DB/2 Fixpack 3 for OS/2

For those who do not want to download this huge file, there is a link to get a CD-ROM of the fixpack at

ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/ps/defect_submission/ptfform.txt

This gives you a text file with all the information you need to fill out and send in to IBM via e-mail, fax, or snail mail. It looks like it would be a free service less media cost and shipping.

MultiDesk 0.2.0 is out

A new release of MultiDesk is available. While I had no time still to upload the new release to Hobbes, you can get it by subscribing to the MultiDesk group athttp://groups.yahoo.com/group/multidesk , and looking in the "Files" section.

In the next few days I'll upload it to Hobbes incoming directory also.

You can find more information about MultiDesk at my home page, but please note that it still has to be updated to the latest release (now it reports about v0.1.9).

An excerpt of the History file:

v0.2.0
======

. MuAdmin: Creation of multimedia folder, and the "multimedia setup" object, in new desktops.

. MuAdmin: Added a group to copy XWorkplace Settings while customizing the INIs for a new desktop.

. MuAdmin: Now it lets the administrator customize the INIs for a new desktop in a more thorough way (see the "more..." button in the "INI Setup" dialog).

. MuDesk: Now it shows the system initialization actions it is performing after login.

. MuDesk: Now it supports a pre-login rexx script and per-user post-login rexx scripts.

. MuDesk: Added multiple WarpCenter configuration management.

. Installation adds RUN=rexinit.exe before the PROTSHELL statement, to initialize the REXX runtime environment and interpreter (see above, about pre-login and post-login scripts).

. LOTS of bug fixes

Thankyou!

Mozilla for OS/2 Nightly builds resumed

OK, I am going to start uploading nightlies since things seem to have stabilized a little bit.

These builds will basically have little or no testing, so they are TOTALLY at your own risk. They might not even run, so you should NEVER delete your old build until you have made sure the new one works.

They will be located at:

ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/nightly/latest/mozilla-i386-pcos2-vacpp.zip

This build will always reflect the "latest" build. I won't be archiving old builds publicly right now, but in exchange for that I will be uploading more builds.

You can check the date of that build to determine how recent it is.

Thanks for your support.

eComStation World-Wide Release May 19
eComStation World-Wide Release May 19 New OS/2 Version To Intro At SCOUG Free eComStation Copies, Discount Pricing

Serenity Systems will roll out the world-wide release of eComStation (eCS) at the May 19 SCOUG meeting in Southern California.

"This is the most significant OS/2 release since Warp 4 in 1996" says Mark Abramowitz, SCOUG's Program Chairman. "eComStation has an enhanced interface, installs easily from CD, and includes a new deployment technology called WiseMachine. eCS begins a new era for OS/2-based operating systems!"

Kim Cheung, the driving force behind eComStation development and one of SCOUG's most popular presenters, will unveil eCS and show new eCS surprises and newly-added features during this international rollout presentation. Kim's unique method of showering an audience with feature after feature usually leads to standing ovations.

"I'm so proud to finally have eComStation in full release" says Cheung. "We've worked so hard and with so many beta testers to make sure that eCS meets everybody's expectations."

Serenity Systems is supplying copies of eComStation as door prizes, and special SCOUG pricing will be offered to attendees. You should not miss this meeting and the opportunities it provides.

Meetings of The Southern California OS/2 User Group are always free. This extra-special eComStation presentation starts at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 19. Be there with Kim Cheung as he shows the next release of OS/2!

Directions and other SCOUG information are at http://www.scoug.com/

DECalc version 3 has been released on May 14, 2001 as donation-ware

DECalc is a calculator for OS/2 PM developed using DrDialog for OS/2. It has all of the simple calculator functions which most people need in a hurry (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, square root, percentage) and some more sophisticated functions (factorials, x-to-the-y power, sine, cosine and tangent, and multiple concurrent memories).

New features and enhancements since version 2.4 include:
* Increased result window from 20 to 32 character maximum length * Added functions: sine, cosine and tangent * Added functions: convert between BIN, DEC, HEX and OCT base systems * Added functions: BIN, DEC, HEX and OCT based computations * Changed %, sqrt, x^2, x^y, and 1/x functions so they complete the calculation * Added spin button to select number of digits after a decimal point * Added option to auto-save/auto-load number of digits after a decimal point * Added configurable list of constants for use as input * Added function: random number generator (rnd) * Added function: cube root (cbrt) * Keyboard % now emulated % button * Keyboard ESC now emulates AC button * Keyboard Backspace now emulates < button * Corrected issue in install.cmd to allow installing to the source directory

You can download DECalc 3 at http://freiheit.syntheticdimension.net/os2-myapps.shtml or currently in the /incoming folder at hobbes.nmsu.edu.

See the included decalc.html and readme.txt files for details before installing DECalc.

And finally, a message to those who feel I make too many releases.

I hereby declare that I will take every opportunity to enhance functionality, improve efficiency, and correct programming errors in my software. If you feel I make too many releases, then please stop upgrading when the program does what you need it to do. I appreciate your concern, but I also appreciate that there are still OS/2 developers who are motivated enough to continuously improve on their programs.

Besides, I'm still a beginner at programming. I am learning by developing DECalc. If you prefer software which comes with more features than you can possibly use in version 1.0, then look to IBM and Lotus, not to newbie freeware programmers such as myself.

Thank you.

Shareware: PMStripper 1.24

Program URL:
http://www2.southwind.net/~dwhawk
Available from:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu
in pub/os2/apps/internet/www/util
or pub/incoming
http://www.bmtmicro.com

Archive Filename: pms_124.zip 376841 bytes
Shareware: $9.95 (US)

Discription of PMStripper:

This PM utility strips HTML codes from Web pages, leaving only the text and optionally the URLs. While the layout of tables and lists is lost during stripping, data is sorted to separate lines for legibility. It now translates iso8859-1 character codes (windows codepage) to codepage 437 or codepage 850 character codes.

Registration covers all 1.xx releases of PMStripper. If you have registered PMStripper and have not received an email notice of this update, I need to update your email address in my mailing list. Send me a message with the email address used with your original registration and your new email address and I will update my mailing list.

If you operate an internet accessable archive of OS/2 software and would like me to upload the shareware version of PMStripper to your site, please email me at dwhawk@southwind and include OS/2 in the subject line.

New in PMStripper 1.24

Added 'Translate iso8859-1 character codes' option under 'Strip Options'. Fixed bug in how html comments are stripped.

RexxMail updated.
Build 20010512.142241 of RexxMail is now available from: http://www.degeus.com/rexx/rexxmail_20010512_142241.zip
The updated RexxMail information files are available from: http://www.degeus.com/rexx/rxmlinfo.zip
For information on RexxMail, including on-line browsing of the information and readme.txt files, see: http://www.degeus.com/rexx/rexxmail_english.html

>From the RexxMail readme.txt file:

RexxMail is an e-mail client program that uses the facilities offered by the OS/2 Workplace Shell (WPS) to the full. RexxMail itself is a Classic REXX program that runs invisibly (i.e. minimized) in OS/2 VIO sessions. It works by using a number of program objects that call the program (RexxMail.CMD) with various switches. Associations between these program objects and mail message files enable RexxMail to perform its tasks using the WPS, which is still the best GUI around, bar none.

2001-05-12 = Update: build 20010512.142241.
- Rewrite of installation program.
- Spaces in the RexxMail program directory name are now O.K.
- Added configuration file update routine.
- Added RunCollect configuration option.
- CleanupTemp no longer deletes RXML????.POP3 files.
- Incoming mail is collected before outgoing mail is sent, to accommodate services that use the POP3 logon information for SMTP authentication.
- The program now 'sends' update messages to the user.
- The program also 'sends' error messages to the user if the 'ErrorMail = yes' option is set in the configuration file.
- RexxMail gets standard time from a user-defined (series of) RFC 868-compatible time server(s) to determine the local time zone in +/-hhmm form (thus making the time zone indication RFC 2822-compatible).
- Added 'TimeZone' setting to define (static) time zone string (overriding any time server setting).
