ManplatoSync for Java now available from alphaWorks

ManplatoSync for Java is a new Java-based Palm data synchronization solution available from IBM's alphaWorks site. It was developed primarily on OS/2, and provides a number of Palm connectivity options for both users and system administrators alike, on any Java enabled platform.

In the coming weeks, we'll be releasing a variety of plug-ins there for popular applications (including Lotus Notes v4.x for OS/2), however we are also encouraging users and developers to write plug-in conduits for their own applications and databases, and will have documentation on how do so so available shortly.

Updated DOS/LAN bug web page

The web page detailing the NETBIOS LAN/DOS session bug in MCP, eCS, and, under certain circumstances, in Warp 4 FP 15, has been updated. As new data arrives, I will post it there.

For those who missed the previous notice, The effect of this bug is to raise the chance of data corruption for people using certain DOS applications on an OS/2 network to 'almost certain'.

HOBLink X/11 in eCS

We put the announcement up on the http://www.ecomstation.com web site late yesterday. Product will be available for a free download to registered eCS users and is to be considered part of eCS.

While some home users who run UNIX and Linux have told me that this offering helps them, the real target is the consultant and the commercial account.

Register Now for Warpstock 2001

The Warpstock Board of Directors and Warpstock 2001 Event Team are pleased to announce that registrations for both attendees and exhibitors are now being accepted at the Warpstock website, http://www.warpstock.org. Individuals can also register for the Saturday night social event.

The fifth annual Warpstock event, which will be held October 6-8 in Toronto, promises to be the biggest and best OS/2ÿ event ever. The event will feature six tracks of presentations, demos, and seminars. Event organizers have worked hard this year to expand the event to three days while continuing to hold registration cost to a minimum.

Payment can be made in one of three ways, check, credit card, or direct bank transfer. Checks, accompanied by an order form, should be mailed. The address and the form are available on the web site. Credit card payments and direct bank transfers are handled online, using the PayPal system.

PayPal (http://www.paypal.com) is a free, online service that lets you make payments to other PayPal users using either your credit card or a direct bank transfer. By using PayPal, Warpstock can accept credit card payments more cheaply than with other providers. The only drawback is that you need to become a PayPal member in order make a PayPal payment. Details can be found on the PayPal web site.

To register for Warpstock 2001, go to http://www.warpstock.org/2001/registration/registration.html. If you have any questions, please email CustomerService@warpstock.org.

The Warpstock Board of Directors and the Warpstock 2001 Event Team look forward to welcoming the OS/2 community to Toronto for the greatest Warpstock experience ever.

The 5th annual Warpstock conference will be held October 6-8, 2001, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and is produced by Warpstock, Inc., a North Carolina non-profit corporation. The Warpstock annual conference is a gathering of OS/2 users, developers, and vendors from around the world for the purpose of education and advocacy. More information is available at the Warpstock 2001 website, http://www.warpstock.org

Audio tracks are represented as WAV and RAW files, which can be played, copied or encoded from CD directly. NETBIOS LAN/DOS Session bug in MCP and eCS

There is a NETBIOS LAN/DOS session bug in MCP, eCS, and, under certain circumstances, in Warp 4 FP 15. The effect of this bug is to raise the chance of data corruption for people using DOS applications on an OS/2 network to 'almost certain'.

IBM has now successfully reproduced the bug. I have been informed that this bug will =not= be addressed in the upcoming release of fixpack 1 for MCP.

Since this problem can impact many, [and since I have been receiving many questions on it since reporting it], I have set up a web page with detailed information on the bug. The web page also contains information on subscribing to a mailing list to discuss the bug and coordinate efforts to develop some sort of workaround until and if IBM fixes the problem.

Back Again/2000 Server Scheduler Initialization 0.0.01

The backup program Back Again/2000 Server 2.10d has an WPS integrated scheduler which seems to be a subclass of the WPFolder class. Although there is a problem: At system startup this scheduler does not initialize which means that no backups will be started. SchedAdd will cure this.

It has been uploaded to Hobbes:
