Description:
a20_001.zip explains how to enable access to above DOS's limit of 640KB
of memory. It goes through the steps you need to take to correctly read
and write to the Keyboard Controller. Gate A20 controls access to the
higher areas of memory, with it disabled, all writes will just be wrapped
to the beginning of memory. So if you just want to get that extra bit of
memory in Real-Mode, want to program in 'Real-Flat-Mode' or even full
blown Protected-Mode you will need to know how to enable Gate A20.

ACCOUNT PRO
version:
AccSoft
accsoft@accsoft-ch.com
http://www.accsoft-ch.com/free.htm
Account Pro for DOS (268 KB)
(and Windows 3.1, 95/98 and NT)
Account Pro for DOS is a versatile and user-friendly accounting and finance
planning program, equally suitable for small to medium businesses,
institutions, and private users, who want to manage their own money or the
finances of an association or club. Account Pro is based on the principle of
double entry-bookkeeping. It is capable of networking, handles up to 152
client accounts, and it has a function for automatic entry of tax and
discount transactions.
Under DOS, Windows 3.1, Windows 95/98 and Windows NT Account Pro can equally
well be operated by mouse or by keyboard. Under Windows 95/98 and Windows NT
mouse operation is even possible if Account Pro is run in a window.
Comfortable Quattro Pro for DOS (for those who remember it) style pull-down
menus and context-sensitive help will also enable the accounting novice to
familiarize himself with the program rapidly and to work efficiently right
from the beginning.
Account Pro comes with a number of standard charts of accounts. These can
very easily be adapted to particular user requirements. Unneeded accounts
can be deleted and any additionally required ones can easily be inserted
anywhere in the charts.
Accounting with Account Pro is very easy. As opposed to 'normal' accounting
programs, where erroneous entries must be neutralized (canceled) and
corrected by additional entries, Account Pro allows direct correction of
such entries. Furthermore, Account Pro avoids the terms 'Debit' and 'Credit'
for data entry. Instead, an amount sign is used, which makes data entry
faster and easier. Nevertheless, the displays and printouts of Account Pro
are in accordance with normal accounting terminology.
In addition to the normal accounting capabilities, Account Pro has special
capabilities that allow efficient financial planning and forecasting. Not
only monthly budgets, but also monthly forecasts can be entered for every
expense and revenue account. Monthly and yearly planning reports facilitate
an overview of the system as a whole. With these features, realistic
forecasts of the financial result at the end of the accounting period can be
made at any time.
An accounting period in Account Pro can have a length of between two days
and one year. It can start in any month and it may overlap two calendar
years.
The program's data capacities are as follows:
- 152 accounting systems
- 528 accounts per system
- 16,300 (double entry) transactions per system and business year
- 18 standard transactions

Algol60 compiler and interpreter (264 KB)
A compact portable system for MSDOS
An economic use of resources is achieved by compiling the Algol source into
code for a virtual machine, which is implemented in assembly language. The
complete system has two compilers and two virtual machines, an integer only
subset and the full version. Both compilers are written in the Algol subset,
the subset compiler is self compiling. In order to make it as small and fast
as possible, the subset virtual machine interpreter has very little error
checking. Devoid of floating point, nested procedure declarations, stack
checking and a few other things, the subset compiler is ultra lean. The full
compiler at 17K bytes is only just larger than the full virtual machine
interpreter. The output of the subset compiler is code for the subset
virtual machine, but expressed in assembly language. The compilers are one
pass and very fast. They use the method of recursive descent.
In education, the Algol-60 system can be used as an example of a compiler
and how the best use was made of very limited resources. It is a real world
compiler which was a commercial success, now available in source code form.
The download includes the full user manual, which contains a description of
the generated code and details of the stack layout.
The Algol60 components distributed in Algol60.zip are Copyright by RHA
(Minisystems) Ltd, but permission is granted free for personal use. For any
other use, including educational, please ask RHA (Minisystems) Ltd. first.
Although there is no ban on distributing Algol60.zip for personal use, we
would much rather that everyone downloaded it from the web site. That way,
you will get the latest version and we do expect to be updating it from time
to time.

ALL BASIC CODES
version: 1.8
voxel@edmc.net
http://www.edmc.net/~voxel/
http://www.basicguru.com/abc
All BASIC Codes (ABC)
The All BASIC Code (or ABC) Archives is a comprehensive collection of BASIC
Code. Here you will find code for the various BASIC languages available for
the PC (check table). There are countless others, but the ones shown on the
table are the most widely used/supported. You may even stumble upon some
assembly code as well, which most advanced BASIC programmers can implement
into their QuickBASIC/PDS programs.
We currently boast over 1900 snippets, and growing fast! You'll find
anything from 3D RAYCASTERS, TEXT EDITORS, FULL FEATURED GAMES,
MOD/VOC/WAV/CMF SOUND PLAYERS, GIF/PCX/BMP/TGA GRAPHICS VIEWERS, HUFFMAN/LZW
(DE)COMPRESSION, and much much more! Almost every aspect of BASIC is covered
in these packets, making this archive the most comprehensive collection of
BASIC code anywhere!
Make sure you check out the best of ABC
First, you need to download the ABC (Express) Reader. I recommend the
Express Reader, but either reader is fine. For Windows fanatics, there's
also a Windows Reader available. After downloading your reader of choice,
you need to download the bi-monthly packets, but you don't have to download
them all (however you'll be missing out on some great code). Once you've got
those files, unzip them in the same directory (ie. C:\ABCREAD\), then run
the ABC Reader which will do the rest.
There are a few tutorials you can download, but you'll need the ABC Express
Reader in order to read them. The tutorials are a new feature, and still has
not received enough interest to expand this section, it may be dumped later.
There seems to be a shortage of good tutorials. If you know of any, please
send them this way, thanks!
First, what is Postit? It's an ingenious tool created by Rich Geldreich and
others to distribute binaries across the FidoNet QUIK_BAS Echo. Think of a
.UUE file, except to decode a Postit! encrypted file you need to run the
code under (one of) QB/QBasic/PDS/VBDOS or PowerBASIC. If you look closely
at the file, it looks like any other BASIC code. Just run it! For PowerBASIC
users, don't forget to remove the DIM from DIM SHARED to get that code to
run. Download the ABC Express Reader to eliminate this extra process.
ABC Express Reader v1.8 (Size: 200KB)
Features: Tutorials, Background music, ability to print code, decode Postit!
code during extraction, Add/Edit/Delete ABC Snippets, and many more options!

ARACHNE
version: 1.70
Arachne v1.70 -- DOS (suitable for Windows)
Arachne is a graphical Web browser which runs on DOS compatible
operating systems and includes freeware PPP dialer, WAV player, etc.
Optional downloads include MPEG video player, AVI/Quicktime/MPEG3
multimedia player, TELNET client, and 'skins'. Available in both DOS and
Linux formats, Arachne for DOS is still quite Linux-like in its setup
and documentation and is not as straight forward as most Windows-based
browsers. We couldn't properly review it because our hardware (a
Windows-only dial-up modem) was not compatible with this program. Unlike
most Windows-based browsers, Arachne needs to dial up its own PPP
connection, which is why our modem was unacceptable. For people with the
right hardware (just look at your modem box or documentation) this
browser makes a real alternative to IE and Netscape. Small and fast, it
is not weighed down with the dross of most Windows programs and lacks
nothing as far as its GUI (graphical user interface) is concerned. The
setup is, unfortunately, not quite as easy but given time, and a good
read of the documentation, you should soon have it configured. We were
disappointed that we couldn't put Arachne through its paces properly and
look forward to doing so in the future. Access this 989kB download from:

Argus can log access to drives, directories, files and transferred bytes,
EMS use, modifications of the INT table, and memory management. I use it
primarily to troubleshoot and to discover what file actions some apps
perform (e.g., what files are required by a program, log creation of temp
files, etc.). Requires about 5K RAM and can be uninstalled from memory. One
warning: The log files created by Argus can grow very large very quickly.

postal addresses to get access to the download page. ASQ is analogous to the
MSD tool shipped with DOS/ Win3x, but includes a few different features.
Doesn't have a graphic memory mapper like MSD. ASQ can analyse your DOS
configuration and suggest areas where you can improve performance/ memory
management. It is menu driven and contains a helpful tutorial and glossary
The current version (1996) is getting dated now and won't be of much value

File Size: 184 KB
File Date: 2001-07-13 10:33:00
Bio-Rhythms calculates the high, low and critical periods of your emotional, intellectual and physical cycles with an optional master cycle to give you an indepth look at what's in store for you. Compatibility charts can be calculated for any two poeple in the bio-base and interpretations are available in English, French and Spanish.
Enter your name and birthday into the birthday database, click on Bio-Charts and you're on your way to an exciting world of self-discovery through bio-rhythms. Easily see when you're at your peak or when you need to take extra care. Check when the best time would be for that dentist's appointment or your son or daughter's wedding. Don't worry about going too far into the future: Bio-Rhythms can display 97 years worth of cycles on your screen at one time, and you can page through them conveniently week by week.
Find out on what day of the week you were born, how many days it's been since you were born. Then click on the astrological sign to gain even more information about yourself. When you're through discovering your own potential, use the compatibility module to see if that someone special you met by the water cooler, is all they appear to be.
Bio-charts can be displayed as bar, line or point charts and come with approx. 200 user-defined options, from line color, shading, title fonts to your favorite graphic being used as bio-chart wallpaper. Once you've finished your masterpiece, easily export it to the clipboard or a file to add finishing touches in your favorite graphics program. Bio-Rhythms also supports color printers with an extensive print preview and printing system.
For those who want to take bio-rhythms to a deeper level, Bio-Rhythms also comes with an extensive notes system, where you can add your own interpretations for each name in your database. And when you've finished adding your notes, they can be spell-checked in 1 of 7 languages (American or British English, Dutch, French, Italian, German or Spanish)

BlueBook v1.02
02-29-96 Size: 320.43 KB
Requirements: VGA and DOS 3.3
Purchase Information: Freeware
BlueBook is an easy-to-use personal database, suitable for storing virtually
any type of information. A good setup program makes configuration easy, and
BlueBook features an attractive, graphical interface. Essentially a
flat-file database capable of holding 32,000 records per file, BlueBook can
be used for names and addresses, appointments, personal records, and so on.
It features excellent search capabilities to rapidly locate specific data
and allows each record to be joined to eight other records. BlueBook may
seem a little quirky to those used to more traditional databases, but it
includes good on-line help. Although this version is free, a number of
options won't function unless you purchase an enhanced version for $15

Boot manager allows booting of all operating systems
Boot manager allows booting from all local hard disks and diskette
Installation of boot manager in MBR or primary partition or diskette
Support for hard disks up to 2048 GB (2 TB)
Allows booting beyond the 8 GB limit (e.g. Windows ME, Windows 2000, Linux,
...)
Partitions can be edited (activated and hidden)
Password protection for boot manager and configuration program
Explicit support for booting DOS, Windows 9x from 2nd, 3rd, ... disk
Support for Windows 2000 (with Boot-US 1.2.4 and higher)
Individual hiding of primary and extended partitions (with Boot-US 1.3.0 and
higher)
True hiding of part. especially for Windows 2000 (with Boot-US 1.5.0)
The following list is an (incomplete) overview about the operation systems
which can be successfully booted by Boot-US: Windows 95/98/ME, Windows
NT/2000 (from disk 1), MS-DOS (several versions), Novell-DOS 7.0 (DR-DOS),
Free DOS, Linux, Free BSD/Open BSD, Oberon, BeOS, VMware ...
The whole package Boot-US with all accompanying programs (boot manager,
etc.) may be used in the non-licensed version on private PCs for free. This
allows a broad usage of the program. Public schools may also use the
non-licensed version of Boot-US for free.
The non-licensed version has the following restrictions compared with the
licensed version:
- no password protection in boot manager
- restricted password protection for configuration program
- no support for booting DOS, Windows 95/98/ME from a second, third,.. disk
- no support for true partition hiding in boot manager
When the boot manager is installed to the hard disk these features are
available only in the licensed version. However, if the boot manager is
installed to diskette these features are available also in the non-licensed
version.

CapsLock v1.0 (DOS) (3 KB)
Manage DOS Caps Lock. (08/99)
I have a problem with caps lock : i never know if my keyboard is in
upper-case or lower-case.
If i hit the CAPSLOCK key (US keyboard), am i going to upper or lower case ?
Did i hit the SHIFT key since i was in caps mode (french keyboard), wich
makes my keyboard going to lower case ?
It is for a DOS application in which you have to use frequently numeric keys
that i have developped CapsLock. In that application, numeric keypad is
deactivated and caps mode is required on the French keyboard to have access
to other numerical keys. It is annoying when you do not know how your
keyboard will respond when you hit a key.
This is why i began working on CapsLock.
Usage :
- a hit on the CAPSLOCK key, you are in caps mode.
- a second hit on the CAPSLOCK key, you still are in caps mode (US
keyboard).
- a hit on a SHIFT key , you are still and ever in caps mode (french
keyboard).
- a hit on SHIFT+CAPSLOCK keys, you quit caps mode.
Thus, the caps lock state is sure because the sequence of key is different
to go from a mode to the other, and this sequence is not used by another
function.

CatView 2000 beta 5
Ware Type: Freeware
File Size: 2670 KB
File Date: 2001-08-30 10:51:00
CatView 2000 searches plain text files for lines containing keywords specified by the user.CatView 2000 is therefore handy for text files that are catalogs or flat-file databases (where each line represents a record)
Although it is possible to search line-delimited files with the Find feature in a word-processor or web browser, this will not cater for finding groups of words or returning a list of matching lines.
If there are many matches, it is necessary to iterate through all the matches in the document until you locate the one you're looking for.
If it is a large file, this can be very tedious.
With CatView, you search a file by typing text in up to 3 keywords.
CatView will then search the file and copy all the lines with the keywords specified into a grid for viewing and manipulation.
Once you have completed a search in CatView you can then 'save', 'append', 'print' and do all sorts of things with the results. You can also search multiple files in one go.
There are advanced searching facilities such as case sensitivity, boolean (AND/OR) searching and wildcards.
CatView is configurable and represents a complete yet simple catalog-file search and results gathering solution.

CMATH is a comprehensive library for complex-number arithmetics and mathematics, both in cartesian and polar format (float, double, and extended precision). The implementation in Assembly language ensures superior speed, accuracy, and safety, as compared to other available complex class libraries with their inline or compiled C++ code.
All CMATH functions may be called either from C with type-specific function names (e.g., cf_sin, cd_exp, pf_sqrt) or from C++ with overloaded function names (sin, exp, sqrt, etc.). They are optimized for Pentium/PentiumII, but will run on computers down to 386+387.

CMDline: Command line interpreter library. Freeware
This library is intended for the facility of writing applications which
configurations shall depend on parameters from the command line. It
prevents the programmer from inventing recurring algorithms again and
again but keeps him/her free to use the functions in many ways. Unlike
the simple high level language parameter conversion by string, the
library performs a syntax check, sorts parameters by usability and
filters switches, strings, numbers, boolean values and drive
statements. Moreover, it only takes about 800 bytes in code. The
complete version is available in 16 and 32-bit modes for C, Delphi

Decrypt v2.1.0
The Decrypt Utility provides for automatic decryption of mail from nym
accounts, including all layers of conventional and public-key encryption.
Mail messages are saved to a file (or multiple files), and passphrases are
entered in DEC.INI. Decrypt then decrypts the mail and writes the plain
text messages to the output text file, normally dec.txt.
Decrypt v2 will decrypt and save PGP, UUEncoded, and MIME binary attachments
to a default attachment directory, and will automatically assemble and
decrypt multi-part fixedsize messages. In addition, Decrypt can be
configured to automatically import and/or export decrypted messages to
Agent, Netscape, Eudora, Pegasus, Outlook Express, and Net-Tamer.
Decrypt is suitable for use in DOS and Windows, and includes a Windows95
installation program. Additionally, the remailer utility programs Potato
and Jack B. Nymble can automatically export passphrases to DEC.INI.

