DESCRIPTION: Easy to use web page authoring tutorials covering basic and advanced web page design. The tutorials are in HTML format so you can go through them with your web browser. If you've never created a web page before, the basic tutorial will guide you gently though basics of HTML. And, if you know the basics, the advanced tutorials will show you how to add additional features to your page. This free version contains a complete basic HTML tutorial. Additional topics (tables, forms, frames, javascript, stylesheets, etc) available with a paid site membership: http://www.pagetutor.com/membership/ THIS TUTORIAL IS FREEWARE MEMBERSHIP: PageTutor.com offers much material free of charge, but some of the best material is reserved for members only. Members also have access to ad-free pages, often expanded tutorials, and downloadable zip versions of the tutorials. Members also get a better price on the print version. Memberships are not all that expensive, you will find more information at: http://www.pagetutor.com/membership/ A PRINTED VERSION IS AVAILABLE: For $32.95 you can get the entire PageTutor series in a neatly bound printed manual. The manual comes with a companion CD containing the tutorials, tons of free clipart, electronic "coupons" for 20% off NoteTab Pro and three months free web hosting from AffordableHost. I can ship internationally and quantity discounts are available. As a nice little bonus, the CD also includes Javascript Tutor, GateKeeper and Magic Buttons. Go to http://www.pagetutor.com/membership/ for details. DISTRIBUTION/USAGE GUIDELINES: You may use and/or distribute them to your hearts content according to the guidelines below. - If you wish to translate them into another language, you can. Please keep it clear who the original author is. - If you are a teacher and you want to use them for teaching purposes, you can. If you want to print out copies for your classes, you can. (FYI: there is a printed version available) - If you want to include them on a CD with other shareware/freeware titles, you can. (I ask however that you don't simply sell it outright) - If you are a business and you wish to offer copies of PageTutor as a free bonus with your regular products, you may. - If you wish to offer this PageTutor download from your site, you are welcome to. A better option would be to simply link to my download. That way your users always get the freshest copy. - If you wish to re-post the tutorials on your own web site, you may. Guidelines are detailed below. - If, for some lame reason, you copy them verbatim and call them your own, I will have no choice but to tell Mom, and boy will you be in trouble! RE-POSTING ON THE INTERNET: If you wish to post the tutorials unaltered on your public or private server, you are welcome to. As they are, the tutorials contain advertising. Please leave those ads in place. If you must ad your own advertising, add yours in addition to what's already there. When you put the files on your server, do not make changes to the directory structure. Links within the tutorials are relative and many are generated dynamically with javascript. If you mess with the directory structure, links may not work properly. You'll notice that since v4.1 there is another directory layer - "pagetutor". This makes things easier for me. If you try to eliminate that extra layer, things will get messed up. Also, this repostable version has active Joke Break links. If you've seen any of the jokes, then you know that many are on the raunchy side. If you run a "clean" site and would rather these links not be there then you can change that easily: In the pagetutor directory there is a sub-directory named pagetutor. In that directory is a sub-directory named "tack". Within "tack" there is a file named "jokebreak.html". Open it with a text editor (DO NOT USE FRONT PAGE OR THE LIKE) and change "jokebreak = 1" to "jokebreak = 0". This will turn off the jokebreak links. REQUIREMENTS: 1) Windows95/98/NT. I've abandoned the 8.3 file naming convention. Win3x users may have some trouble with the downloadable version. They should however be able to access everything online though. I'm not that familiar with other operating systems, but I'm guessing the tutorials are still plenty useable. 2) A graphical web browser with JAVASCRIPT ENABLED (it should be enabled unless you dis-abled it ;-). Preferably Netscape Navigator 4.0 or later. MS Internet Explorer 4.0 or later will do also. If you use something other than the big two everything should still be more or less OK. Very old browsers will hit a few potholes. 3) A text editor. Notepad will do nicely for now. Windows9x users will find Notepad by clicking Start/Accessories and clicking the little blue Notepad icon. 4) A comfortable chair and an attractive member of the opposite sex to tell you how computer geeks are sexy and to rub your neck if it gets stiff. INSTRUCTIONS: Unzip and start with index.html. By default your system will probably crank up your default browser when you double click on index.html. If not, start up whatever you use for a web browser and open that file via File/Open. Alternatively you can drag & drop index.html onto your browser. Understand that sometimes getting started with a new thing is the hardest part. If you are new to computers or new to the Internet and web browsers in general, you'll just have to be patient, persistant and maybe fumble around a little at first. Everybody goes through it... you'll be fine. If you installed the zippped version, no files are copied, moved, modified or otherwise scattered about your computer. To "uninstall" these tutorials, simply delete the contents of the pagetutor directory. To uninstalled the version that has install support, just choose the "Uninstall PageTutor" icon that was placed in your Start Menu. Couldn't be simpler, eh? EMAIL: I get a lot of email asking for help on this problem or that, and I'm afraid there isn't enough time to answer them all. I do answer a few occasionally however, and they all at least hit my eyes. If you have a HTML problem, I STRONGLY reccommend you see the various FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions). As sure as a bear dumps in the woods, your question has been axed and answered before. Look in the Table of Contents for "Frequently Asked Questions". Have fun & good luck!
