letter, only include letters and numbers, however spaces are allowed.

Is it possible to get a 15-character gamertag?

In the newest versions of the Xbox since the 360 it’s only possible to get a gamertag with a 12-character limit. This rule is applied to all consoles such as Xbox One, Xbox Series X etc. The only possible way of getting a 15-character Xbox gamertag is if you have access to an Xbox 360.

What characters are allowed in a gamertag?

Xbox’s terms are very simple in what they allow people to use in a gamertag with these being letters, numbers and spaces – no special characters are allowed, and you should avoid using anything that is likely to cause offence to others.

Is it possible to have invisible characters in a gamertag?

According to the rules set out by Microsoft to make a gamertag valid, it must be between 3 and 12 characters long, cannot contain special characters or double spaces and must start with a letter. From these reasons given by Microsoft it would therefore not be possible to have invisible characters in a gamertag if you want it to be valid and comply with their rules and regulations.

Are there different limits for different versions of Xbox?

Yes, there is a way around the 12-character limit that has been applied to newer versions of Xbox, however it’s only possible to get a longer gamertag if you have access to an Xbox 360 which then permits you to get a gamertag which can be up to 15 characters long.

Ideas for choosing a gamertag

The concept for choosing a gamertag should be something that will represent yourself in a good way, but still stand out from the crowd whilst using the Xbox platform.

It’s also quite an important decision – most of us have known someone who set up aa ridiculously silly email address in their younger years and have had to live with the shame of giving it out in certain situations (unless they of course got themselves a more grown up one😉).

This is the same with the Xbox gamertag – it’s going to represent you on the platform for a long time, so you want something that is unique, identifies you to family and friends, is definitely not rude, and finally something you are happy to use for a long time.

When I chose mine, I was happy to use my first name, but didn’t really want my surname appearing so I changed it slightly so it still sounded the same but appeared differently, then I also added my age at the time so I knew when I started playing Xbox, which was 15 years ago now – a whole load of gamer achievements unlocked and hours of fun along the way!

Other options for choosing a gamertag include using a nickname that you’re well known by, combining your name or nickname with the name of a famous person or video game character, throw a personal hobby into the mix e.g., “FootyMadMike”, or try and scare your opponents into submission with an intimidating name such as “Death Sniper”.

Changing a gamertag

Changing a gamertag is free for the first time you do it, however there is a charge of $9.99 every time you do it after the first time.

Conclusion

We hope that this article has given you all the information on Xbox gamertags you’ve been looking for and will also help to inspire you to create a new one if that’s something you’re looking to do.

We’d also like to wish you many happy hours gaming across the platform and maybe we’ll bump into each other on Xbox Live one day – keep playing those games and unlocking the achievements for your profile!

What is the month with the longest name? https://charactercounter.com/blog/longest-month-name/ Fri, 29 Dec 2023 03:19:31 +0000 https://charactercounter.com/blog/?p=1494 Read more]]> September has the longest month name at 9 letters long, beating out February, November and December that all contain 8 letters each, with May being the shortest month name at 3 letters. But there’s a lot more to September than its 9 letters. Here’s what you should know about the month that issues in the first day of Fall.

The Numerology of September: The Power of Nine

September has nine letters in it. It’s also the ninth month of the year.

Numerologically speaking, ‘nine’ is a power number. Out of all the single-digit numbers, it appears last. It can represent both endings and beginnings, a surrendering to inevitable completions and an opportunity for growth through something new.

This may be why in September there are more births than on any other month and contains several of the most common birthdays.

It may also be why, agriculturally speaking, September is historically known as The Month of Harvest. The Harvest Moon, which is a full moon that occurs close to the solar equinox frequently falls in September. What is a harvest if not a symbol of culmination and completion, a time when we literally reap what we sow?

The origins of September

Ever heard the joke, “Why is six so scared? Because 9 ate 7.” Well, when it comes to the origins of September, that’s exactly what happened.

Our lives are regulated by the Roman calendar, which is why the word ‘September’ comes from the Latin, ‘septem’ meaning seven. Why you might ask, would the ninth month of the year be called ‘Seven’? (Could those Romans not count?) The short answer is that until Julius Caesar’s calendar reform introduced in 45 B.C (which added two extra months to the year) the Romans had only ten months in their calendar starting with Spring on 1 March, which made September the seventh month. And when January and February were added, and September became the ninth month, the name September stuck.

Here’s a fun fact: September is spelled with 9 total letters but with 7 different letters — numbers which curiously correspond to both its position in the calendar (9th month) and to its root meaning (septem). No other month can do this trick!

Special Days in September

September is jam-packed with a laughable list of national days so arbitrary as to be memorable. A few of the most random are:

National Happy Cat Month (which begs the question: “How do felines feel the rest of the year?”)

September 2: World Coconut Day

September 19: International Talk Like a Pirate Day (“Arr Matey, I’d rather walk the plank!”)