DelBut: deletes all the files except the ones that match the mask you

DelRD: very simple; gets rid of the current directory without a hassle - be
careful with this. It won't ask unless the directory is older than 15 min.!

It's designed for 4DOS users but works
perfectly without 4DOS. Descriptions are saved in a single

automatically updated when files are copied/moved/deleted.

DISK SECTOR RECOVERY
version:
Miodrag Malovic

disk sectors recovery
Status: Freeware (but if it saves you files worth millions, I expect a
donation J). Fully compatible with windows. Note: recov32 will not work
without extended interrupt 13h (means on some older computers).
Hit by a virus? Formatted hard disk by mistake? Deleted files but can't
undelete them? No problem, as long as you remember some "keywords" (any
bytes sequences) which was appearing in your files, and you didn't overwrite
associated disk sectors with other files. (examples: you had an address book
which contained string "myfriend @ hisserver.net", or you had a bookmark
file which contained string "www.xxx.com / y.htm", etc). Depending on the
type of your disk, you can download one of my two utilities. Recov for FAT16
disks (DOS and windows 95) or Recov32 for FAT32 disks (windows 98).
First run a disk editor (like winhex) to locate sectors where your files
resided. In case you have FAT16 disk and use my recov utility, you must use
"logical disks" option. In case you have FAT32 disk and use my recov32
utility, you must use "physical disks" option. Remember the sector, and
discard offset information. Then run my disk sectors recovery. Just type its
exe filename in the DOS prompt, and the instructions (proper arguments
syntax) will appear.
Few more hints. ZIP files can be recognized by string "PK" & chr(3) &
chr(4), that's bytes sequence 504B0304hex. ARJ files can be recognized by
their actual filenames in the header, like MYFILE.ARJ string.

Easy Money 1.9 (DOS) 157 KB
Easy Money for DOS (EZMDOS) is a quick and easy-to-use means to record where
all your money comes from and where it goes. Using EZMDOS is quick and
painless. You can easily start the program, enter in several expenses, and
get back out in a matter of seconds. This high speed, no nonsense operation
makes it easy to get in the habit of using the program every day.
This final DOS version of Easy Money is released as freeware. It will run on
virtually any IBM-compatible from an XT on, under MS-DOS 3 through Windows
98, NT4. If you find the program useful, please consider upgrading to the
latest 32 bit Windows version. Windows version 3.0 on includes a data
conversion utility which will read and incorporate old data from any
previous DOS or Windows version of the program.
The DOS version of Easy Money requires a separate text editing program for
some functions. Just about any DOS editor will work, but far and away the
best I've found is READ by WellsCom. READ handles huge files and includes a
number of nice "word processor" characteristics which set it apart from most
normal text editors. Highly recommended to download READ
(http://www.waverlystreet.com/apps/read38.zip - 72 KB). Unzip READ in the
EZMONEY directory and use the command: ezmdos read to run Easy Money with
it. (Note: READ is not freeware, and is not a WaverlyStreet program.)

documentation assumes experience with hex editors (Use Alt-H for context

Pro assembler; create new files; search and replace mode; Search of
assembler commands using pattern; bookmarks; Block operations in HEX/DECODE
modes. HIEW.EXE runs under both DOS and OS/2. As of 7-99 HIEW has become

HJSplit
HJSplit is a popular set of freeware file-splitting programs created by
Freebyte! in collaboration with various programmers. HJSplit supports many
platforms (Windows 3.x/95/98/ME/2000/NT, DOS, Amiga, Java, etc.). All
versions are compatible with each other and allow you to exchange files
between these different platforms. E.g. a file split on the Amiga can be
joined on Windows 2000 and vice versa.
Of course HJSplit can join these split parts back together again, so that
the original file is restored. Alternatively, you can use HJJoin for this,
which is a tiny and specialized program for joining files.
HJSplit is very reliable, simple, small and easy to use. It does not need
any installation or complicated DLLs, it just consists of one '.exe' file.
This means that you can also run it directly from a floppy or CD-Rom.

LDraw is a DOS freeware program written by James Jessiman for modelling Lego models in 3D on the computer. It is easy to use with some experience and has a text-based file format as well as open-ended parts authoring capabilities. More than that, the original system provided by LDraw, the DAT file format, has allowed other programmers to come in and develop utilities for the LEGO CAD online community (LCAD). The most popular of these is MLCad - an extremely useful Windows editor for DAT, created by Michael Lachmann. This program has soared in popularity because of its straightforward design, ease of use, and support by its author.
System Requirements: MS-DOS or Windows 3.x, 95/98/NT, Approx. 15MB hard disk space, 4MB RAM or higher reccommended
On 200mhz or faster machines, LEdit usually crashes and gives a 'Runtime Error 200.' If this happened use the patch file.

