We are currently looking for a new team, after the existing one did not match expectations, both in terms of programming and communications.

We are talking to a number of teams, and hope to find one shortly -- it certainly looks promising.

The port is likely to be started from scratch, partly because the codebase has changed and several improvements to it have been made in the process.

So while it looks a bit gloomy right now, the future looks far more promising and we hope to have more finality on these things very soon.

YADTV/2 Version 1.11 Released

I have released a new version of the YADTV/2 televison application. The application is currently at http:/hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming/yadtv111.zip and at some point will migrate to http:/hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/apps/mmedia/yadtv111.zip.

The application uses the OS/2 Multimedia MCI interface to control the tuner and display for video capture cards that have a TV tuner.

The application has been tested with the Hauppauge Wincast/TV card using the beta drivers from http://www.wdi.co.uk/os2tv/download.htm the application requires that the TV card driver is used with FP6 or better and a GRADD based video driver for direct screen access for the display of the television image. Some display problems exist with Wincast drivers earlier than 1.030M

The application should work with any video capture card that supports the MCI (Media Control Interface) in OS/2 Warp.

This application is FREEWARE - you may use it at your own risk. The author is not responsible for any direct, indirect, or consequential damages resulting from the use of the application.

I want to announce the Shape (non-rectangular) Window library and a desktop accessory using it, to the international OS/2 community.

The Shape Window library enables programmers to create non-rectangular, without frame rectangle, windows on your desktop.

The Desktop accessory called 'Osuwari (sitting) Multi', cute girl 'Multi' sits on the active window. It is a well known desktop accessory in Japan, originally developped for Windows. I ported it to OS/2 using shape window library.

You can get then under my OS/2 page

or directly from

http://www.sra.co.jp/people/akira/os2/shapewin-e.html

Due some new projects and a lot of other things (new webpages, OS/2 Netlabs redesign and much more...) we need artists who can support us in design and creation of logos, websites and GUI's.

If you would like to support our efforts, please let me (Adrian Gschwend ktk@netlabs.org) know!

If you are able to paint icons, logos and other stuff you are the person we need!

FREEDOM OF CHOICE PROJECT- update

OS/2 users, programmers, and resellers! This one *is* for you-- because with help from IACT, the Freedom of Choice Project has been opened up and expanded, to reach users of *all* platforms. That includes OS/2!

The Freedom of Choice Project is our 4th Action Project. It's a cooperative effort between IACT and James Capone, an IACT member as well as devoted user of Linux. We have support from the Linux Mall, and we're hoping that sites in the OS/2 community [hint, hint] will come on board as Project Associates. If you're interested in that, get in touch with me ASAP. I might send you a formal invitation anyway, later this week, but why wait? :)

We are working for a long-term solution that will put an end to MSFT's exclusive distributorship with the PC makers such as Compaq, Dell, Gateway etc.. We are going to defend the fundamental right of consumers to choose any and all software that is installed on the brand new computers they buy. Obviously, we'd like them to be able to choose OS/2 with their new PCs-- so help us out, and you'll be helping the entire Warped community.

Don't wait another moment. Join us in Action Project #4, your Freedom of Choice project. Details as usual are at

http://pages.cthome.net/iact/iact-tell.html

in the `Connections` section of our website.

Mainly fixes problem with Cirrus Unite CD maker CD-ROM driver

CD2MP3 PM 1.12

1.12 - January 30, 1999
- Modified readcd to be CTCDROM.DMD compatible (This CD drive manager of Unite CD Maker doesn't want to read in the CODE segment, so I had to define local variables for the parameter)
- Was able to properly make the notebook context menu, thanks to Eric Norman (warped@cs.montana.edu)

CDTest

1.05 - January 30, 1999
- Modified readcd to be CTCDROM.DMD compatible (This CD drive manager of Unite CD Maker doesn't want to read in the CODE segment, so I had to define local variables for the parameter)
- Tracks are now read in order and can be tested multiple times in a row or not.
- Hopefully fixed most screwed up displays.

