In addition to this, the utility will also reformat partitions you may have created with this utility. 2.0 How to use Head Up ______________________ Head Up is easy to use. After obtaining the answers to a few questions, the software will automatically handle all the necessary details. 2.1 Obtaining Head Up --------------------- 1.) Go to the web site http://www.us.pc.ibm.com/cdt 2.) This website contains a link to a single executable file containing all necessary Head Up software. If you cannot find the link, check under PC 300XL family of computers or under the 6588 machine types. 2.2 Running Head Up ------------------- NOTE: The Head Up software is limited in that it is only able to recognize the drive which is connected as the Master on the Primary IDE channel. 1.) Once you have obtained the executable, run it. Make sure that the files are copied onto a blank diskette. 2.) Lable the diskette. 3.) DO NOT set the write protect tab on the disk. The software needs to write information to the disk. If the software cannot do this, it will cause problems. 4.) Before proceeding any further, make sure that all important files, software applications and data are backed up from the drive you about to use Head Up on. 5.) Place the Head Up disk into the A: drive of the machine you wish to work with. Boot off of this disk. 6.) Once the software has loaded, you will see a blue screen giving you two choices. Generall, you will want to choose option number one. 7.) Once choosing option one, you will be presented with another screen asking what size you wish to make the partition. The minimum partition size is 500 MB. The maximum size is 2.0 GB. You may choose any size partition which is greater than or equal to the but less than or equal to the maximum. 8.) If you wish to specify multiple partitions, simply choose a partition size which is less than the available space. 9.) To assign all remaining space to a partition, simply hit enter. 10.) Once all space has been assigned, the software will resize the partitions and reboot the computer. 11.) After this first reboot, boot off this disk again to format the partitions. NOTE: If you do not wish to use this software to format the partitions, make sure you delete the file temp.fil before using this disk again. 12.) Upon completion of formating the drives, you are ready to follow the installation instructions for the operating system you are installing. 3.0 Trademarks and Notices ___________________________ The following terms are trademarks of the IBM Corporation in the United States or other countries or both: IBM Hard Drive Prep Utility (HDPU - Head Up) Microsoft, Windows and Windows 95 are trademarks or registered trademarks of Microsoft Corporation.