Lens Evaluation Software (LES), version 4.0, is a geometrical raytrace
program for the IBM PC under DOS. It can be used to evaluate the image
locations and the performance of imaging optical systems. It accommodates
systems with tilted and decentered components and with rotationally
symmetric aspheric surfaces. It is a menu-driven program that will trace
real and paraxial rays, produce ray fan tables, and plot spot diagrams.
Extensive context sensitive help is provided within the program; no user's
manual is needed.
The compressed file, called les40.zip, contains the executable code, some
utilities, and a text file with a brief description and a walkthrough for
those unfamiliar with optical raytrace tasks and software.
Version 4.0 of LES is FreeWare and may be distributed without restriction.

PC/DOS - 229 KB
LOTS1, version 7.1, is a computer program for the IBM computer under DOS to
calculate one-dimensional diffraction effects along an optical beam path. It
can be used to determine the diffraction patterns associated with various
initial beam intensity and phase profiles after propagation over a distance,
transmission through lenses, reflection by mirrors, and clipping by
apertures and obstructions along the path, and other effects. It is useful
to assure that the optical elements in a laser system have a sufficiently
large aperture to avoid unwanted diffraction effects, such as the intensity
ripple which can easily occur with a high coherence source. It is also of
instructional use; for example, repeated application of the LOTS1 macro
"again" allows one to see how a Fresnel (near-field) diffraction pattern
forms and then transitions to the Fraunhoffer (far-field) case with
increasing distance along the beampath.
Use this program at your own risk. Remember that it is NOT a two-dimensional
code; for serious work, a commercial physical optics code is more
appropriate.
The compressed file, called lots1_71.zip, contains the executable code, some
utilities, and text files with brief descriptions, command formats, and
examples.
Version 7.1 is FreeWare and may be distributed without restriction.

LSPPP
version: 0.7
LADSoft (David Lindauer)
camille@bluegrass.net
http://members.tripod.com/~ladsoft/lsppp/
LSPPP v0.7 (14 KB) Date: 01/05/00
LSppp is a small MSDOS PPP packet driver. It is compatible with the needs of WATTCP and trumpet stacks. The resident size is approximately 28K.
LSppp loads as a class one ethernet driver and handles all aspects of the connection from dialing onward. Optionally, an external dialer may be used to dial an ISP prior to running LSppp; it will detect the carrier and go immediately into internet communications setup.
LSppp is capable of auto-configuring WATTCP through the bootp mechanism and will do so automatically. However, for this to work properly LSppp will have to be supplied with name server information. LSppp will attempt to automatically load name server information from the ISP, if none is specified on the command line, however, this is an optional feature your ISP may not support. To see if it is supported run LSppp without specifying the name server switch (/N) and see if it places DNS addresses in the IP-UP.bat file
LSppp does not use configuration files; all parameters are placed on the command line or optionally in the LSPPP environment variable. LSPPP will search the environment variable for valid command switches first, then modify this information with command switches specified on the command line. Configuration options include user name and password, number to dial, nameserver information, and various options to set up a communications port to use or customize the timeout mechanisms.
The current version does not have a lot of backwards compatibility for old versions of the protocols. If you have problems running it use the /l switch and send the resulting LSPPP.LOG file to the author for analysis.
Van jacobsen compression and the CHAP protocol have recently been added to LSPPP. Other less used protocols (including MSCHAP) are not currently supported.

MaxDIR v2.24: DOS DIR alternative.Color/sorted
MaxDIR is a DOS DIR Command alternative, presenting a directory of
files in a much nicer and more user friendly format, using a lot less
screen space. MaxDIR makes use of sorting, columns, and color in order
to assist you in a multitude of tasks which include dealing with the
brain clutter that occurs when typing DIR and pressing Enter.
By default, MaxDIR shows you a directory of files, alphabetized and
colored by file type, in 4 columns, utilizing the entire screen to show
you up to 200 files at a time. Since you'll know what the color is for
each file type, and you'll know they are alphabetized, you can look at
a directory and instantly find what you are looking for, in many cases,
even if you do not know the filename.
MaxDIR shows available drives, each file's size, the disk bytes free,
disk type, space used by the files listed (cluster consumption),
#files, #dirs, percentage of disk full, etc. It also allows several
command switches so that you can tailor your directory listing to what
you would like to see.
MaxDIR will work on anything that uses or emulates true DOS, including
MSDOS, PC-DOS, DR-DOS, Novell-DOS, OS/2, Win95/98/ME/NT/2000, Win3.1,
etc...

Meal-Master v8.06 is now available!! This new maintenance level changes
Meal-Master to the "freeware" category, meaning all features are now
available without registration. (The printed manual, reference materials,
and priority technical support previously provided to registered users are
no longer available.)
Meal-Master is a complete recipe management system for IBM and
IBM-compatible computers. A Meal-Master database can hold approximately
65,000 recipes (subject to disk space availability), and if desired, you can
create multiple databases on different disks for unlimited capacity. A
series of easy to use menus guide new users through the program with ease,
while providing experienced users with quick access to advanced features.
Recipes can be entered into the program using simple "fill in the blanks"
forms and a built-in editor. Each recipe can have a combined 100 lines of
ingredients and directions, and can be cross-referenced to five different
categories of your choosing. Quantities can be entered in common fractions
(like "1-1/2"), or as decimal fractions (like "1.5"). Regardless of how
quantities are entered, they can be automatically changed to the other
format whenever desired. Both English and Metric measures are supported,
including automatic conversion between the two systems.
This self-extracting archive file contains the full Meal-Master program and
utilities. (Meal-Master is a DOS program, but is also fully compatible with
Windows, Windows95, WindowsNT, and OS/2.)