This has happened to me, and hopefully will not happen to you all. The story ...

If you have several partitions (or multiple drives) on your system, (with C: as WINDOWS 95/98) and you install ADAPTEC EZ SCSI 5.0, there will be a program assigning your "UNUSED??" partitions into drive letter(s).

The install program will ask you to format those "UNUSED??" partitions - by this time, you're already too late trying to save them.

"UNUSED??" partitions = HPFS partitions, unformatted partitions, LINUX partitions, etc.

My advice - DON'T INSTALL EZ SCSI 5 AT ALL. EZ SCSI 4 did not harm my system.

February 3, 1999 Source: yoursite.co.uk (hongling@btinternet.com)

It is with much regret that I have had to close down yoursite.co.uk and the OS/2 resources attached to our pages. (Including the Win32 Compatibility site).

We have had constant problems due to finances, as well as competitors causing dns interference. I am very sorry to have not been able to give notice to our users.

AWE for OS/2 will continue, as will our search tool and a number of other programs.

Please get in touch by return to hongling@btinternet.com if you would like to take any of the resources or get further information on any programs / projects.

On a final and happier note, we are looking to get in touch with all OS/2 professionals in the UK, especially contractors, as we have been asked by 2 of the major recruitment firms to source and train OS/2 staff for them as they have none on their books.

The Notebook/2 Site has had some important enhancements:

The information from the "Unofficial Thinkpad Site" (TP Warper Site) relating to OS/2 is currently being moved to and integrated into the Notebook/2 Site. This means easier access to this valuable resource: Thinkpad users do no longer need to visit 2 sites. Also other notebook users benefit, since there is a lot of info which is useful for everyone who is using a notebook, and some info even useful for desktop OS/2 users! The documents are accessible through the various "installation guides" and/or through the model descriptions.

Please let me know if you can contribute to any area of the Notebook/2 Site. It has become a valuable resource for many. I'll need your help to continue to improve it. Please send me installation reports via email (nb2@gmx.net) and configuration reports by using the forms on the Notebook/2 Site.

On hobbes incoming, there is a PM port of the ORL VNC viewer. This doesn't require X or Java. For an alpha, this thing seems to have amazing quality.

ftp://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming/pmvnc003.zip is the current location.

I just receive a survey request from CDS Inc (I own backagain/2 v4.00a upgraded to h or what ever is latest).

They are interested in finding out if we os/2 customers are interested in a major upgrade. If so, maybe maybe they will write one. Existing customers will be supported.

Found this bit of news on the OS/2 Users Discussion List:

Yesterday, I learned a startling bit of news. The appeal division of the Ontario Workers' Copmensation Board, now labouring under a new name, is replacing its DEC terminals with OS/2! Not NT, but OS/2, and training is supposed to start this coming week. Is the message getting through, that M$ is not the way to go?

A new OS/2 Homepage has been opened at

http://home.t-online.de/home/J.Scholtysik/index.htm

Currently it contains four freeware programs that are all programmed with Vispro/Rexx 3.1: A GUI for Bladeenc for OS/2, a GUI for Leech, an alarm program and a charmap program.

I'm always searching for new ideas to program. So if you have an idea, here's my email address:

MIDI Station Sequencer Version 1.5 Beta is now available!!!

MIDI Station Sequencer is the most advanced sequencer available for OS/2. It uses the Realtime MIDI Subsystem and now uses the SEAL API to handle digital audio. Some of the new features are:

The version says beta but its very, very solid and you'll find that the playback is smoother than ever. So take a look at it!!

For those of you who have had problems using this program in the past, specifically with IBM's MPU driver you should subscribe to Thetaband's Multimedia Package. They have an MPU driver that is compatible with most soundcards, yes even Creative Labs Soundblaster cards should work with their driver. Check it out at:

http://www.thetaband.com. You'll be glad you did.

You can download the beta version AND see some screenshots at the MIDI Station homepage:
