LBCSMix (a mixer for Crystal Semiconductor mode 2 codecs) was updated to version
0.03. The main window was re-designed to make it smaller.
LBPlay (a MIDI player with soft karaoke) was updated to version 0.05. The main
enhancements are ability to be used as an external MIDI player (e.g. TiMidity) front
end and MIDI file info window.

I have written a small script for Kali/2 which finds out the current IP and updates
the Kali.cfg accordingly. I would love to get some comments on it and determine

ISP List Grows
Thanks for the feedback on msql-list some ISP's have been added to the list of
ones that provide mSQL as part of their hosting services. I am lokking towards increasing
the list usefullness by getting info about other features provided by these ISP's
(such as Perl DBI, Java Servlets and so on).
Fixed lite.exe for Win32
As announced by Joshua Dinerstein:
A new version of the mSQL 2.0.4.1 lite.exe program is now available. Marshall
Lai was kind enough to work with me in finding and fixing a bug and now the patched
version is available from:

This fixes to main problems. 1- Opening files in the wrong mode, and 2- incorrectly
translating the return characters for Dos. As a result only 1 line programs would
work and even then only some of them.
Fixed msqladmin.exe for OS/2
The msqladmin binary included with the latest OS/2 port was from the wrong build.
Yuri made the correct binary available so you do not need to get all GNU tools needed

GUI admin for OS/2
Wolfgang Draxler Continues evolving his GUI mSQL Administrator for OS/2. The
latest release allows you not only to create, drop and rename databases, but also
to browse the database structure. The next release should provide also field and
index information.
You can download the beta from Wolgang's home page (his web page is in German,
but the software has both English and German as language options).

New Version Highlight :

*The "Traditional" Beep warning have been replaced, because the warning
beep is too easily disabled by setting the system sound's warning beep to Disabled
status... Now I use the OS/2 API DOSBeep to provide warning sound that is highly
unlikely to be disabled by other programs/settings. And while I'm at that, I also
give the program two distinct warning sound so you can tell either it is the temperature
or the fan's going wrong.
*Different Chip numbering scheme is in place, now I'm assigning chip numbers
to each chip myself, because different vendors with different chip numbers are making
it difficult for me to use their own chip/vendor number.
They are assigned in the following fashion:
1: Winbond W83781D.
2: Winbond W83782D (not quite sure if this is functional now).
99: Unknown Winbond Enviromental Monitor.
101: National Semiconductor LM78.
102: National Semiconductor LM78-J.
102: National Semiconductor LM79.
!The first temperature probe's warning sound was missed in the earlier versions,
now it is fixed.

If this program is giving you a Vendor ID but saying that it can't identify the
chip... please do the following...
*MAKE SURE you do have a enviromental monitoring chip of some kind.
*Check if the output from ThermoProtect is making sense or not (ie +5V entery showing
+8V is NOT making sense... :) )...
*Check your motherboard manual and record down the model and the make of the monitoring
chip.
*E-Mail me the data... :)

you via email when new drivers for your printer/OS are released. While the direct
benefit is that you will be informed when new OS/2 drivers are released, the indirect
benefit is that HP will know that there is a real demand for up to date OS/2 printer

Raven Software released the sourcecode of Hexen and Heretic, they hope to get
ports to Linux and Be soon and I think we really need an OS/2 version of the games.
I know that there is sourcecode available for several games, unfortunately there
are just a few OS/2 ports available (remember Descent...). If there are ANY OS/2
programmers out there interested, let me know, I can easily start a new project
at OS/2 Netlabs, we have http, ftp, and soon CVS access! (mail to ktk@netlabs.org)
(BTW: Maybe the "author" of Quake I for OS/2 can support us too ;-)
I really hope to get SciTech MGL for OS/2 soon, with this tool it should not
be too hard to port it to OS/2!?

The petition against Microsoft for anticompetitive behaviour filed with the Italian
antitrust by IACT Italia - the independent association of Italian supporters of
the International Alliance for Compatible Technology established by a group of Italian
OS/2 users - has obtained its first results.
In particular, it has been possible to have the same authority, the Autorita'
Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato, send the Italian Ministry of Finance a
demand to cease and desist from compelling users to adopt Windows applications developed
by the Land and Estate Registry in order to collect and deliver relevant data for
fiscal purposes. The Italian antitrust found that the diffusion of such applications
was discriminatory against users of other operating systems, such as OS/2 or Linux,
not to mention users of non-compatible hardware such as Apple Macintosh.
Carlo Piana of Studio Legale Sutti, counsel for IACT Italia in the abovementioned
antitrust petition - which is now pending with the authority under the no. A/264
- has declared:
"This result is especially important, since it prevents the Italian public agencies from endorsing in the future a Microsoft-only policy, which would leave other platforms' users and producers out in the cold. The Italian antitrust authority has shared our view on the need to order all public agencies to conform to open, non-proprietary standards, thus refraining from reinforcing the monopolistic policies denounced in IACT Italia's petition".

Platon Fomichev successfuly ported Squid 2.1 to OS/2. Currently it can be downloaded

Squid is well-known free proxy server, aviable for many platforms. We will try

Regarding the announcement just posted on the refreshed Novell OS/2 Netware 2.12
client - the file you really want to announce is OS2PT2.EXE, at the same URL (http://support.novell.com/products/os2nc212/patches.htm).
As far as I can tell, Novell does not incorporate fixes into the base client
releases... they issue them as updates to the base, and this one has a lot of files
updated from the last patch file (OS2PT1.EXE).