Midget
Midget is a music program for people who like to compose music without using a score-based interface (ie: one where you place notes on a music score, using a mouse). I originally developed it because I had purchased a new sound card, which had extra MIDI voices on it, and I needed a piece of software that supported it - and I also needed a piece of software that used MIDI, without the hassle of point-and-click or MIDI keyboard input.
Midget also supports Yamaha XG equipment!
What's different? The interface allows the composer to hear notes as they are entered, and review them if necessary. With most MIDI programs, the user has to enter data on to an image of a music manuscript. This takes considerable skill and time to get it to sound as you want it to. It has been my experience that while errors are corrected in the music, my inspiration has to be ignored. Midget allows the composer to enter a note, instantly change it if necessary, and continue, in a fraction of the time this operation would take with common MIDI file editors.
Midget uses it's own file format, and files can be exported to standard .MID files easily (Midget 2.0 and later only).
Midget 1.3 and Midget 2.0 will NOT work while you are running: Windows 3.1 or earlier, Windows NT, 2000 or XP
Midget 3.0 requires Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000 or XP.

OptiVec contains more than 3500 hand-optimized, Assembler-written functions for all floating-point and integer data types from the following fields:1. Vectorized form of arithmetic operators and math functions.
2. Matrix operations, e.g.: multiplication, inversion, LU decomposition, singular value decomposition, eigenvalues.
3. Fast Fourier Transform techniques for efficient convolutions, correlation analyses, spectral filtering, etc., both one- and two-dimensional.
4. Curve fitting for a wide range of model functions from simple linear regression to non-linear models with multiple data sets.
5. Statistics.
6. Analysis (derivatives, integrals, extrema, interpolation).
7. Graphical representation of data in Cartesian coordinates.
8. Complex number math, both in cartesian and polar format.
The vectorized implementation in Assembler makes OptiVec functions, on the average, 2-3 times faster than compiled source code of the same functionality. In many instances, the numerical accuracy is improved as well.
The object-oriented interface for C++, VecObj, offers simplified function calls and increased memory safety.

PagiGP v2.x
PARI-GP is a software package for computer-aided number theory. It consists of a C library, libpari (with optional assembler cores for some popular architectures), and of the programmable interactive gp calculator. While you can write your own libpari-based programs, many people just start up a gp session, or have gp execute their scripts.
Originally developed at Bordeaux by a team led by Henri Cohen, PARI-GP is now maintained by Karim Belabas at the Université Paris-Sud Orsay with the help of many volunteer contributors.

PerSense v3.2: Multi-purpose financial calc
PerSense is a financial calculator with six separate screens for loan
amortization, present and future values, financial planning, IRR's and
APR's, mortgage comparison, and construction of arbitrary loans,
payment-by-payment. The loan facility will handle multiple balloon
payments, changes in rate and payment amount, any combination of
payments at different frequency from weekly to yearly, as well as
interest-only loans and constant-paydown amortization.
The present value screen allows for combinations of single payments at
arbitrary times and periodic payment series. Payments for life and
payments upon death are valued with tables of actuarial probability,
which may be selected or entered as a text file by the user. Despite
the DOS format, the program runs fine under Win 95/98/NT and is
structured with pull-down menus and mouse support.

PGPR or Pretty Good PrivacyR is a powerful cryptographic product family that
enables people to securely exchange messages, and to secure files, disk
volumes and network connections with both privacy and strong authentication.
Privacy means that only the intended recipient of a message can read it. By
providing the ability to encrypt messages, PGP provides protection against
anyone eavesdropping on the network. Even if the information is intercepted,
it is completely unreadable to the snooper. Authentication identifies the
origin of the information, certainty that it is authentic, and that it has
not been altered. Authentication also provides an extremely valuable tool
in network security: verification of the identity of an individual. In
addition to secure messaging, PGP also provides secure data storage,
enabling you to encrypt files stored on your computer. Version 6.5.8 also
includes PGPnet - a powerful VPN client which enables secure peer-to-peer
IP-based network connections - and Self-Decrypting Archives (SDAs) which
allow you to exchange information securely even with those who do not have
PGP.
MIT distributes PGP Freeware without cost for personal, non-commercial use.
This distribution is done in cooperation with Philip Zimmermann, the
original author of PGP, Network Associates, and with RSA Security, which
licenses patents and software for one of the public-key encryption
technologies on which PGP utilizes.

Real Delete v1.05 (17 KB)
A Secure Deletion TSR
Real Delete is a utility for IBM compatible PCs running DOS or Windows 3.x
which ensures that deleted files are really deleted, and the information you
wanted to disappear cannot subsequently be recovered by the use of undelete
programs or other low level methods of investigating the disk.
Real Delete can be used as an ordinary file wiping program, which you run
each time you want to securely delete a named file. But, much better, it is
designed to be installed as a TSR that intercepts all DOS function calls
that delete files (including Windows ones, but not Win95) and converts them
into secure deletes, overwriting the specified files a number of times
before they are deleted.
You can specify several levels of security, with multiple overwrites,
including the use of pseudo-random patterns to defeat the habit of inline
disk compression software (disk doublers) compressing repetitive wiping
patterns down to a few bytes (thereby leaving much of the file
un-overwritten).
When installed as a TSR, Real Delete makes sure that any temporary files
that your word processor or other software creates and deletes without even
telling you are securely overwritten when they are deleted, automatically.
Real Delete also wipes the dirty buffer and slack cluster space at the end
of files when they are edited or truncated. Other file wiping utilities
cannot do these things, because they are not TSRs. Real Delete changes the
way the system deletes files.
Real Delete is free for personal use.