September 24: National Punctuation Day (Time to dot your I’s and cross your T’s.)

But the month also marks some poignant days genuinely worth diarizing:

September 8: International Literacy Day raises awareness of literacy as a basic human right and an important part of the UN’s Sustainable Developmental Goals agenda.

September 10: World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD), organized by the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) and co-sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO).

September 11: 9/11 Remembrance Day pays tribute to those killed or injured in the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack.

September 17: Labour Day, formally known as Constitution Day and Citizenship Day, commemorates the signing on September 17, 1787, of the American Constitution.

The Astrology of September: Born under the star signs of Virgo and Libra

Those who celebrate their birthday (or ‘solar return’) in the month of September are born either under the star sign of Virgo (up to the 23rd of September) or under the star sign of Libra (after the 23rd of September).

Virtuous Virgos

Virgo is an earth sign historically represented by the goddess of wheat and agriculture. (September is Harvest Month after all.)

Virgos are detail-orientated, logical, practical systematic and deeply rooted in the material world. They are also perfectionists, always striving to upskill through diligent and consistent effort.

Virgo is ruled by Mercury, the planetary messenger and God of communication. The Virgo mind operates like a computer; resourceful, problem-solving, organizing chaos into clear concepts. Virgos use their high intellect to provide workable solutions and to improve broken systems.

If a Virgo has a weakness, it’s the need to be meticulous in everything they do. The challenge for Virgos is to recognize the beauty in imperfection and to accept that flaws are not the same as faults.

Above all, Virgos are driven to help. Selfless to the point of being self-sacrificing, they are kind, supportive friends and loyal lovers.

Lovely Librans

Libra is an air element and is represented by the scales, a symbol that speaks to the Libran pursuit of equilibrium and harmony in all things. Librans love symmetry. Ruled by Venus, the planet of love, they are the aesthetes of the zodiac and are happiest surrounded by beauty.

Nothing is more important to a Libran than relationships. They seek out harmonious partnerships and are drawn to people with elegance and personal style. Physical appearances are important to Librans.

If Librans have a weakness, it’s that their open-mindedness and need to keep the peace at all times can make them indecisive and ambivalent. Librans are challenged to block out all external opinions so that they can hear the soft voice of their own intuition.

As for their greatest strength, Librans are masters of conflict resolution, able to navigate their way through even the most fraught social situation by effortlessly turning on the charm.

“Hey, hey, hey, do you remember? dancin’ in September…”

Combine Virgo, ruled by Mercury the planet of communication and Libra, ruled by Venus, the planet of love and beauty and it’s no wonder that Earth Wind & Fire wrote a song called September: “… say, do you remember? dancin’ in September; golden dreams were shiny days…”

Groucho Marx once said, “My favorite poem is the one that starts, ‘Thirty days hath September’ because it actually tells you something.”

But the numerology, astrology and symbolism of September have a lot more to say: September, nine letters long; the season of earth-bound Virgo and air-sign Libra; the time of love, attraction, wisdom, harvest, completions, births and new beginnings, adds up to a lot more than the sum total of its 30 days.

What is the name of the longest month in other languages?

There are five Romance languages that when translated, each have a very similar sounding word for September. But will this translated word for September still be the longest month name in that language? Let’s find out.

In Spanish, September is translated as Septiembre.

In French, September is translated as Septembre.

In Italian, September is translated as Settembre.

In Romanian, September is translated as Septembrie.

In Portuguese, September is translated as Septiembre.

In Spanish, French, Italian, and Romanian the translated word for September in each respective language is also the longest month name.

However in Portuguese that’s not the case. The longest month name in Portuguese is Fevereiro (February) at 9 characters long beating Setembro (September), Novembro (November), Dezembro (December) at 8 characters each.

Final words about the longest month name

We hope you learned a fun fact or two about September, the month with the longest name.

What is the Longest Pokemon Name? https://charactercounter.com/blog/longest-pokemon-name/ Thu, 28 Dec 2023 19:22:37 +0000 https://charactercounter.com/blog/?p=1487 Read more]]> Some of the names bestowed upon our favorite Pokémon roll right off the tongue. Say it with us: Pikachu. The name sounds like the cutest sneeze ever heard. Or how about Squirtle? A classic, simple yet tasteful name for one of the coolest Pokémon.

Shortest Pokémon names

Some Pokémon have extremely short names, like the all powerful Mew, or the slime covered Pokémon, Muk. These names bring the Pokémon that they represent to mind right away.

It is kind of worrisome though, for the other Pokémon whose names are a little bit…too much.

It is possible that some Pokémon names are way too long, confusing, and just plain hard to say. This could hurt them in their run for popularity, up against pros like Ekans and Arbok (“Snake” and “Kobra” backwards).

For example, what about Basculegion? Sure, the biggest Pokémon fans know Basculegion is a Water-type fish Pokémon that evolves from the fallen souls of the Basculin who could not withstand the strong river currents found in the Hisui region.

But to the average Pikachu or Eevee fan, Basculegion is just another mouthful ready to be changed once caught. Let’s shine a spotlight upon the Pokémon with the longest names, lest they are forgotten to the ever expanding Pokédex.

Which Pokémon have the second longest name?

Let’s start with the Pokémon that have eleven characters in their names, the second longest character count for Pokémon names, with the longest being twelve characters.

Fletchinder

First up is Fletchinder. With a lengthy eleven characters in its name, the Fire-Bird type pokemon is not as easily recognizable as other bird Pokémon like Spearow, or Pidgey despite being entirely more interesting.

Corvisquire and Corviknight

Next up is Corvisquire and its evolution, Corviknight. These medieval inspired bird type Pokémon are based on actual birds, like the raven, which are native to Great Britain, and are based on the iconic “dark knight”. Corviknight is one of two Pokémon on this list that has the ability to Gigantamax.

Gigantamax is a type of temporary transformation that only certain Pokémon can take on. By using the Dynamax ability, newly introduced in Pokémon Sword and Shield for the Nintendo Switch, Gigantamaxed Pokémon are actually distorted in the space they occupy allowing them to appear gigantic.

Blacephalon

While this next Pokémon’s appearance doesn’t do itself any favors, its name won’t either. Codenamed UB Burst, Blacephalon was first introduced in Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon. This Pokémon is one of the nine extradimensional Ultra Beasts.

The Ultra Beasts hold knowledge well beyond human capabilities. Ultra Beast Pokémon like Blacephalon cannot be caught by any mere Pokéball. A Beast Ball will be required, unless anyone has any Master balls just lying around. Humanoid in design, this neon blue and pink clown-like Pokémon is stockpiled with nightmare fuel.

Barraskewda

Barraskewda is pretty much just a barracuda, and one of the more recognizable Pokémon on this list, as it is common in nature, and easily obtainable in Pokemon Sword and Shield, as well as Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. A favorite of the fisherman, the spearfish like Pokémon can be quite dangerous in a battle.

Centiskorch

Centiskorch is a giant fiery centipede. It is the tallest of all the Bug-type Pokémon and is quite possibly based on the Orphnaeus brevilabiatus, more commonly known as the fire centipede. The fire centipede is a bioluminescent centipede commonly found in Japan and Taiwan.

Centiskorch is the second Pokémon on this list that has the ability to Gigantamax, which blows the Bug-type Pokémon up to dragon-like scope allowing for a menacing centipedal experience.

Polteageist

Polteageist easily takes the cake as the cutest Pokémon on this list, and would go great with a slice too! This Ghost-type teapot Pokémon is evolved from its tea cup predecessor, Sinistea.

Polteageist is ornate in its design, and is overflowing with a possessed black tea ready to drag its opponent’s from battle straight into Teatime, an ability only Polteageist is able to use.

Stonjourner

Stonjourner, while not a bad idea for a rock band name, is actually a Rock-type Pokémon that looks like a piece of Stonehenge got up and started to walk around. While entirely capable of crushing many of the Pokémon that cross its path, this monumental Pokémon actually prefers a simple life of basking in the sun, waiting for the one day of the year where it can gather with the others of its kind to form a massive circle.

Longest Mega Pokemon Names

Before we unveil the Pokémon with the longest name, let’s establish the Pokémon with the overall longest names in the “Mega” category as they also are due some credit in lengthiness.

Mega Kangaskhan: Everyone’s favorite marsupial Pokémon, was introduced during generation I, and can be Mega evolved into a massive version of itself using the Mega Stone known as Kangaskanite that’s found in the Kalos region.

There is also Mega Aerodactyl, another Kanto classic named after the Pterodactyl. An ancient and fossilized Pokémon that, once reanimated from a piece of old amber and mega evolved, takes to the skies in colossal proportions.

The Pokemon with the Longest Name is Crabominable

crabominable longest pokemon name

And without any further ado, the Pokémon with the longest name, coming in at a whopping twelve characters, it’s Crabominable. This crustaceous creature is giant in size and almost entirely covered in snow white fur.

Native to tundra-like conditions, it is able to suck the cold into its crabby claws that it can fire at its enemies like frozen torpedoes. A clear reference to the “Abominable Snowman”, this Yeti influenced Pokémon takes the crown as the Pokémon with the longest name.

Final words

Many of these Pokémon have some amazing qualities, and others really get lost in the process of The Pokémon Company pumping out brand new Pokémon.

Many that grew up playing the games in the nineties feel that the newer generations of Pokémon are just rehashed versions of their old favorites. But they forget that everyone loves Pokémon, and that newer generations are falling in love with the twenty-six year old franchise.

It’s not totally unlikely that a newer fan’s favorite pokemon is Crabominable instead of Pikachu, even if Crabominable is kind of hard to say.