Savepart v2.2 - 522 KB
Savepart is a DOS program to save, restore and copy hard-drive partitions.
With this program you could save all data of a partition into a file then save this file (on a CD by example). Then if something goes wrong with this partition and need install of all softwares back, you can restore the saved partition. So with such a program you do not need to install all softwares: you have just to restore the file that contains the saving of this partition and then update softwares you install/uninstall/modify since creation of this file.
Note: be aware of softwares that install or modify files on several partitions (e.g. all Windows programs that update registry or DLLs that could be on another partition). In this case if one of the partition is saved/restored, the second one must be equally saved/restored (else you will have some incoherences that could prevent softwares to run).
Savepart is able to compress data (using the gzip algorithm) and to split them into several files (by example if you need to save a 2 Gb partition on CD, this will be possible with deflating it and, if necessary, splitting it into 650 Mb files). Almost all partition types are supported.

version: 2.5
WaverlyStreet
dave@waverlystreet.com

ShareCon 2.5 (DOS) - 170 KB
ShareCon is a sturdy, no-nonsense name and address program. I wrote ShareCon
for a couple of reasons. First, I wanted a home name/address program that
was really easy to use - and the several that I had seen were a bit more
complicated than I thought was necessary. Secondly, I wanted one to use at
work too. Life is complicated enough - I would prefer to use the same
program at home as I use at work. ShareCon's records are tagged as either
personal or public. You can use the built-in merge utility to share the
public ones with your co-workers, without worrying about your personal stuff
getting spread around all over the place. ShareCon includes a Keyword system
plus a utility to find a word or part of a word in all records. On-screen
manual, optional passcode protection, user-defined screen colors, data
backup, reminder utility, and several print output formats: phone lists,
complete records, labels, form letters, or comma-delimited text (readable by
all sorts of other programs). Access data files in any directory, any drive
(including network drives). Runs on any IBM compatible under DOS or Windows.
ShareCon requires a separate text editing program. Just about any DOS editor
will work, but far and away the best I've found is READ by WellsCom. READ
handles huge files and includes a number of nice "word processor"
characteristics which set it apart from most other DOS text editors. Highly
recommended to download READ (http://www.waverlystreet.com/apps/read38.zip -
72 KB). Unzip READ in the ShareCon directory and use the command: sc25 read
to run ShareCon with it. (Note: READ is not freeware, and is not a
WaverlyStreet program.)

In short, Tripple DOS is a pre-emptive multitasker for DOS on session level a-la Windows in Enhanced mode or OS/2.
Its design focuses on simplicity and small size. Unlike full featured operating systems, Tripple DOS has nearly no device drivers. It does only required resources virtualization in order to multitask. Tripple DOS doesn't provide a proprietary API for DOS programs - its purpose is to run existent DOS binaries that are not aware of multitasking.
This release, version 0.50, is unlimited shareware. The executable is accompanied with the license file which defines terms and conditions of use. The license grants you the right to use Tripple DOS free of charge for any non-commercial purpose. Any commercial use is not licensed and requires independent permission from the author. The use of the current release of Tripple DOS doesn't require registration or any other confirmation. Instead, the use itself constitutes your agreement to the terms and conditions listed in the license file. You must comply to these terms.
I have a long to-do list but unfortunately right now I don't have enough time to dedicate to this list. Therefore I will appreciate any feedback from you. It will allow me to concentrate on the most demanded features and will let the project develop client driven.
The current version is very basic; it's an early beta. The interface is very simple. You must start Tripple-DOS by executing it in real mode DOS, by typing "tridos"
DOS may be any type or version but it must be compatible with MS-DOS version 3.0. Tripple-DOS will not start if any protected mode software is running, including EMS memory managers. This version will also not function correctly with XMS memory managers if some programs have allocated extended memory prior to starting Tripple-DOS.
Once started, you may start a new DOS session at any time by pressing Alt-Enter, change to the next session with Alt-Tab, and terminate the currently active session with Alt-End. You may quit Tripple-DOS any time by pressing Alt-Esc.

UMBPCI V3.27 -
c't magazine's hardware-UMB-driver for DOS and Win95/98
UMBPCI is a hardware-UMB-driver for DOS and Win95. It extends the HIMEM.SYS of DOS or Win95 by the function 'Request XMS UMB' (These are the 240 Bytes which stay in memory). That's the same that EMM386 does, if you load it with the parameter 'noems' or 'ram'.
UMBPCI makes UMBs from disabled memory that is indended as Shadow-RAM. UMBPCI enables this memory and disables its write protection.
It needs only 240 Bytes of low memory, that's all!
EMM386 works on all machines with 386 cpu or higher and provides usally more UMBs than UMBPCI but it creates the UMBs from the computer's physical XMS (eXtended Memory Specifications) by virtually remapping XMS to the upper memory area using the Memory Management Unit (MMU) of 386 and higher CPUs. It needs additional 150 KB of XMS, 4 KB of low memory and 7 KB of UMA (Upper Memory Area) when loaded, and it also switches the CPU into "protected mode" (slower) because it's nessecary to use the MMU. DOS runs in virtual 8086 machine then (V86 mode):
Some information about protected mode: http://pure.l33t3.de/deinmeister/x86modes.htm
UMBPCI can only use the range C800-EFFF but NOT B000-B7FF. This range is normally for monochrome graphics and not for BIOS extensions, so the chipsets are not able to enable shadow RAM there which UMBPCI could use.
Because the memory UMBPCI uses is intended as shadow RAM and not as normal RAM there are several problems:
ISA-DMA may not work, the L2-Cache may be write protected or it simply doesn't work...
As I said ISA-DMA is critical in the created UMBs, so SMARTDRV's floppy cache may not work if it is loaded high. Read the instructions for additional information!
To check if ISA-DMA works there is DMACHK.COM (thanks to Heiko Nocon). To use it you must be in pure DOS and UMBPCI must be loaded. It shows in which ranges ISA-DMA works. The program is within the UMBPCI.ZIP. On some machines it crashes...
Read the READ.ME for details!
When you use UMBPCI on a bootdisk you should use only ranges that can handle ISA-DMA. E.g. on most Intel chipsets of the 400 series (430xX, 440xX) you should load it with /I=E000-EFFF, on chipsets that cannot handle ISA-DMA in the UMBs you should not use UMBPCI on bootdisks.
To visualize the memory allocation of DOS the MEM command is certainly not prime quality. I suggest MI_E.ZIP (MI stands for Memory Information I think).
Win9x takes all remaining UMBs and uses them as normal memory. But as you just read the memory created by UMBPCI is often not normal. It may be not cacheable or ISA-DMA may not work. To avoid Win9x using this critical memory I made the new program UMBFILL. It allocates all remaining UMBs. Put it in your AUTOEXEC.BAT but don't use loadhigh or lh when you load it - this will not work.
Another way to prevent Win95 takes all remaining UMBs is to add the line LocalLoadHigh=0 to your SYSTEM.INI section [386enh].
Then Win95 takes only a small part of the UMBs which should be uncritical, but I have no reliable information about this.
On chipsets with non cachable UMBs you should force the DOS buffer into low memory because they can slow down Win9x. Set DOS=high, umb, noauto in your CONFIG.SYS and in addition to HIMEM.SYS load IFSHLP.SYS there.

Append uuencoded mail messages
When a file is sent through Email, it is often uuencoded, and then split
into a number of pieces, resulting in numerous Email messages. These
messages have to be appended together, and then decoded. Some Email
clients can do this themselves, but others to not have that option. In
the case of the latter, UUAppend v1.0 can save a lot of time, when
attempting to join the messages, which often number into the hundreds.
UUAppend v1.0 removes the headers and footers, which sometimes confuse
certain UUdecoders. Unfortunately, the user still has to do a bit of the
work, namely, saving each message in the form of a text file. These text
files have to be in the form, 1.TXT, 2.TXT etc. Once they have been
made, UUAppend does the rest, creating a file, named by the user, which
is ready to be decoded, using any UUdecoding software.

VIM (Vi IMproved)
VIM is an improved version of the editor "vi", one of the standard text
editors on UNIX systems.
VIM adds many of the features that you would expect in an editor: Unlimited
undo, syntax coloring, split windows, visual selection, graphical user
interface (read: menus, mouse control, scrollbars, text selection), and much
much more.
VIM runs on many operating systems: AmigaOS, AtariMiNT, BeOS, DOS, MacOS,
MachTen, OS/2, RiscOS, VMS, and Windows (95/98/NT4/NT5/2000) and, of course,
on UNIX in a lot of flavours
For those who use Windows - you can use Vim as your editor in other
programs, eg many users already use Vim as their editor within VisualStudio.
Vim comes in two parts: One archive holds the program (either as source or
binary/executable), and another archive holds the runtime files with the
documentation and syntax files. This allows you to update Vim as a program
without having to download the latest documentation.

Word Search v5.02 -- DOS (suitable for Windows)
Word Search is a DOS program which can create printed or HTML word
search puzzles. It features up to 60 words per puzzle, 57 puzzle shapes
supplied (heart, key, airplane, etc), use clues instead of naming the
words, and more. The main requirement for using this program if you are
using Windows 95 or later is to run it in a full screen mode. Apart from
that, it is a typical text-based DOS program where you navigate by
pressing TAB keys, etc as outlined in the program (each page of the
program has full instructions on what to do next and there is also a
Helpfile). The puzzles created can be printed directly from the program
or saved as an HTM file. This means you can post them on the Web or play
them through your Web browser from your hard drive. People who have had
no experience with DOS programs might find the interface a little
strange at first appearance but there is ample help and the procedure is
quite logical. Needless to say, you can forget your mouse for this game.
We liked Word Search. The resultant game is good and the options
extensive. The author has put a lot of thought into making the game as
playable as possible for non-DOS users. The biggest 'problem' is to
change the program so that it runs full screen and not in a DOS window.
Step-by-step instructions show what to do. If you love word puzzles --
specially if you want to post some puzzles on the Web -- grab a copy of
Word Search. It really isn't as hard as you might think! Access this
